Thread: Advice: Give refunds and apologize

If you created bugged creatures and sold them, intentionally or not, and you plan on continuing as a BE, my advice is to give a refund and apologize to your customers. One refund can easily result in 2-5 sales down the road. Be a responsible, informed and informative merchant who puts out a quality product and you will eventually have to start turning people away. It is a pretty simple, time-tested formula.

Good advice, Scorus. And remember to pull all your pet deeds for sale from the bazaar or vendors until we figure out what valid stats are after this fix.

Yes I totally agree. Offer to make them a new pet for free even. You will have a loyal customer, that gets to return business in the future.

I'm not going to refund ANYONE. I had NO indication that the pets I sold would become useless. The people who bought pets from me have a beef with the developers, not me.

Meroc: If I'm a developer, I agree with you. They should have known that they were buying bugged merchandise, you don't get something for nothing, therefore they shouldn't be compensated for their actions.

But as a merchant who wants their business, I would rather turn this into an opportunity to win a friend and loyal customer. Not trying to have my cake and eat it too, just trying to turn a negative situation into a positive outcome.

You know, I didn't go out of my way to create super pets. I just slapped some dna together and produced some pets and sold them. After selling a few, I decided to just quit making pets because well, I figured somekind of fix would be coming in but I knew that I wouldn't be able to tell which pets were bugged and which ones weren't (sure there are obvious pets but what about the borderline ones?). We WERE told that we would be able to make pets with stats of signficantly higher CL. So is a CL 10 with cl 15ish stats out of range? don't know. So I just quit making pets altogether (and informed anybody asking for pets why). Now for the few pets I did make and sold earlier on, I'm not sure what to do because, well, I don't have a list of who I sold to and what price I sold it for.

Wow, it must be nice on that pedestal.

You keep the money and tell the customer to go call dev support, lol. Now who sounds like Sony Customer Service. Everyone who thinks a person who bought an uber non-CH pet had it coming should find a job at Sony. I lost 1 million in a bug months ago, Sony said they couldnt refund me since they had no way to determine if I was lying. At least you know these customers are not lying about the pets not working so why not refund them. Only way I would say notto refund them is if you warned them, but yea I'm so surrrre you warned every customer that came into your house and bought it off your vendor.

Bah! Unless your customers are fluent in the various BE trees and understand what's possible, this statement is false. I'm willing to wager that a good number of a BEs customers have no clue as to what's acceptable and unacceptable with regard to these creatures.

You could apply the same logic to purchasing architect, weaponsmith, or armosmith (etc.) wares. Most of the time customers have to hope that the items they're purchasing are of good quality and valid to use.

This thread, and many others like it, make it pretty obvious that there are plenty of buyers out there who knew they were buying something they shouldn't have.

The problem a lot of people are facing is that many of us (including myself) didn't use any DNA people claimed was responsible for abnormal results on pets, and thus assumed that we wouldn't have to worry about pets being altered or changed. I sold pets that I felt were within 2-4 CL's of the wild equivalent, which is what I assumed was what the developers intended. (As they stated in the notes about the BE update a few months back.)

Now my concern is whether or not we're going to have a fuddle around in the dark for another month because no-one is going to tell us what is 'overpowered' or not. For all we know, we could still be making invalid pets for the next week from strait DNA samples. Are these pets invalid for non-ch's to call? or all people? How do we know?...This is probably the -worst- way to fix this problem.

Being told nothing helpful is just as bad as being told nothing at all.

(I'm o-k with the fixes, I assume due to the fact I and a few others can still call pets of the quality I've been making that low level tanks are still in, which is what I wanted from the word go.)

Read through the thread. Know what? All the buyers on this thread (auction) were given a good heads up before they actually placed their bids. There were a good number of threads warning potential buyers that these pets may indeed be bugged.

These buyers then made an well-informed decision to proceed with their bids.

Well, according to the patch notes, the crafting system was fixed so it shouldn't produce these invalid results. If anyone can prove this wrong I'd like to hear about it so I can complain about it to Keldarin.
