Thread: Item use exp please!
Remember back when other players using your items would give a small exp bonus? Neither do I, but apparently it was once in. It needs to be brought back.
This whole thing with grinding out and deleting thousands of items to get skills up... argh!!! I can't stand it. I so badly want to be a bio engineer, but at my calculations I will have to craft and delete 100 items for each of the first rows, 300 for the 2nd, 500 for the 3rd, and 800 for the last!
With 3 of these rows, that comes to 5100 items to master. Each item takes me about 15 seconds to make. That comes to 21 hours and 41 minutes of clicking.
21 hours and 41 minutes of sitting at my computer clicking through screen after screen.
That is wrong... I shouldn't have to do that, nor should anyone else. Please I BEG you, I like this game so much but I don't want to get carporal tunnel, nor do I want to spend 21 hours grinding. Please put in item use exp, if only a small amount.
Find a macro out there to grind out micronutrients. Make sure the macro uses practice mode so you don't have to delete all those useless micronutrients you're going to make (plus the 5% bonus XP helps).
Grab three Food and Chemical crafting tools, some coffee and a portable DVD plyer along with abunch of movies you've been meaning to watch.
With three tools going in sequence (autorepeating the macro) and each micronutrient taking about 37 seconds from start to finish and yeilding 105 XP per item (you'll need 4858 to master if you have no crafting XP), you'll be done in 60,000 seconds (1000 minutes, 16-2/3 hours). No sweat.
Of course, the hard part is gathering the 73K meat and 170K flora you need to craft all those useless micronutrients.
Good Luck

Actully my math is off. Let's say you need 6000 (to take into account the failures you will have).
My macro took about 7 seconds to get through the crafting screen where I add the ingredients. The actual making of the micronutrient took 29 seconds. So one complete pass through the macro is 36 seconds.
With three crafting tools running simultaneously (staggered by 10 seconds each) it will only take ((6000/3)*36 seconds) + 20 seconds = 72020 seconds to complete 6000 attempts. So, right about 20 hours.
I didn't grind the entire three trees, as I had already made a lot of creatures and stimpacks before I started using the macro. But I wanted to finish before Thanksgiving, so I started the grind.
At least now I'm free to craft at my leisure just the creatures I'm interested in.
Wow, 3 crafting tools? I needed 5 with my macro, and was making an average of 10k points in 12 min. The hardest part is getting meat. DNA sampling is going to be the hardest part to level.
I'm concerned about having fun in games. Are you Holo grinding? If not, I dont recomened grinding so many hours straight. Take some time off from it and do something fun. I would grind for a day, then take a day or 2 and PLAY this game. The cloning changes are coming soon and many of us have pretty much stopped making clones (not that we ever made many in the 1st place) in anticipation of the new system. So it wouldn't be too bad if you took until Dec 13to reach Master.
I have seen a few different macros and I have never gotten any to work so I might just be doing it wrong. Could someone post the macro they use please.
Ok... first I put crafting stations in my first 3 slots.... Then in the same Toolbar(that is important) this is the macro I create.... Macro are case sensitive... remember that when making them... I screwed that up for a while and didnt realize it and was getting mad at the people on the forums.... Also in the DraftSchematic line XX is where the number of your schematic goes... that took me the longest time to figure out... And the numbers changed for me as I leveled up... Just a bit of advice to someone who was in my shoes
/ui action toolbarSlot00 <----Notice there is no space between Slot and 00
/selectDraftSchematic XX<----Notice the space
/pause 20 <---- I am sure that you can do better.... But I am a little slow... lol
/ui action toolbarSlot01
/selectDraftSchematic XX
/pause 20
/selectDraftSchematic XX
This is like the Mcro I used.

I split this into 5 seperate macros, one for each tool, with a /ui action toolbarSlot## pointed to the next tools macroat the end of each, the last pointing to the 1st again.
With this macro, once it starts, all you have to do is double click on ingrediants. It does everything else for you. To stop it I would right click on the macro button for the next tool and select remove.
I used a 6 sec /pause to put the ingrediants in, but it could have been lower.
The schematic numbers seem to be chronalogical to that type of machine. The skills page was most helpful in deterniming the what schematicyou gotbefore another.
-you only need generic crafting tools for micronutrient supplements
-the best time efficiency comes when using 4 or 8 crafting tool macros...this is because of the time it takes the tool to finish making the prototype...anything less than 4, or more than 4 but less than 8, and you're just wasting time, and you have crafting stations doing nothing. just patiently tweak your offsets (using pauses), and you'll have a seamless progression, where as soon as you've entered the resources for one crafting tool, it closes, and the next one opens up, so you have 4 crafting tools constantly chugging out those coffee pots with green stuff in them
-the pause time can be easily decreased to 4 secs, which means that once you get the hang of the clicking speed and timing you need, you can zone out and click through, getting about 10k xp for every 10 minutes of grinding

ok this is probably really obvious but how do you know what the draft schematic # is?? ive been trying different numbers for about 15 minutes and i can see no obvious pattern to them.
mine was # 7 using a Food and Chemical Crafting Tool.
however, the number of the schematic you need depends on the tool you're using. there is a hierarchy of crafting tools, which is (from top to bottom) private crafting station -> public crafting station -> food/chem crafting tool -> generic crafting tool. in terms of this discussion, we only need to care about 3 types: 1) station 2) specialized tool (food and chem tool) 3) generic tool
so how does this apply to the datapad? well..let's look at our good old friend, mr. micronutrient supplement. he can be made with a generic, or a food/chem tool, or a full blown private crafting station. but all it REQUIRES is a generic tool.
so if you want to find out what draft schematic number it is, you count them from left to right, and moving across the rows, until you get to your desired item. However, you ONLY COUNT THE SCHEMATICS THAT CAN BE MADE BY THE TOOL YOU'RE USING. So, for making micronutrient supplements (MNS), I use a generic tool, as that's all it requires. So, i count through my datapad, until i get to my MNS, but i only count the schematics that require generic crafting tools, and when i get to my MNS, i subract 1. [just like most macroable things in this game, the numbering sequence starts with 0, and not 1 (the programmers amoung you will be comfortable with this; just treat them as arrays)]. when you want to make something that needs a food and chem crafting tool, but not a full blown station, then you count up to your schematic, but you have to include everything that can be made with a food/chem tool AND the generic tool. every tool in the little hierarchy stated above can make certain new things, as well as all the schematics of the tools below it...so for grinders, you definitely want to stick to generic tools, as you have to deal with the least draft schematics this way
there seems to be a lot of confusion with draft schematics in all the forums. it's not random. you have to realize though that the number you find is bound to change, when you get new clones/items you can make, the game sometimes **edit**s things around in your datapad. i'd advise against sorting your datapad, as traveling by starship seems to reset any sorting of containers that you do. just let the game sort the schematics out in your datapad the way it wants to, and resign yourself to the occational recount when you get a new crafting skill
