Thread: Where have all the Custom Pets gone?
How can you be sure that if you do spend the points in BE you will know any more what you're doing than they do?

No, that is not the problem. I have contacted a good 25 BE's on bloodfin and either they are not making custom pets anymore and only do clothes or they know less than I do. I'm fully aware of the nerfs we have been put through. I had 2 very nice cats made a month ago AFTER the big nerfs that destroyed pets. I have gone to so many different BE shops its ridiculous and they are either totally EMPTY or have 1 or 2 pets that are no higher than CL30.
a month ago the shops had tons of pets to choose from, and the BE's that I had in my friends list that I knew were decent either never get online anymore or they quit BE.
If you know of a decent BE on bloodfin speak up. My other questions about how long does it take to raise BE still stands.
Ther reason why you dont find much above CL 30 is that from a BE pet perspective, theres not a lot to gain by going much higher than that and in terms of getting the required DNA - the risks far outweigh the gains in many ways.
If you can get 60% Kinetic and energy with AR1 with decent ham below CL 40 why bother with a massive 30 CL leap to get a few extra resists and few k extra HAM? I know I certainly wouldnt bother for vendor stuff.
Thats exactly what my cats are. ar1, 60% kinetic, cl30/36.
The problem is I need a few different types of pets for different purposes. I also have 2 friends that need pets. My problem is I cant even find a BE who can have a conversation about it. Whats good for this, whats good for that. ect. Even the CL30's I find on these vendors are no where near as good as my cats. Which I know we have not been nerfed in a way that would change what you can make since I got my cats. You CAN make these exact cats right now.
I have been watching the recipies posts in this forum and have seen some really good setups. I would just like to find a decent BE on bloodfin to have a conversation about it.
For pricing I use BE Calc to calculate my prices. Period. Why? Because it is consistent, and the pricing scheme makes sense and seems fair to me. Plus, you have the capability of pasting exactly how you got the numbers quickly and easily into the seller's comments. I also give credit where credit is due and always leave the BE Calc plug in the comments. BUT for a custom pet I can't do that. I would charge more. And then we get back to dickering again.
And... too bad you aren't on Kettemoor. I have a matched set of Graul CL37 / CL33 AR1, High HAM, Kinetic and Energy resists and I think only vulnerable to stun. I am still debating whether I will use myself or put them up for sale.
I rarely do custom orders anymore. I refer the client to my vendor and make the stipulation that I will *consider* a custom order if they do not find something they love on my vendor. I have yet to have anyone ask me for a custom order after looking at my vendor. They find something they love, they buy it and they /tell me how pleased they are. That's my objective. To make a hellova pet that my client will absolutely fall in love with.
I agree with Nancy, there isn't much reason to make a pet over CL30-35. First of all I refuse to make big pets. Who wants to fight when you can't see what you are doing or what the mob you are attacking is doing. They're also more of a hinderance then a help inside of caves and dungeons. Ever try to do the Warren with two Rancors in the group?
Most of the pets I make a Kimas and Bearded Jax'. They're nice because I can get a good 8k HAM, 50% kinetic, 240-300 damage, w/ Dizzy/Knockdown at around CL28-29. Most CH like these because they're not blocking view and with two of them out they can handle most stuff in the game.
It's amazing what you learn about making pets when you DNA sample everything out there (trying to work on figuring out the formula) instead of sticking with the 5 or 6creatures that everyone here tells BEs to use. Personally I can make a better pet without using Enraged Rancor/Queen spider, etc DNA with MUCH less risk to myself. Last night alone I was able to get 30 DNA samples from a creature that will probably yield some very awesome pets.
Anyway...
