Thread: Why am I as a Miner (Surveyor) not bothered by the latest sampling / harvesting changes?
Simply because as a miner I like to go out and find the best resources by surveying and thenset up harvesters to do my mining. I then sell my resources on the bazaar.
All the artisans will want to buy my resources.
Artisan hasn't been nerfed in anyway that I can see, there has just been a balance applied that means trying to master everything yourself isn't economical something the dev's had plaaned from day one.
What is wrong with skipping the survey line in Artisan and just concentrating on the lines specific to your profession and buying resources?
The question, then, is where do artisans get their money to pay for materials? The cost to keep a harvester running is going to be substantial. Harvesters will need to buy power, or pay for the maintenence of generators. Artisans buying the minerals will need to substantially up the prices of their crappiest goods in order to pay for the supplies. So those rich blaster types will have to start shelling out lots of those credits from missions and rotting corpses.
I suppose this will work itself out eventually, but there will be a sustained period of hardship for many. Sound familiar, Republicans?
Lets see... maybe because early on artisans can't afford harvesters and the fact that there is no viable way to make money as an artisan. As a fighter I can take 2 combat missions take 15-20 minutes of my time and come out with blaster xp and about 3k of credits. As an aritsan i can't do combat missions, so i am forced to run delivery missions, which are about half the reward and cost 200 creds just to get to the location. Not to mention waiting on the shuttle for 15 minutes, oh and i want to make the trip back.
If you want resources to be sold in the market dont cut the rate at which they can be gathered, increase the harvester rate.
As far as the new action bar requirements and the 25 second wait time... I spent 3 days tweaking my stats so that mind and action bars would drain equally now that shot to hell. Now i get to spend days trying to get the bars evened out and it takes an hour to mine enough resources to make 10 items. I think that some comments on other threads are right. This is going to push alot of eople to just go be a fighter, because as it is now, if you already have enough skill/credits to run harvesters you have the market cornered, not that arisans can afford to buy resources anyway.
I don't think this change was thought out.
If you pay your maintenace fees up front, it's not as bad as everyone makes it out to be. I've got one solar collector, 3 wind, 1 mineral, 2 chem, 1 flora, and 1 factory. I have no problem making the creds to keep them up. And I've accualy been getting more power than I need, and selling the excess. Made a killing this morning, for some odd reason *sniker*
I won't set up a single harvester until it's verified that they are at least 90% bug free
What is a "starshine surprise"? What does it do?
It's a drink you can make at Domestic Arts IV. It gives you (when non-experimented) +85 strength, +85 stamina, -50 focus for about 7 minutes. I make experimented ones that give +135 strength & stamina and -39 focus for about 7.5 minutes.
With my current stats (550 quickness, 500 stamina, 600 focus and willpower) I can sample until I'm at about one-third action points, drink two Starshine Surprises and regain all of my action points with only a minor hit to my mind points, which are completely regained when the buff wears off.
Sure, you have to be at the computer (which really doesn't bother me because I also have a TV 5 feet away from me
I'm not bothered by these changes. Not one bit.
In fact, I'm kind of glad they did them.
Instead of focusing all my time and money into being an artisan, I took several levels in Marksman (primarily carbine training), and am able to do missions to support my surveying devices. It's kind of the situation where a guy is dabbling into business affairs, but is focusing on being an adventurer while he's still young.
What I think is good about this update is the fact that most people on this MMORPG are trying to do everything by themselves, and online RPGs are designed to make people interact with each other. This is another way of doing it, where you're going to have to do more interaction between other characters in order to make the money you're going to need to keep those extractors running. Plus, you'll have to be more competitive with your pricing when you make components to sell on the market.
All of the people who are saying "yay!" and giving the devs little golf claps for this nerf come across, to me anyway, like this:
"I already made all my cash when it was easy to make, and I think it's great that they've made it hard for new artisans to compete with me."
Sheesh. You could at least pretend that your glee over this isn't related to greed and selfishness.
Yes, changing harvesters so that you actually have to keep your maintenance fees up-to-date is how it should have been all along. Yes, it's unfortunate that it has to be imposed on the player base after release. Yes, it's going to make it a lot harder for new artisans to get ramped up to the point where they're competing with the people that already got their slice before the nerf.
But. It is completely ridiculous that these changes accompany an (apparent) nerf on resources which is supposedly going to make it harder to macro. I don't macro. This is going to kill me financially. Finally being able to (barely) afford a harvester only to have the resources not only change names and move, but then mysteriously become not sample-able when thedensity is >80% is IDIOTIC.
I hope that particular weirdness is just broken, and will be fixed. If not, then that's just plain stupid. And not fun. This is a game, I refuse to play something thatmakes no sense and is a pain in my butt.
Nerf one thing at a time, see how it goes. If it's not enough, nerf some more. If it's too much, roll it back a bit. Theseguys are like rabid gorillas with sledge hammers in a china shop. Break it all!See what happens!
