No, they still had hit points, at least the free newbie one I got did.

Yes, I went to the NGE preview in Austin.

Fire away with your questions.

Did they do more to crafting than reorganising the skill trees?
i.e. did they remove anything yet? (like the repair kits)

Do we get anything good out of this at this point?

All i know so far is that crafters dont draw aggro anymore.

Other than clumping crafting into the four specializations, there were no significant changes to crafting. It's still pretty much the same game as it was before. No new spiffies or anything.

One thing I noted is that all four specializations appeared to receive Master Artisan and Master Merchant as they progress.

My question would be, do you still advance by crafting things or are there 'crafting quests'?

Does this now mean that ONLY crafters get merchant?

Was there no way for combat profs to have vendors themselves?

{that was one thing I never agreed with for anyone who posted it, everyone should be able to sell items on their own with vendors, not just craft}

Both, I think. There were a number of crafting quests in the newbie area. I wasn't able to get much further than that, however.

As far as I can tell, only traders get vendors.

Is it still worth making Vehicle repair kits? These needs asteroids so it takes a hell of a time.

Can't say for sure, but I think so. I only got a few hours in the new game, so I didn't have a chance to get a real, full exhaustive look at everything.

Guru:

I just wanted to say thanks for bringing some info back beyond the new combat system that seems to be the focus of the most of the dev responses. {although to be fair, the majority of player questions are about combat / conversion}.

Out of curiousity, did you happen to come across any new items in your testing, or were all the items you gained access to the same run-of-the-mill stuff we've got now?

The new class system does sound like it'll bring a bunch of changes to the crafting / business playstyle. No more multi-proffing to make your own subcomponents (although maybe they'll be putting things like Synthcloth into both the armor and domestics specializations). No more combat players taking up business 3 for a loot / creature resourcevendor; they'll have to either sell it on the bazaar, through the auction forums, or set up an agreement with a Trader player.

The decay issue is worrying. It's bad enough right now for weaponsmiths and armorsmiths with people gathering ADKs. And unless crafted items can compete with looted ones, that'd be another nail in the coffin.

I saw no new schematics, but I didn't get to really dig into it like I would have wanted to. I did see a number of new loot items, rings, bracelets, etc with boosts on them (to the stats or skills). The newbie crafting tool I got had a +5 artisan assembly on it.

It was stated by tiggs in some post I have lost now that there is no Decay, but items still take damage. So you use your weapon, it gets damaged, clothes can take damage too I think it said.
