Thread: experimenting
Are there any guides that explain the different types of experimentations categories that can be done with each type of item? I'd like to know what experimenting on the different categories of a power-up will give you in its effect. Or to a weapon or armor or food or whatever. Some are self explanitory, like charges or effectiveness can be somewhat self explanitory, but, all the others that you cannot see an effect happen to the item would be very helpful.

can someone explain it to me?
btw, someone told me that to get bone and hide from animals, you have to hold a gun, is that true?
to experiment you need:
the correct specialized crafting tool
next to the correct public crafting station (in town)
and of course all the necessary resources... the around step 4 or 5 in the crafting process you get the option to experiment or create a draft schematic.
On crafting screen 4 you will have your available experimentation points to the left and the things you can experiment with to the right. You allocate your points by clicking on the boxes on the right hand side. When you have distributed the points you run experiment. You will either fail or succeed at some degree or other.
There is no reason to experiment if you are just grinding, but if you are crafting for use or sale, experimenting can give your item a lot of benefits.

Not sure if success rate is influenced by ore type, but quality is. I get much better quality items when I use copper, than when I use aluminium.

While I consider myself a great salesmen, I honestly do not consider myself a great crafter. Does anybody when I am able to start experimenting? I'm at Domestic Arts III right now. Also, do I need any special tools? When does it tell me I'm able to experiment? After I finish the item or during?
Basically, I have a feeling that I've been able to experiment for a while now, I just don't know how---I'm doing something wrong.
Say, is Copper better than Steel?
I ask this, because thanks to the recent resource shift, our main Steel vein dried up and was replaced by Aluminum for a day, then Copper.
Fortunately, I changed my Metal Harvestor each day (having noticed that it stopped when I first checked them each day), so I have some steel and aluminum in stock, and my brother has a harvestor where the new steel deposit appeared, so I can still get some Steel if needed... so far though, I think the items I've made with Copper have turned out better.
It all depends on what you're making. For tools, CDEF weapons, and power ups, the best material I've found is a Copper. Conductivity and Overall Quality very high. For structures, steels are usually best. It all depends on what you're making.

Well, at the moment I was making Armor and Clothing, and occasionally medical supplies. Our Copper types shot through the roof (we had 1 type, now we have 5), while our Steel (had 5 scattered everywhere, now we have 1 in isolated locations: Namely inside the city itself) and Aluminum (had 4 types scattered everywhere, now have 2 in low quantities) bottomed out.
Well, at least the Steel didn't get replaced by Iron. I have yet to find a good use for Iron.
