Thread: On Mounts.
So..... WHEN?!
We've been hearing about all this for what seems like ages now.
WHEN?!

I've talked to Keldarin about our concerns with mounts. This was in no way meant to be a slight to BE's.
I'm not sure what to think here. I never thought it was ever intentional, but the fact remains, they still hosed us in this matter. And it wasnt like no one was able to predict it, heck they put in lower CL mounts for CH to tame for that specific reason. So they saw that there was a need for a change in the game, I want to know WHY a corresponding change wasnt implemented in the mean time while we wait for our clone fixes and WHEN we are going to see the clone fixes.

Look I really want to get those clone fixes but with respect to mounts its to little to late. By the time we can make these "better" pets the market will be glutted. Most people will already have one or more pets and we already have a problem that no one wants to buy our mounts because they are not rideable day 1. Who is going want to upgrade to a slightly better mount when they have to use up datapad room to do it and once again its not available on day one. As a mount goes the already small difference will be negligable. Sure it has 5% higher HAM, but your probably not using your mount to fight. All that matters is speed and I;m guessing they won't be any faster. Now if you can let us experiment up the run speed of the mount and have it as a displayable attribute on the deed, then your talking. Till then getting the clone fix won't change the fact that BE is once again being beaten at its own game by a combat class that should be its main customer.

Well said Mirrl
Once again, fixes promised sometime in then indeterminate future...

Yeah, we've heard all of this before twice over now... mind telling me how the hell we're supposed to feel better when by the time we get this mythical cloning system (that'd have better be flawless from the start considering how long it's taking) then everyone will have mounts supplied to them already. Unless there is going to be some kind of decay for mounts which isn't related to combat then once someone has a mount they have very little reason to buy a bio-engineered one.People don't use them for combat, they use them to get from point A to point B faster.
Also because of that fact vehicles are going to make mounts obsolete and because of this exceptionally long time it's taking to get the new system the bio-engineered mounts won't matter cause people will want swoops and landspeeders.
when changes for the creature handler class go in prior to rebalancing wild creatures and bioengineering changes go in after that is very clearly an intentional slight. by the time the changes are in the market will be saturated and at that point it makes little difference.
"Once this happens, our mounts will be able to be engineered better than wildones and we will see a decline in the availability of the wild low level mounts."
are you saying that we will be able to influence run speed? or is this the 'bioengineered kaadu have 100 more ham so they are much more desireable' line.
So the question is still unanswered.
But I now have a new one.
When vehicles come out are free vehicles going to spawn in front of the stores of the artisan class that crafts them? Because that's what they did to us, really the only person we can really sell a mount to is a CH with Empathy 4 (unless we have it), and I've already since the patch wiped out 3 plodding falump nests within sight of my house. I wipe them out whenever I see them.
So they can't (or won't) tell us when the cloning fixes will be in. Whatever.
Can they tell us whether the cloning fixes will be in before, after, or at the same time as vehicles? This is an issue of prioritization, and every development team worth the office space it occupies should be able to tell you its priorities (they may not choose to, but they should be able to).
Because once vehicles exist, no one will want a mount.
I hope they choose to have DE's craft the vehicles, and I don't begrudge them that. They've suffered as long as we have and deserve to be fixed as well. But DE's would also be well served if, for example, you could rename droids with the @$%#@$#$%$ surgical droid chasis, or if probots were as useful as non-CH pets, or if there was a reason to build any chasis more complicated than a mouse droid (I bought an R5 chasis for my crafting station, thankyouverymuch - mouse droids annoy me) or if the binary load lifter could actually lift a load (or do anything else besides stomp around town).
So all I'm looking for is an idea of where we stand. This will tell us something about how SOE perceives this game - is it more important to them that the stuff that shipped on day one actually work, or would they rather leave everything that exists in a horribly broken state so they can add new stuff instead? (and no, I'm not just talking about BE - my combat class is Pikeman - you can read into that whatever you want)
Thanks.

The only thing I would disagree with here is that BE pets that can be mounts dont sell right now. I've sold a boat load! The main reason is that the CHs couldnt get their hands on the new 'non-CH' mounts any quicker than we could make pets (so they still have to wait for them to grow), and its far easier for a master CH (who doesnt need the xp) to just buy BE pets to grow and sell (since he doesnt have to run around the countryside looking for babies), BE pets also dont fill up the CH datapad limit thus allowing the CH to sell constantly a pet at a time and get the customer to come back in a few days for the mount training
I've sold approx 20 Dewback and 10 Kaduu (which is all my BE supplier can make right now) since Thursday most of which have been purchased by the same CH.
Having said all that, I'll agree completely that the cloning changes should have gone live at the same time, and that I'd expect the vehicle introduction to put a hole in mount sales a mile wide (however the development web page now implies that vehicles will be on NPC vendors thus allows the devs to control the prices)
I am with ASHRID on this. I supplied most of my guild with mounts on day one, and the master CH we had supplied the rest. Granted his were grown and could be used right away, but mine grew and are all in use now. I will, however, also hop on the band wagon that the clone fixes are WAY overdue and NEED to be addressed SOON. But in my mind the clone issue needs fixing more for the other broken and useless clones we make than for mounts. Mounts are going to more obsolete than we are in no time because when vehicles go live no one will want mounts. That means we will be back to trying to sell pets for combat. If we have bigger badder pets than CH's can catch then cool. If not we are screwed...again/still.
It also is my experience that the most useful thing we can make at the moment are pet stims. I can't seem to keep enough of these on hand for the demand. With the need for pet stim packs that are needed for non-medical types to keep their mounts and petsalive and we have a pretty good looking cash cow if you ask me.Make the best out of what we do have that is useful and wait for the rest to be fixed. Just think of it as an excersie in patience. Of course I will also admit that I am new to the profession and have not had to be as patient as long as all of you have. Hang in there guys, I think they'll get to us. At least I hope they do. (attention DEV's, please don't make me look like an ass here OK? Fix this stuff so that the few of us that still support you don't loose ALL credibility.)
