Thread: I think that harvesters requiring certification is a good thing....with one flaw

I think it should work like this...

Novice Artisan - personal harvester

Master Artisan - medium / heavy

Novice (WS, AS, DE, Chef, Tailor) - Medium

Master (WS, AS, DE, Chef, Tailor) - Heavy

The major reason I think we need a certification for harvesters is for lot-swapping....I think after they remove the holo-grinding system we will see a big decrease in overall mining

What about Smuggler? And Doctor? Don't they get to mine their own materials?

You can solve the cross-server "problem" by restricting the "Operate Machinery" menu item to the lot owner only. And that won't hold an entire galaxy hostage to resources provided by only artisans.

This is yet another knee-jerk, insufficiently thought through answer to a problem that isn't really that big a problem.

Can you please put 5 minutes of thought into solving the current problems in Iraq? I'm sure the Bush administration (and the rest of the world) would appreciate your advice.

uh oops....merchant and architect should be up there too

basically all the professions that stem from the artisan tree should get access to mediums and heavies without having to master artisan

this wouldn't hurt the dedicated crafter base while still making it skill point costly to operate the mediums and heavies

As a Master Artisan I still say artisans have no reason whatsoever to expect harv certs.

We are crafters, NOT miners. Craft = Product MAKERS.

Yep. You want harvester certs, create a Miner Elite professionand do 'em in there. I floated one earlier this week that's probably on the first 2 pages on this forum still...

Hum, to my opinion, this kind of cert will do this :
Remove the lot rent system.
And increase the server swap system.
People that want lots will make a noob artisan on another server find someone to do the same for them and just grind the prof in a day, with the resource of the other person and an afk macro for surveying.

So, the only good thing it will do, is increase the number of characters in the stats of SOE.

Besides, as I said before, I'm an artisan because I wanna be a crafter, not a miner.

I agree 100%. You are by definition as crafters a profession that turns raw materials into refined objects (like steel into a blaster, or a speeder) Why should you by design be the only ones who can pull the raw materials out of the ground?? If anyone should have that right, it should be a new mining class, NOT artisians, or Weaponsmiths, or any other crafter.

Andymantium,

SWG is a skills-based game. The use of certain weapons requires skills or certifications. This is also true of certain armor.

It only makes sense that operating harvesters would require skills too. At least to those of us who think that not everyone in the SW films appears to have been a master at resource extraction.

Combat characters should be able to choose to have the skills to let them extract resources if that is what they want. But they should have to spend points on those skills. That is all I'm saying.

All true. So... who else is for the devsimplementing the dropped"Miner" profession?

I, personally, would love to play that one.

But, as it stands today, Artisan is no more a miner than is a Bounty Hunter. Ford doesn't mine metal; they make cars with it. Stearns & Foster doesn't mine oil or cut timber, they make mattresses with polyester and wood.

weapon certs make you more efficient at using the weapon.

Surveying makes you more efficient at havestingby letting you select a resource that some reasearch will tell you is needed then tracking down that resource with the survey skill.thereare no skills used to run a harvester. if there were they would stop running when you moved out of range or logged out.

the rifleman doesn't open up a menu on his T-21 that list available target types, selects one then clicks kill and logs out for the night.
