Thread: resource prices..
but why are resources such as sort of secondary resoures etc, priced similarly to power resources, (i.e. 3cpu), when these secondary resources actually cost power to harvest??
actully, how much power does it take to harvest other resources? i may be answering my own question here. if it uses 1 power to extract tem billion of whatever extra cost would be negligable..
anyone have any idea what the ratio of "power:harvested" (roughly, i know different harvesters, skill, and concetrations probably have an impact)

There are a bunch of variables, but here's a realalistic example.
BER 10, medium harvestor. 75% resource density. 24hr period. Power used=1200units, resource extracted=10800 units
If you're paying 3 CPU for the power it's only costing 0.33 credit per unit harvested.

Plus the maintanence costs of the harvester.

thanks for that...
so powerisn'ta MASSIVE requirement..
oh..and i didnt know you could redeed harvesters? can i do so with my personal harvester, or do i have to wait till i have larger ones?
The one thing to consider with re-deeding personal harvestors is the cost. I believe the re-deed cost on a personal harvestor is 1500cr. Often you can purchase new ones for a fraction of the cost.
The best advice I have is think about trying to stockpile enough cash to upgrade to BER 9-10 harvestors and Fusion generators (Radioactive extractors) for energy. You need to have some capital to start, but your profit margins will sky-rocket even at low CPU prices.

For a starting player with limited money a good first step is to start with personal harvesters with a Base Extraction Rate (BER) of 4. This can be made by Master Artisans as well as Architects and provide you with an inexpensive way of harvesting resources. They have a much lower BER than a maximized medium or heavy, but the operating costs are the lowest and well within the means of a beginning player.
After you have made enough money with yourpersonalsI would skip mediums and move straight to Heavies. You can still use your personals to augment your heavies, and if you need smaller portions of a less valuable resource you can just use the personals.
The one thing that you want to get is a fusion generator if you are going to be running any number of harvesters. The money you will save by harvesting radioactive ore will help your bottom line.
Good Luck
Why are you buying your Power for 3cr/u? There are people selling it for 1cr/u, and I have even purchased 100k stacks for 0.75cr/u.
Also, What I usually do is use2 Fusion Generator on a high percentage spot for 1 Resource Shift, then I have enoughPower to run my 10 Harvesters for 2-3 Resource Shifts.
Of course getting that 1st Fusion Generator is hard if you don't have some good friends, as they are quite expensive for newbs to the game.

I am not sure I agree with going straight to heavies. If you can get BER 10 mediums the operating cost is somewhat lower than a BER 13 heavy. Between the 1500 additional redeed costs and the additional per hour costs (power and maintenance) your minerals will cost you 50% more if you use a heavy, but you only gather 30% more in resources.
And someone said that PE and OQ does not matter for Wind and Solar energy... I believe this is wrong. For those the OQ is always 500, but the PE affects how many units of power you get for for each unit of resource, with PE 500 being one.
