Thread: Viability of Mounts
I agree there is a market for mounts currently...
As mentioned above, the 'trash' mounts are great for newbies.
However, that's really not what I have in mind...
Currently there are two types of people who buy mounts: The newbie who needs something faster than walking but can't afford a vehicle, and the veteran creature handler who will buy pets because they're pets but would like to mount them for RP purposes on occasion (or just kewl decoration).
This just isn't enough...
As for the above mentioned hint that the devs may have suggested plans to raise the speed of mounts to increase their usability - this should be done carefully.
I don't want to see a lightning fast bantha or brackaset.
If they want to give us fast mounts - give us fast creatures to mount.
Been there
Argued that
They don't care to reply.
Are mounts a viable source of anything?Yes, they look good and some people like to use them whilst hanging around the bank or spamming their advertisements in front of the star port.
Do people actually use mounts for transportation?Very rarely! They go much, much slower than vehicles and are not much less expensive (depending on the quality).
I sell all non-ch creatures for 15k on Wanderhome. They’re quality pets and people use them for fighting.Whether or not it is a mountable creature doesn’t matter to me because it costs no more to make it, and it usually doesn’t matter to the buyer, either. All people care about when it comes to creatures now is how fast they go.
People buy cats because they can almost keep pace with a speederbike.
There are a few suggestions floating around to keep mounts as a useful part of the game.
I don’t see these as being overpowering for anyone, as they can be enjoyed by all.
- Make mounts able to attack while someone’s riding it.
- Make some cats mountable
Yes, that’s what I said…
Why is it so ridiculous to think we could ride a large cat?It wouldn’t work with the current animation for riding a mount. However, if the harness were put on in a way that it could be mounted like a bike, with the player avatar raised slightly above the creature’s back, this would look very realistic (as far as SWG goes) and above all: Provide a FAST creature mount!A cat runs at a speed that could be matched to a landspeeder.I don’t think that this is too much to ask.
As for my first comment…I don’t see why some of these creatures can’t attack while someone’s riding them. After all, the combat animation for some of these creatures is almost null. They just stand there twitching slightly while numbers pop out of your foe’s back. The occasional creature makes a little jump when attacking, but that’s nothing… Mounts are large and strong. They can handle it.We’re not going to fall off Devs – they’re not spinning around. We can stay on.This will benefit everyone who has a mount.
What does this do in the end for BEs?Increase sales!!Increase fun factor!!
I’m going to post this in the CH board as well.
Hopefully we can get some constructive discussion going on here.
I realize this has likely been mentioned in the past. However, I think it’s time to take a second look at these features.
