With all of these debates over wether or not harvesters should require certs, everything always comes back to one central focus... money. Everything is all about the money. I think the economy could easily be ruined by people who are too concerned with making money.
Don't get me wrong, money is good and money is necessary, but the more certain people become rich, the more outrageous repair/maintenance charges will become. I'm sure that if the people who have 8 heavy harvesters and don't need the materials to make anything, which means a 0% failure and no lost resources, need to pay more for the upkeep of their harvesters, that's fine. But if I have to pay any more than what I do now, then I won't have time to be an artisan, I'll have to run missions all day to feed my harvesters.
I'm just here to have fun, not to make money. I have a real job for that, one that is far, far less fun than playing SWG.

Yeah, that's what I take away from the vocal few who are vehemently in favor of harvester certs - they want to hold the entire server hostage on resource prices. They don't realize that with decreased supply comes hyperinflation, which in turn reduces demand. In this case, that reduced demand would take the form of cancelled accounts. Because Riflemen not only wont *want* to pay over 200k for a gun and over 2 million for a suit of composite, they won't be able to!!!
So no, you're no more insane than I am on that count...
... and that doesn't get you out of the asylum so don't look so happy about it!

it was also suggested the the artisan field get harvester bonuses/reduced maint..
so in the end you might actually pay less as an artisan :-)

RoboRaid- you are not insane, the idea of certs for harvs is.
Halaster- omg, someone understands econimics!
Sinist- "lack of creative thinking" How could you possibly critisize someone for this? You should not try to bash people who are obviously smarter than you. The "greater problem" as you say is people like you trying to ruin our already quite usefull proffession.
Granted I make alot more money due to my Arch skills, but I still make 100k+ a week purely off my artisan skills.
Oh and Saleus reduced fees won't happen, merchants with 0400 already get 20% reduction to structure maint.
