Thread: New BEs: What to do with the pets you make

This will also work for the up and coming Nov BE. Rather than toss aside the pets you make, give them away. If you don't have CH, try to hook-up with a Nov CH who can go with you and tame/train for you. You both get experience and help some new players, possibly making new friends.

This is also a great way to destroy the creature market for those novice BE's that are actually trying to make money off the profession. Its no different than giving away schematics for chef and tailor tissues.
If you are just going to give away animals for free why not resample them? Sample yard trash and make gnorts, resample those gnorts for the xp and make more gnorts. At least you get something for your trouble instead of giving away resources and time while hurting the market for other BE's.
Money is so easy to come by in this game, even for a noob fresh off the shuttle. A BE has to come up with an insane amount of meat. Let those novices make a few bucks so they can buy some of the meat they need.

an insane amount of meat... hmmm I have to let that soak in.
This is not so much of a concern if you are not grinding. you can get the meat you need as you go along at a normal pace. By the time you master BE you will have gone through a lot of meat, but by no means do you NEED 250k of meat when you start off BE, again, unless you're grinding. I have no pity for grinders I guess, so shoot me.

There used to be a guy here on this forum who would always boast about giving away good (non-yard trash) pets to strangers (and then there's the guy who advertised yesterday he was selling +85 bsn for 17k on my server... but I digress), and I and others always resented that. But I think this is a little different. The reality is that CH's are always going to be offering free "junk pets" (I see them all the time at the starport spamming about that) and when you stop to think about it, it's probably a net benefit to BE's because it introduces people to them, and gets them hooked on pet stims and wanting "real" pets.
It's really no different with anything else. I still recall as a noob when someone offered me a free low-end gun that did like twice the damage of my cdef and I was so thrilled to get it, lol. That was my most prized possession for like a week, lol. Then more recently I created a new toon on another server and almost immediately got offered free bone armor, low-end guns, and stuff like that. I guess I can see the distinction between someone offering valuable products for nothing in a misguided attempt to be "nice"and somebody offering nearly worthless, but useful, products to somebody new.
Ok, I'm testimony to giving away pets for future business. When I was a young BE, I put yard trash on the bazaar for cheap. most were darn usable pets, and I gave many away. I wanted my name on them and i wanted a LOT of them out there. Eventually by the time I got halfway through BE I was getting orders I wasn't ready to fill yet. Then I put up a vendor and sold much better pets at 1k per level flat price. I made millions. By the time I was master I had more orders than I could fill and my vendor was always running low. Still I kept my 1k per pet price, with special uber rush orders a bit more. Eventually, I was being offered crystals and other gear in trade for my pets cause I simply didn't need the money and didn;t want to let go of some of them.
Bottom line? It pays off later to get your name on pets, and the good will you show to someone will eventually return if you are dilligent and patient.
Also, I did not run anyone out of business because I met too many master BE's who also made killings with totally different marketing strategies. The world is a lot bigger than most think.

Really weak stuff I don't train.. I sell em on the bazaar as decoration (or I've done "zoo collections" for people). (Pets haveing around 65-300 HAM)
Moderately good stuff I do two things (300-1000 HAM) - I either stick them in the bank to make a mount out of them later or I sell em on bazaar.
Good stuff (1500+ HAM) I sell on bazaar or I use em as a pet to get some xp.
Mind you I just found out today I can resample them for DNA so I might start doing that hehe
Even at novice you can sample fairly high level animals (Voritor dashers are my favorite. At sampling 1 I still only get average quality samples though... -_-)
