Thread: slow pet turn around/decay.....my recommendations

although my idea would be somewhat hated by the ch's out there, i fear its needed because we have little/ no turn around for our pet industry.

i understand the reasoning in the item decay now, it was to create a constant need for crafted items, instead of buying once and never coming back once those items were damaged beyond repair. But we are the only profession, besides DE's, that do not reap the benefits of this part of the economy. Pets dont die, they hardy get any maligant damage that cant be repaired. Speaking as someone who has mastered the CH profession, I never had to get a new pet due to it becoming worthless, or broke; such as damaged/decayed armor or weapons.

Theonly fix, I see, that can be made to include us into this part of the economy, is to introduce pet death, or raise the vitality loss significantly. Maybe a loss of 2% unrepairable vitality in case of a incapacitation.

just my 2 cents...

the demand isnt over the supply. why whould it be if they can come get pets from us once, and never have to return? or better yet, go tame their own in the wild.

ive made a lot of cash from selling pets, but that still doesnt mean we dont deserve to be involved in the same type of market as the rest of the crafters with decayable/consumable items.

If you want to deal in disposable pets then go ahead - there's plenty of market for trash pets to be tamed, trained and destroyed.
There is also a greater demand for BE pets than there is supply as shown by daily requests on this forum and from feedback from my customers who all have a rough time finding one to do a custom order for them.
I have more customers than I can serve, demand is greater than supply.
We do not need pets to decay faster than their normal dropping vitality levels.

Im sorry but your reasoning is flawed. Weither or not i make good pets or garbage, is irrelvant. Wecraft items that do not decay, unlike the rest of the items in this economy. So what youre saying is, if there isa constant need for something, no need to decay it?

If im not mistaken, there is a overwhelming demand for weapons and armor everyday, but they added decay to those items-demand is greater than supply there as well....so what is the difference in our products?

and as for making trash pets goes, ive got plenty of ss's of my cl 70 pets and under id be willing to bet that make your's look like garbage. ( you made it personal, not me)

I did not make this discussion 'personal', obviously you are not familiar with common BE terminology - 'trash pets' does not refer to the quality or skill of the bioengineer, they are created out of low level creatures that are easy to fina and sample, then sold in large quanitities to novice CH's who want to tame the animals, train them in every command they can then destroy them - in this way they can grind their CH XP without having to fight with their pets and progress naturally through the profession.

As for the constant demand for items such as weapons and armour, there is a constant demand because there is decay.

Particularly with armour - if there was no decay then you would buy your 1 set of uber 90% Sliced Krayted composite and then you would never need to buy armour again.
Because of the lack of influx of new players armoursmith's would have very few customers.
Armour is not profession resticted so it would be a one off purchase that would serve you for your entire game life.
This is why they added decay - so armoursmiths get repeat custom.

How you can say my argument is flawed defies logic...

If demand is greater than supply then increasing the demand will only lead to a 'highest bidder' situation which will alienate new players and send this game the same way as EQ where the only way to get anywhere as a new character is to spend your RL money on items, money and powerlevelling.

Well - they do decay - eventually. Yeah, it's not likely to happen to the average player in their lifetime ingame.

I have seen sales slip, but the new models helped a lot. Lots of my customers are just looking for new or different pets. I don't look at pets as my primary inventory - my pet food and meds are the renewable consumables.

One problem with more rapid decay is the week to grow it issue. My gun wears out - I go buy another and I don't have to wait a week to use it, not true with a pet.

Plus you have to find a CH to train it. There are few CH's left as it is because of all the Nerfs. If you do not buy from CH/MBE it is extremely difficult to find a CH that is has a slot available and is will to drop what he is doing to train the pet for you. If you keep calling for Nerfs that benefit you profession at the cost of the CH profession, you better start grinding CH to train your own pets. I have run into quite a number of CH's that just respond "Sorry, I do not tame BE pets." That is why I do not buy off a vendor if the BE/CH is not around to train it.

Hmmm my pets decay quite rapidly when i fight. If you fail to heal them when incap they go down. As a BE/CH i make a new pet ever couple of weeks. The stats on decayed pets do go down. Plus my business is great because each CH wants something different in a pet. Some want high resist some want high ham some want combo of both. I can barely keep up with the orders my guild asks for let alone try and keep a decent amount on my vendor. I do not make tissues food stims or anything else. I sell pets alone and make quite a living off of it. So no there is no need to nerf pets even harder.

I disagree thatwe need 'pet decay' I have enough trouble keeping up with pet orders and stocking vendors as it is.
I'm sure things will settle down a little when the hologrinders are gone but so far only 1 of my customers has been hologrinding.
I dont think there are many well known BE that have a problem selling pets and most have to turn their tag off because of all the tells you get at starports

this isnt an issue about how much im selling, its about the fact that what we make does not decay. therefore, no constant need, except when someone decides to pick up the ch tree.

It is very much about how much we're selling - if demand outweighs supply already there is no need to increase the demand

Being a CH myself I can tell you I have never had a pet decay to date. I have most of my inventory full of BE pets made by my alt. I am able to rotate them out during a nights period of gameplay and never have any incapped. When I come back the next day, all healed

I will tell you from my experience with BE that you shouldn't spend too much time worrying about the decay of pets. Tissues, stims and supplements are by far where you make your money in this profession. I don't see pet decay being a big enough issue for the Devs to use in time on at this point. IMHO there are many other areas that there time would be better spent that this.
