Thread: When damaged lowered by 66%, HAM can increase by 300%.. that doesn't sound fair

Following on from the post where I've identified nice solid rules for making CL10 tanks with some impressive HAMs I have to say something feels a little off here. Ok, so it's not the kind of blatantly overpowered 9k of HAM pets with 100 points of damage which were clearly a unbalanced bug but the fact is something about a non-ch having a tank which can potentially have 3500-4000 for all pools if a very skilled bioengineer works on it simply sounds a bit much. Now 2000 HAM I could agree with since thats double what you see for the wild mobs with a CL10 rating but around x4 is heavy.

Fair enough, the damage per second for these clones is pittiful. A trade off between tanking and damage dealing will always exist but when you consider that dropping around 100 point of damage allows you to have around 2000 more HAM that simply doesn't seem right. At the high end you tend to see a far lower bonus where you trade damage for HAM. If the system was being consitant we'd all be seeing 14k CL70 critters which cause 400 points of damage. But you don't see that at all. Now I'm not going to scream nerf here, this isn't so majorly imbalanced that its wrong but the fact is the usefulness of a 3.5k HAM pet is greater than the pets we saw before this system appeared.

Share your thoughts please.

/disagree strongly

a 4k HAM pet that has a 2.5 attack speed, 25% to hit, and deals out a whopping 30-40 damage is not overbalanced at all in my opinion. It's just right. It allows a Non-CH (who either can't find a hunting party to join or else prefers to solo) to have a nice little meatshield to use.

Frankly Tal-N, the only reason 90% of Bio-engineers will ever be able to make pets as good as the one you did is because you told them how to in your other post. You basically gave anyone who will read it a cake recipe that will allow them to forego the diligent research that you had to do. I think it was generous of you to do this, even if it's a little like the Colonel giving away the 11 secret herbs and spices for free...but it's your recipe to give away.

Simply put, the BE system has always had a "hidden" system for calculating clone results from DNA.It will always have an algorithm for computing this (liner equation, curve, look up table, whatever). Isay hidden because, unlike other professions, we have no crafting documentation (e.g., Power = 33% PE 66% OQ). Isee it as my job and obligation to push the aboslute limits of this algorithmand squeeze out every last drop of HAM, resistances, special attacks, etc. for my customers. If they change the algorithm again, I'll go back to the drawing board and figure it out again. Rinse and repeat. This is what separates the exceptional pets from the average.

Bottom line: We don't make the forumla, the developers do. We just use it to maximum advantage.

Look at Tal-N's "perfect 10" post of a few moments ago. If it were any easier, he'd come over to your house and do it for you.

Just because the devs designed it doesn't mean it's balanced right away.

There is no right and wrong here (until the devs decide there is anyway)cause we're dealing with what could be seen as a fair trade off. CL1 damage and what is around a CL20 HAM, even with such abstract comparasons you could say they would create something smackbang in the middle at CL10. Thats why I question if perhaps they're too usefull, not that they're overpowered in the usual sense.

When i was an up and coming BE/TK i used a 3k HAM BE kahmurra CL15, and it helps, but thats it, it doesnt do missions for me, like say a 8k HAM 200 damage CL10 nerfed pet, would have

I think u have hit on a good recipe, with a damage of 30 and a 4,3,2k HAM how long would that pet last vs a high DL mob? not long, but long enough for his master maybe to escape to a safer location. (whats wrong with that?)

IMHO these nonCH are as close to the max CL10 as u can get, there not gonna change the balance in the game, unlike the uber NonCH would have done

again

I have to agree with Tal-N that the current system does not seem to fit with the devs stated purpose of reducing creatures stats across the board and of reducing non-CH to CL10 pets because they felt CL15 pets were too powerful for them. These were both aims of the recent publish openly stated by the devs and really not open for arguement.

Now, the only possible arguement in favor of 4k HAM CL10 pets is that these are not more powerful than pre-nerf CL15s. It is quite clear that in tanking terms they are at least as strong. It is also quite clear that people that use non-CH pets couldn't care less if they did zero damage. Personally I have been told thatnumerous times. The only measure of note for non-CH pets (when stats matter at all) is how well they can tank. Even post-change new BE CL10 pets are better tanks than pre-nerf CL15s and that goes against the stated aims of the devs in recent patches.

well I disagree with the above post these pets are not more usefull tanks and pre nerf rock beetles AR1 sucker could hold 4 squills back for 5 mins.

I tend to think of it this way, money in the bank for a BE that can pull it off and sell them. Nothing wrong with that?

lol im a master doc I buf mine to 6-7k ham in groups now thats funny

I've got to agree with Tal-N as well.

Non-CHs don't care one bit about how much damage their pet does, they want a "meat wall" to soak up hits and keep them alive. If anything, I think they'd pay more for a pet that doesn't do any damage at all because then it won't be stealing XP from them!

The main purpose of a pet like this is to hold the attention of a creature for as long as possible, while the pet's owner does all the damage. If the pet does any damage at all, it doesn't really matter. People want pets to just keep things off of themselves.

I don't think the Devs intended for non-ch pets to tank. Meaning, that I'm sure they don't want them to hold things off for long or to do much damage. My guess is that this pet is unbalanced a small bit if its able to hold something off its owner for any length of time.

Meroc, there's every chance that it won't be nerf'd this time. However if there are people in the community looking at these pets with a raised eyebrow then you're probably seeing the devs doing the same thing. This is however a very borderline issue which is why I'm going to keep making them as they seem a little bit too much but not to the extent of being radically unbalanced.

Hopefully the devs much anticipated combat changes (CH/CL overhall was stage one, three more stages to come?)will address issues such as this.

Like plenty of other people have stated, HAM and kinetic is pretty much all that matters to most players, damage is irrelevant. This makes a mockery of the CL system as present, not just with BE pets but wild ones as well eg. 2 x CL25 boar wolves (9k HAMS + 50 kin) basically gives you 27k HAM for PvE. Compare this to CL50 wild pets eg a Blurg with only slightly larger HAMs, AR1 and 20% kin =far worse in majority of PvE situations than the boar wolf combo.

The problemis made even worse with good BE pets.
