Thread: Artisan to lose vendors?
The latest from Thunderheart, courtesy of the devtracker:
DocSavag is a strong voice for the Merchants and based on the correspondent issues, this change may include the fact that only merchants can have vendors.
This, IMHO, is bad.
How exactly do you get the Merchant experience needed to get Novice Merchant if you don't get your first vendor from the Business tree of Artisan?
You think people are going to level you up to Novice Merchant bypaying entry fees to your house (at a whopping 50XP per entry)that now contains no vendor or reason to go in?
Dumb idea.
If you think there is a problem with Artisans having a vendor, then let Artisans keep the one vendor. Limit the number of items on it to 25, so that it basically becomes their own personal bazaar with no ceiling on prices. Maybe build an ability to put more items on vendors into the Merchant tree. Then the Merchant profession is no devalued adn if someone really want to be able to sell in quantitiesm they have to at least get Novice Merchant.
Just my $.02

I don't see this happening. That would just be insane.
As a merchant, I see no problem with having a vendor in the artisan tree. It takes no buisness from me.
I think that they are mainly concered with people climbing to buisness 3, getting a vendor, then dropping the skills. The best way to combat this is bytaking awaythe vendor when you drop buisness 3.

As long as there is a cap on the bazaar, there should be a way for artisans to sell their items without having to persue a Merchant. Even if it is as limiting as proposed above.
Although I hate to say it, I understand the need for creating a vendor cap. But I think allowing the Merchants to increase this cap (similar to the recent Creature Handler's update) as they gain more experience would be a better route than a flat 150 cap for vendors. This way, it gives people incentive to find a Master Merchant if they want a big vendor or they can rent a lower capacity from a beginning merchant.
second, it is still a bad idea, but should be moved up the tree to business 4. i dont think having a vendor is something ONLY a merchant profession have the luxury of, but it should be quite a bit more expensive for a non-merchant to maintain a vendor than it currently is.
Keep it at Biz4, but losing it all together? Oh man, why do they keep taking **edit** away from us?
One more step toward leaving. Thanks.
One merchant in that thread claims it's all a big mistake, that Doc Savage (I guess he's the merchant cor?) never asked that vendors be restricted to merchant only. The rest of the merchant posts I've seen applaud it as a good change. Once these absolutely strange things gain momentum they just happen, regardless of facts and other such irrelevancies.
I wonder if it would be a good idea if our correspondent would take up the issue on our behalf?
#1. Our correspondant doesnt exist, and hasnt posted in 3 months.
#2. This would effect me at all. I have MA and working on MM.
On the bright side - if the business line no longer grants minimal vendor rights I'll have 20 more points to put into something else (MA goes of course - but whatever).
