For as much as people complain about SWG, I think this points to one of the great things about the game....you'll find a class that tickles your fancy, whether it's combat or crafting. You can enter "god mode" with the flavor of the month (hopefully we'll see less of this with ongoing fixes) or you can try something quirky just for fun. You can have a class requiring no thought or one that makes yer brain hurt more than your full time job.

Pretty cool, IMHO.

As a programmer, chemist and computer scientist, and 100% Bartle Explorer, I love playing with numbers. Not all the time, but as an occassional puzzle it is great.

How often can you prove with solid numbers that a game system is giving you incorrect information? That's a pretty awesome feeling to be able to point at it, replicate my results and say, "Here, this is what is really going on".

Maybe your wife is the strange one. Why wouldn't anyone like playing with numbers?

(Hehehe. No real offense to the wife. To each their own. )

Yes, I did 2 holos, BH and 2H swords. My third holo was combat medic. I got as far as master medic and realized I need to have fun so I picked up BE, dropped medic like a stone and now I'm master BE and happier than I have ever been. Who says playin hookey is bad?

OK, since we're all listing our credentials....

As a high school mathematics and computer programming teacher with a degree in statistics, I'm really enjoying being a BE, and for pretty much the same reasons all of you other programmer-types are. I got to break out my statistics textbooks from college and put together multivariate regression models for my first time in seven years (Although I am a little annoyed that I spent four years getting a degree in a subject I don't use in RL only to beat Seiryuu by a couple of days on the 20/30/50 ratio. OK...Maybe I'm a littleimpressed too). I've also got the sales, suppliers, pricing and research spreadsheets for sure! And, when I get an itchy trigger finger, I head over to Shadowfire. Funny thing- my Shadowfire character is a ranger/rifleman. I think I do that because I know how the hardest part of my BE job is obtaining large quantities of high quality meat. In all honesty, I'm a little sorry that the tissue results are as simple as 20/30/50 with weights according to the number of units of each resource. That was a little simplistic. I really would have enjoyed some interaction effects or something. BUT, that's what cloning is for I guess. The amount of data I have collected for cloning made me sick, and I hardly got anywhere. I'm actually thinking about getting another computer because the continuous alt-tabbing to write down every freakin' stat on a dna sample was driving me nuts.

I'm an Artificial Intelligence programmer in RL and used to be an Electronics Engineer. I found BE as a profession and thought it looked interesting quite a while back, but I found all the math we have to do time consuming so I started to write spreadsheets for everything.

I now have spreadsheets for calculating BSN quality, pricing full runs, pricing and costing all my Tailor Tissues, etc.

She says we're all weird and can't understand "why anyone would want to do that much calculating and mathematics in a game".

Perhapsshe has a point - but I enjoy it. Busman's Holiday maybe?

I keep a calculator right beside me at all times while playing. I just get a huge kick out of saying to a customer "just a second while I crunch the numbers" then really doing it. I really really love being a BE and I love how I have to truly think to be good at it. I guess it feeds my mind

LOL I keep my Ti-83+ Silver Edition right by my comp.. it has all my spreadsheets in there (hehe, my calculartor has exel.. man is this sounding more nerdy that expected)

Yeah.. you have to think as a BE.. sometimes too much, but whats a little headache for a few credits, huh?

I have a degree in Theology, and the day I mastered BE I started up my huge Excel Spread sheet that barley fits on legal when printed to figure out why pets come out the way they do.

I think we are all a little nuts, but without us, BE's would all be like Merchants... alternate accounts...lol.

I moved to Corellia I have no vendor and I don't know the coords to my house, but it doesn't really matter cause all my pets are in the tool box, I may have some in space, but that doesn't really concern you either.

Dang..this is like going to a gun fight with a knife..lol, Im a dog trainer, no degrees, just a couple years of college before my money ran out.

I may not be an brainiac like some of you guys..but Ive managed and loved the BE profession too. No, I dont steal recipes, I go out and sample and developemy own recipes and have a few that Im proud of.

But somehow after reading some of your Bio's, I tend to feel alittle overmatched..

Atleast we have you professors and engineers to keep feeding us data. It really makes reading our forum enjoyable and informative.

Keep up the good work you geeks!

Hey, man, Seiryuu ran what looked like 6 runs of BSNs before cracking the 20/30/50 ratio. I ran about 60 and generated a multivariate linear regression model in order to crack it. Don't underestimate simple pattern recognition and don't overestimate detailed research!

Im 17 years old so I have no degrees, got an A in Maths at GCSE and I'm doing Computer Science (as well philos/psych/law) at college. I'm planning to do Information Product Design as a degree, but nothing is set in stone atm.

I originally did BE as a holo, but then dropped it, had a break and then came back to it because I realised it was the only thing that I actually enjoyed (i've done about 15 profs now). I've made a lot of spreadsheets in the passed for other games or RL hobbies. I think BE is a totally unique profession in the game because there is no other that compares to its crafting or versatility - at least with the pet side of things anyway.

Hi!

I didn't finish high school, math was by far my worst subject at the time, and still is lol. This is an absoloutely mind boggling profession, i picked it simply because when i started this game not more than 2 months ago a Bio-Engineer was needed in our group. I have mastered BE (along with Master Carbineer) and i'm coming to the conclusion that i can not handle it. I have really enjoyed experimenting with pets and making my own creations, some of which i'm pretty proud of, but all of this number crunching when it comes to making chef additives and the like is making me cry. I won't be getting much business being that i can't yet take any orders, not to mention that i don't even understand what half of the things arei am able to make. I don't think BE was a wise first profession for someone who can still occasionally be found counting on his fingers, with both hands.

To some small degree i envy you all.

Anyway, i'm gunna keep on trying to figure out what i'm doing and see if i can't do it better...contrary to what you may have read (high school), i don't like to just up and quit when things look bleak.
