Thread: Viability of Mounts

I always wanted to have a cat as a mount. When I heard what professions there where in this game before launchI decided to go Rifleman/CH cause it sounded wicked cool. CH was awesome at launch but I never got to have 3 rancors cause I was sooo slow at getting xp lol. Slowly they destroyed CH to the point where its just like having A lower damage TKM sitting there taking hits for you. Definitely think GSP should be mountable. Give us something devs....come on.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't there a post by a dev recently (like around E3 time period) that said they were going to increase the speed of mounts so they are more of a choice vs. vehicles?

Mounts sell well if you target them right - yard trash made mounts are perfect for newbs - sample the crap around your shop, experiment physique to max and bung the template in a mount skin and you've got a cheap mount for a newb who needs to get around. Easily affordable with their starting cash at 5k each and cost a lot less to maintain than a vehicle.

I agree there is a market for mounts currently...

As mentioned above, the 'trash' mounts are great for newbies.

However, that's really not what I have in mind...

Currently there are two types of people who buy mounts: The newbie who needs something faster than walking but can't afford a vehicle, and the veteran creature handler who will buy pets because they're pets but would like to mount them for RP purposes on occasion (or just kewl decoration).

This just isn't enough...

As for the above mentioned hint that the devs may have suggested plans to raise the speed of mounts to increase their usability - this should be done carefully.

I don't want to see a lightning fast bantha or brackaset.

If they want to give us fast mounts - give us fast creatures to mount.

I agree there is a market for mounts. I get at least one tell each time I run through a starport asking for one, just because of my MBE title. Besides the cool-factor, mounts are much cheaper to maintain (who knows how much I've put into my bikes), and can help you out of a tight spot now and then... can't say my bike will fight for me.

The bike may not fight for you but it gets you away so fast that there's no need for violence.

When I'm on Dathomir sampling the old Mutants and run into trouble, it isn't my trusty Cu Pa that Ieap toward to get me out of trouble, it's my swoop!

Personally I believe that the cupa's would sell much better if we could get a blue-white color for them.. Tontons anyone?

its more than that, we come up with newthreads which deal with major CH problems so fast, that other threadsoften get lost in the dust, never to be heard from again.

Are mounts a viable source of anything?Yes, they look good and some people like to use them whilst hanging around the bank or spamming their advertisements in front of the star port.

Do people actually use mounts for transportation?Very rarely! They go much, much slower than vehicles and are not much less expensive (depending on the quality).

I sell all non-ch creatures for 15k on Wanderhome. They’re quality pets and people use them for fighting.Whether or not it is a mountable creature doesn’t matter to me because it costs no more to make it, and it usually doesn’t matter to the buyer, either. All people care about when it comes to creatures now is how fast they go.

People buy cats because they can almost keep pace with a speederbike.

There are a few suggestions floating around to keep mounts as a useful part of the game.

I don’t see these as being overpowering for anyone, as they can be enjoyed by all.

  1. Make mounts able to attack while someone’s riding it.

  2. Make some cats mountable

Yes, that’s what I said…

Why is it so ridiculous to think we could ride a large cat?It wouldn’t work with the current animation for riding a mount. However, if the harness were put on in a way that it could be mounted like a bike, with the player avatar raised slightly above the creature’s back, this would look very realistic (as far as SWG goes) and above all: Provide a FAST creature mount!A cat runs at a speed that could be matched to a landspeeder.I don’t think that this is too much to ask.

As for my first comment…I don’t see why some of these creatures can’t attack while someone’s riding them. After all, the combat animation for some of these creatures is almost null. They just stand there twitching slightly while numbers pop out of your foe’s back. The occasional creature makes a little jump when attacking, but that’s nothing… Mounts are large and strong. They can handle it.We’re not going to fall off Devs – they’re not spinning around. We can stay on.This will benefit everyone who has a mount.

What does this do in the end for BEs?Increase sales!!Increase fun factor!!

I’m going to post this in the CH board as well.

Hopefully we can get some constructive discussion going on here.

I realize this has likely been mentioned in the past. However, I think it’s time to take a second look at these features.

I have recently mastered CH and find it a blast to run the animals and back them up with my TK Master Skills.

I have captured myself a pair of Bantha and Bracs, I enjoy the change oif pace from the Speeder bikes and Swoops.

Call me old school but I even hike from time to time. I remeber when I mastered Rifleman ON FOOT! lol

Anyhow, I think a battlecat would be a great addition to mounts. I feel that unfortunately I am a dieing breed in this game and actually enjoy the scenery and adventuring to find the neat regions on the various planets. Taking it all in on a Mount I trained and maintain. No Garage needed, just forage and feed.

Long live the Cowboys!

The mount viability thingy was one of the things the CH's brought up at fanfest. They want people to have a reason to own mounts rather than vehicles, and they want cooler mounts (they specifically requested rancors and flying creatures). Green Marine and Keladrin both seemed to share the concern that the mount market had been decimated and one of them actually suggested that mounts go as fast as vehicles as a potential remedy. They kind of scoffed at the winged mount thingy though(not sure why, most likely challenges in implementation).

Personally, I like having 1 mount in my datapad just because of the disabled vehicle problem. Oh man, nothing like being 10km from the nearest starport and having your vehicle disabled.
