Thread: Surveying XP is starting to bug me!!

Any macros for surveying would need to be customized for your toon, different action and mind stats, etc, unless you're willing to waste alot of time you might not have needed to. Also, there are those random events with high concentrations, etc. I don't know if you keep surveying even if you don't choose an option from the dialog, I've always been at the keyboard surveying, maybe getting up for a minute or two to get a drink. I wasn't totally focusing on artisan, I just did it whenever I had some free time, and I was also able to do it in a total of a few hours. Actually surveying right now, since I found a nice deposit of tubers with no land I can place a harvester on for like a thousand meters around. The server gods really hate me.
I completed the survey tree in a night as well. Did they change the XP since September? I honestly don't remember it being that tedious. I had a macro to help, but I was present the entire time and would stop to chase down the large concentration events or the rich samples.
I did the survey/sample xp while at the keyboard. I would go to the outdoor roof of my house, survey until I found the highest concentration and then start sampling. While sampling I called out my driod with a crafting station and would craft things for chef and architect to help master those. When the random events happened, I would see them between crafts and click appropriately. Took about 2-3 nights (maybe 5 hours each night?) but I had a ton of furniture to place on vendor, and I got about 3/4ths the way through chef by the end of it.
Also, food helps. With a bottle of Accaragm and one of Brandy, I was able to sample continuously without having to stop and wait to regenerate. The food made it so I would regenerate completely before the next sample took its hit. Remember that food is not just for combat - there are a lot of cool foods out now.
And don't forget you can craft while sampling. It may not be the quickest way, but it does make good use of your time.

Here it is for those that have either missed it or what have you. This macro also prevents the pop-up screens from stopping you sampling. You don't get to utilize the rich concentrations, but realistically, who cares if you're continuously sampling? By the way, if you're sampling to gain resources other than to complete the Survey tree, look into harvesters. Sampling is just that: sampling. If you gather resources that way, it's gonna be a looong road through the elite professions. Especially if you go after something like Architect where you need thousands of resources to build one house.
/stand;
/sample;
/pause 3;
/stand;
/sit;
/pause 28;
/ui action toolbarSlot00; (or wherever you stick the macro)
It will be easier if your Focus and Willpower are maxed out - then you never need to worry about your mind pool running out.
Creat a macro named "sample"
- /sample;
- /pause 110;
- /stand;
- /pause 10;
- /macro sample
Another good way to burn through the surveying tree is to buy a drink in the local market that gives you a 30 min buff on your action bar. i found that with this in effect the bar stayed at max for about 30 mins and then it took another 10 minutes to drain to nothing and stop me from getting any samples. I then learned to defeat this even further i would just make stim-b's while sampling, and use the stim-b's to heal myself at the same time. i would get crafting xp, med xp, and surveying xp all at the same time. i tore through surveying 3 and 4 in just a couple hours this way.
i also found that there is always places to sample in town so you dont have to worry about critters durring that time.

The survey macro is the way to go. Use the one near the top of the thread and run it, just keep your action bar in view for awhile, if you dont fully regenerate when you start surveying again just lengthen it.
Theres been a lot of good suggestions here, especially the stims. But if you are just starting out and have no cash, run the macro while at work/school. When you get back you'll have a stack of resources and can start crafting. I did an alt just recently with the desire to get to chef, the surveying line went the fastest! Heck came home from work and found 8K aluminum in my inventory. Just do it in town where you are relatively safe, and try to keep your back to a building so you dont wander.
