Thats right! Last night I crit failed and lost an av'21 power plant TWICE! I can understand losing the materials in a crit fail, but how is it right to lose a drop as rare as an av21 power plant??? They fixed architect so that large builds like houses don't lose materials... but the largest structure is NOTHING compared to the cost of or rareness of the av21 parts!
I'm a master artisan and have been for a long time. I had to build an av21 for a prize in our event this weekend... Numanjii Trade Festival raffle... Our citizens took their time and ruined some armor on the corvette. after 3 tickets and many black HAM bars they returned with the power plant.
Last night, standing next to a 42 rate crafting station, using a 15 rate tool, and wearing 13 experimentation points in buffed clothes, I crit failed the av21 build!
It was a shock! AV21's sell for upwards of 2 million! As an architect, I cant sell a house for more than 150k and I can't crit fail it! but as a MASTER artisan, I crit on the single most expensive crafted item in the game? How is that right?
Well, My city came through for us and the same fellow who found the first one went to the corvette and found ANOTHER one! He rushed it back to town for me to try again.
crit fail again!
TWO AV21 POWER PLANTS DOWN THE TOILET! Once is a game feature, a danger of crafting... twice is a travesty! A master artisan should NEVER fail twice in a row, and NEVER on something as rare as this part. I logged off in disgust after telling our city I had blow 4 million credits worth of speeders.
I logged back in after an hour to find Kam'ron had travelled to the corvette and found a THIRD power plant! Maybe the swg gods were being kind to this poor artisan. After two fails I was afraid to try again, but the citizens insisted. this time using a crafting droid and buffed with crafting cake, the build went ok. Only glitch was a single crit on an experiment.
So, our raffle prize is "technically" worth 6 million credits.
Artisans, we need to band together here. Items that require special rare loot drops should NEVER crit fail, or at the very least, if they crit you should only lose the materials and not the rare part. These rare item builds are becoming more and more common. In space expansion, ship components will be made with loot drops. They eliminated crit fail losses for architects, why not rare loot crit fails? On top of that, a MASTER artisan should NEVER crit twice in a row!
Crit fails on rare components should NEVER happen.

oh my that is bad...
I agree with you as losing any of the looted components is a heartache. The first time I tried one of the limited use schematics in tailor I crit failed on it so I lost the resources and a use on the schematic. I'm glad the use bug was fixed but losing the looted component is just as bad if not worse.
Congrats on a third successful build. And you must have a wonderful guild to go to all that work in order to get that AV-21 built. Hope all goes well in the future and no more heartrenching crit fails of this type.

At the master level there should be no crit fail .... but alas .... there is. And it seems that there ever shal be cause SOE thinks thats increases "the gaming experience". They have obviously never had to live in the server community after being so lucky as to have this rich gaming experience visited upon their head.
Your experience is not unique tho. Krayt tissues dissappearing into crit fails followed by acusations of theft of the tissues are hardly unheard of.

Stories like this convince me that "assembly" bonuses are underrated.

I agreee, Masters should get back any rare loot components.
But, you see, ONLY JEDI can get back rare loot items if they craft and get critcal failures.
so, perhaps, we have to wait for the FS skills to prevent this.....

I feel your pain. I am a R.I.S. Certified Armorsmith. I have lost 1 GDK scale this way, 2 wooly frags and 2 gurk hides. The very 1st loss was a hide and a bone frag just trying to start the damned quest. What really blows isthat its a customers GDK scale. As hard as these items are to get and this happens you would think that with food enhancements, a good crafting tool & station that this wouldnt happen. When they should be worried about REAL ISSUES, they revamp image design. These people have no priorities. Get used to it or "submit a ticket".
I feel your pain.

I have brought this thread to the Devs and asked if they'd consider changing such that rare loot components are not lost on a crit fail.
Stay tuned.

Thanks, Guruweaver.
I'd make a second request that even if they are there be some sort of system message that there was a crit fail and what that crit fail was on for those near a crafter or grouped with him/her at the time of the crit fail.
I bet our colleague who lost the GDK scale may have been suspected of stealing it. They're probably more valuable that AV-21s. Or am I wrong?

That would be great to not lose rare loots in a crit fail....I would be so pissed!!
Thanks Guru

My question is why are these rare loot components dropping in the first place?
The economy was designed on the premise that rare loot drops would never hold the crafting profession hostage. The devs folded on this shortly after live.
I empathize with your situation - crit failure rated have been something artisans, and the related elites began asking the devs about in the correspondent forum last August or September. Last I heard the Devs refused to admit that a Master of their profession, with the best available tools should not be having multiple crit failures.
It's only been 9 months or so, since this issue was brought to their plate. Apparently we are supposed to be more patient. Combat classes have only had 2 complete class reviews, maybe we can get an answer to THIS longstanding issue after their third.

I have heard rumors that the jedi lightsaber crafting is being changed so they do not lose crystals or pearls in a crit fail.
If this is true then there is no technical reason for the devs not to do the same for all crafters and rare loot items!

Bianca,
I agree completely with you on the issue of loot drops. Let the best stuff be crafted from resources. And let no schematic be of limited use. I can see a role for looted schematics in the sense of things that are secret and newly developed by one group or another in the GCW, though. Things like Imp PSGs.
Where the devs really failed the crafters though was in the introduction of "magic items" that improve your crafting skill. Lootable experimentation tapes.
