I stopped wearing my MBE tag (most of my business comes from word of mouth now)...
"Hey can you make me a kimo and have Medium AR 80% kin other res high and 600dmg 14k HAM can you make them CL23 so I can use three at same time how long will it take can you do it in 20 mins I can help what can I do!?!?!?!?"
Yeah, Im exaggerating, but only a little bit. 
Yeah - I hide my MBE tag too (not that it helps much).
I've got some 'stock responses' on macros:
/r "I don't make custom pets, but if you want I can send you the WP for my vendors"
"Do you have any cats?"
I am 1/1/3/1, so no, i can't make any. but that is all they want from me is cats.
The other day this idiot who will remain nameless was wandering around the imp outpost on Dantooine saying he wanted a pet. I asked him what level he wanted. I showed him the pets i had at that level.
He said "Can I have it?"
I said "yeah, it's (forget price)K"
He says "**edit** you, i have better pets than that now and i get em for free"
I said "Well, I am not running a soup kitchen so if you're not interested, fine, i got the point"
I pray that this juvenile goes rebel so i can use that pet to kill him.
I've never been asked to make a Kimo, though I did make one out of merek harvester and sold it for 150k when some guy saw me with it out and just had to have it. 
I always just ask people level and what they want it for, and if it's reasonable that I can do it I tell em e-mail me name, level, stats and I'll get to them when/if I can get it.
Several ahve been very pleased to hear from me a week later with a pet as good or better than they requested.. but I don't run around to make a custom pet. I may make one different from my standard templates, but only as I have time and DNA.
these were my 2 favorites before the big patch ( i know you said recently, but im retired):
