It would be hard to lose a GDK scale that way. They have values in the millions for a single scale.
I wish there were at least some kind of system message for those nearby when you fail with looted components so that they don't think you are stealing it and using it for yourself. They did that within groups in EQ so I know SOE has folks who can program that.

Architects do not have losses due to crits on large resource items because they complained enough about it during beta and shortly after. We still have crit fails, but we do not lose the materials. It was the sheer quantity of lost materials in a large build that was a sticking point with architects. But still... no single build in architecture has the sheer loss potential that a SINGLE av21 crit fail has! It basically cost me 6 million credits to build one av21!
I'm not saying to get rid of crit fails. There still HAS to be a risk in crafting. I'm suggesting just the rare components not be lost in a crit. The av21 also requires several thousand units of resources, and in order to make a good speeder, they must be very good resources. I would NOT mind losing all the resources to a crit fail... but the power plant that is so hard to get is too much to lose!

As a weaponsmith I fully understand your frustration. Critical failures using rare loot are a problem for most crafting professions. I have simply decided to refuse any customer requests to craft weapons using their rare loot. I have nothing to gain from doing so and I risk getting a very sad (or even angry) customer. SOE should ask themselves if this is the way they planned the game to be.

That does suck....they should change it so you don't lose the rare components!

Thanks for bringing this up to the devs Guru. It would be nice to see their reaction and response. The answer I got back from my ticket basically said "wow! Sorry you had critical falures twice and lost the parts. The crafting system is working as designed. Thank you for playing SWG."
I've had another person from our PA come to me since this incident asking me to make an AV21 for them, and I turned them down. I don't know about others, but a crit fail of this magnitude shook my confidence a bit. I may end up making the AV for him eventually, but I only hesitate because I don't want to be the one responsible for this person's disappointment if I blow it! He's been trying to find a power plant since the corvette opened and was so excited when he finally found one.
I care about the people in our PA and I have to admit they proved something to me. After my second critical failure I did not want to try again, but they all insisted. People were gathered around me and my crafting droid cheering me on and offering support in guild chat. It was a tiny moment, but it showed me what a great bunch we have in SalSlak PA

I agree that it is a bad situation. I think the customers need to realize that just because they get the parts doesn't ensure they get the AV-21. I have not had to build one for anybody yet, but just out of curiosity do you (other master artisans) charge for materials if you get a critical failure? You are using the same resources you could build a speeder or swoop with, minus the looted items ofcourse. Just curious.

I have never charged for a crit fail. I'd feel like a complete ass if I lost someone's hard to find av21 parts and said "Damn the bad luck! I crit failed on your speeder! So sorry... now pay me 18000 for the 6k I lost in materials."
Crits are my problem, but if I'm concerned enough about it, I can ask the customer to provide the materials.

Salporin_Wookie wrote:Thats right! Last night I crit failed and lost an av'21 power plant TWICE! I can understand losing the materials in a crit fail, but how is it right to lose a drop as rare as an av21 power plant??? They fixed architect so that large builds like houses don't lose materials... but the largest structure is NOTHING compared to the cost of or rareness of the av21 parts!I'm a master artisan and have been for a long time. I had to build an av21 for a prize in our event this weekend... Numanjii Trade Festival raffle... Our citizens took their time and ruined some armor on the corvette. after 3 tickets and many black HAM bars they returned with the power plant.Last night, standing next to a 42 rate crafting station, using a 15 rate tool, and wearing 13 experimentation points in buffed clothes, I crit failed the av21 build! It was a shock! AV21's sell for upwards of 2 million! As an architect, I cant sell a house for more than 150k and I can't crit fail it! but as a MASTER artisan, I crit on the single most expensive crafted item in the game? How is that right?Well, My city came through for us and the same fellow who found the first one went to the corvette and found ANOTHER one! He rushed it back to town for me to try again.crit fail again!TWO AV21 POWER PLANTS DOWN THE TOILET! Once is a game feature, a danger of crafting... twice is a travesty! A master artisan should NEVER fail twice in a row, and NEVER on something as rare as this part. I logged off in disgust after telling our city I had blow 4 million credits worth of speeders.I logged back in after an hour to find Kam'ron had travelled to the corvette and found a THIRD power plant! Maybe the swg gods were being kind to this poor artisan. After two fails I was afraid to try again, but the citizens insisted. this time using a crafting droid and buffed with crafting cake, the build went ok. Only glitch was a single crit on an experiment. So, our raffle prize is "technically" worth 6 million credits.Artisans, we need to band together here. Items that require special rare loot drops should NEVER crit fail, or at the very least, if they crit you should only lose the materials and not the rare part. These rare item builds are becoming more and more common. In space expansion, ship components will be made with loot drops. They eliminated crit fail losses for architects, why not rare loot crit fails? On top of that, a MASTER artisan should NEVER crit twice in a row!Crit fails on rare components should NEVER happen.Message Edited by Salporin_Wookie on 06-25-2004 10:52 AM
I totally salute you for logging back in. On the second attempt my pc would've had a crit fail after i through it out the window.

I feel your pain. I just had a critical failure on an AV-21 as well. A guildmember had been collecting the parts over the past month, paid a good deal for it, and now this.
Something has to be done about this. I'm tired of the (seemingly) automated reply back from a CSR saying, basically, "...the crafting system is working as intended."
House poofs... "...working as intended."
Vehicle dismount warps... "...working as intended."
Lot poofs... "...working as intended."
Sounds like all those wonderful Dell and Gateway technical "support" personnel who were laid off when their jobs were shipped to India landed a job at SoE support.
Way to go, Sony, way to go.
And I have four accounts for THIS?
