Thread: Effective means of price control.
I know that alot of people are upset at the Artisans who sell their bone armor for 500 creds or whatever. Well I had a problem with this on my server in Cornet, SO I did something about it, and it works.
The easiest way to help fix this issue is to BUY the items you think are severely undercutting our profits as artisans and resell them at markup.
I bought about 15 pieces of Bone Armor yesterday off the market for between 500-750 credits each. I then resold them at 1500-2750 credits each.
The Artisans I bought them from contacted me to inquire why I bought 3 gloves, or 3 boots they had made. I told them it was because they priced so low that I could make a killing off them. Most of them now sell their good for much higher prices =).
Anyway, point is that if a good number of artisans start doing this, we can shift the market value of items up to where we want it. If someone thinks they can undersell you, good for them. Buy their atuff on the bazaar and resell it at a profit.

Dude!! You should NEVER have told them why you bought 'em. Or, you shoulda said they were for your PA members.
You had a nice little scam going, and had to blow it by being "honest"
-)
someone is selling a product that you sell, cheaper then you are. You feel you have a right to demand what prices are?
You think that because YOU feel that bone armor, the easiest, cheapest armor you can make should somehow only
sell at the price YOU think it should?
Wecome to economics 101.
YOU think that the price that you want the items is the ONLY price that can be paid?? Who the hell are you???
If i want to sell my bone armor for 550 credits, thats my right. Its not undercutting you, we had no agreement, I dont even
know you. I charge what I think is fair for my product. Bone armor is certainly not worth 3000 credits for a single
breastplate, especially the crap that I see going for 3000. Im happy to sell my higher quality armor for less then
some POS 16% any day of the week.
Im glad you are not on my server... you would find yourself at the cloning bay as often as I could find you.
This is how economys work, if it costs me less to make my armor then it does for you, I can sell it for a cheaper
price... economics 101...
so shut up about undercutting and get busy trying to make better armors.... or get out of the bussiness... nobody is
going to stand for you buying thier items and marking them up... maybe you should get involved with a good PA
like those guys instead of crying about it all the time.
I can understand where "under-cutting" our prices can be frustrating. However, as I have looked at items and attempted to find a "competitive" price, I compare quality and realize that a few points difference in damage or a .1 difference in speed will not entice someone to purchase my goods over another's. However, you knock a couple hundred off the price and suddenly your items start to move. Now, is it because other artisans are buying up the stock and then re-selling it? Maybe. When I need capital, regardless of its source, that's okay with me.
My question becomes, if I manufacture a rifle and sell it for 100 credits which some uber-artisan believes is undercutting his/her market and then purchases and resells it for 300 credits, who gets the UXP? If its me, no problem. If its the reseller, you just hurt my efforts to gain more xp. As the artisan field continues to mature, it will be challenging for up-and-coming craftspeople to market their goods if everyone is selling uber-weapons and armor. What will happen then is the pendulum swinging back to correct these measures and people selling their uber-weapons and armor at absurd prices in order to move it.
If you sell your bone armor for 550 credits, good for you! I'm happy to buy it at that price, and even happier to turn around and make a 2500 credit profit on it.
If you undersell the market value, this is what's going to happen to you. Economics 101. Deal with it.
As for the cloning bay, pbbbbbbt. I thumb my nose at idle threats, and you can't touch this. Neener.
Actually, the Dev's have made a profession for folks that want to do this in Merchant. They can buy at wholesale and resell at retail more efficiently with their skills.
If you want to focus on crafting, and want your cash quickly to buy more materials or whatever, sell at lower prices. You can price things higher, but your money will be tied up longer in inventory.
A few people will luck out and get good buys either by finding them on the bazaar or directly contacting someone like a crafter who can get it for them wholesale.
"Im glad you are not on my server... you would find yourself at the cloning bay as often as I could find you. "
"This is how economys work, if it costs me less to make my armor then it does for you, I can sell it for a cheaper price... economics 101... "
Wow, that's an ignorant thing to say. Plus you are wrong. Let me get this straight: because someone knows what value an item will bear on the market and is smart enough to take advantage of it,you bear ill will against them? Why are you complaining? You got your stupid asking price. And the buyer isn't complaining because he's making 1000-2000 profit. Where's the problem? There is none.
If someone buys low and sells high, he/she's a smart business person. and THAT is Economics 101, JACK.
I dont seem to have a problem selling my items....
if you decide to buy my items and sell them again, no sweat off my back.. the person
is still passing ME down the use xp. and I still made what I wanted off that item.
you can cry about price control and all that, but I never signed anything saying
that XXX item sells for XXX. I set my prices and nobody will change that, not you,
not anyone...
Here is how economy works.
If you post an item for 500, then you are saying that you want 500 for that item. Lower price means lower risk for you. You're pretty darn sure gonna find someone who is willing to drop 500 for that armor or whatever.
Now whether I buy it, someone else buys it, or an artisan who wants to boost prices buys it, you are getting your 500. End of story, you got what you asked, Alex will hand you your lovely 500 credit parting gift at the door.
Now if the person that bought it decides that they are willing to take bigger risk (Selling for 3000 may not find a buyer as fast as one for 500, and that is a risk) then they will get the opportunity for bigger reward (not having to invest the time to make the item. Just 2 minutes of buying and reselling and still making money).
That is how economy works. I'm not agreeing with the people doing this, nor am I agreeing that prices should be lower. I'm just saying that if you list an item for 500 and at the end of the day you walk away with 500, you have accomplished your goal, sold your goods, and gotten what you wanted. Don't complain if you are getting what you ask for. If you're not happy that something sold for 500, then don't list things for 500.
That being said, eventually everyone and theirwookie will be able to make armor of varying quality. When that happens prices WILL fall because if the artisan market is making 5 bone boots for every 3 people who want one, the market will find a way to stabilize. Either by the price-fixers having their sales run out of time with no buyer, or by people getting armor from friends, or by any other means you can think of.
In this galaxy, price fixing has not yet been made illegal. I don't intend to do it, but I certainly would be amused if this became an entirely new profession. Buy low, sell high, come join the Bazaar Brokers of Bestine!

be in here crying that people are selling cheaper. People are selling cheaper because
the items are selling at the cheap price and not for the 3000 or more that is being asked.
So tell me again who is having trouble understanding market forces??
and just who set the market price again?? a few guys that decided that they would put armor
up for 3000?? I seem to see pieces of armor selling for 3000 on the bazaar on my server still
sitting there, items placed on the bazaar yesterday afternoon.
All mine seems to have sold....
again economics...
