Thread: The Longest Grind of All
I've almost made it to Master Artisan. yeah! Only one more thing stands in my way, Surveying 4. It is taking forever. I'm not a power-gamer. I only get about 1-2 hours of playing time a day Maximum. Many days, I don't get a chance to play at all. Lately my entire gameplay session has been composed of sitting in front of my computer watching my character manually extracting over and over again.
I get about 30 XP a pop for each succesfull extraction. It takes about 20 seconds to do one. To make 10000 XP its going to take me 2 hours of straight grinding if I'm totally succesful. But I'm not am I? No, and not only that but I have to rest to build up my action pool too. So I can double my time there. In all I'm estimating my time to be about 8 hours. 8 hours of just sitting and staring. That's about an entire week for me of doing nothing but sitting and staring.
This is a long slow grind.
I've tried moving to higher concentration of resources but didn't notice an XP increase at all, only a unit extraction increase. I've tried doing the mini-missions that were put in (like pay extra 300 action to pull a higher concentration or going to the new waypoint) but neither of those increase my XP.
This is a long slow grind.
No disrespect ment, but what is the obsession people have with grinding? Is it the HolyCron Quest?
Sure I've grinded some, but 8 hours - straight?
Come on people get out in the Galaxy! See the sights! Make some allies! Make some enemies! Supply a merchant!Make an adventure out of your online life! What happens when, in 6 months you grind everything to master including Jedi? *sigh*
An of course if this is not you and you just want to get to Master Artisan and your not chasing the Holy Cron, then Congrats!

I can't imagine doing hand-sampling for a whole weekend.
However, I feel your pain. I'm grinding through getting novice bounty hunter with my other character. It feels a lot like when I ground through artisan. Thank heavens that I have a macro for getting the combat/weapons experience! (plus it will harvest for me, too)
I got Surveying IV last night using the following macro, just left it going overnight.
/sample;
/pause 7;
/sit;
/pause 17;
/stand;
/pause 7;
/ui action toolbarSlot##
replace ## with the number slot you place the macro to loop it.
This pauses you long enough to let you HAM recover before sampling again.
Just type /dump to stop the macro when you have done.
Hope this helps

If you are surveying in a "safe zone", I would suggest doing a stat migration and decrease your health statsall the way and raise your action/mind stats as much as possible. I was able to survey for hours without any breaks, except for that **edit** pop up.
I got through armorsmith and artisan without a single macro. I think more people should try this. Makes you appreciate your proffesion a lot, if you don't go insane first.
Ok I finally got the XP grinded to make master artisan. Now all I need is to get the Apprentice XP.
I go to Theed, a very populated town, searching for some potential newbies who made need some artisan training or anything else I can provide.
I come across a very helpful player who is willing to help me out. He wants to grind out most of the artisan proffession right then and there. He just needs someone to train him as he grinds it out making wind generators.
I sit there and watch him and he just was flying through the proffession. It only took him 30 - 45 minutes to master all of the domestic branch, all of the business branch, and the top half of engineering. He was even surveying while he did it all and got level 3 of surveying. He said he didn't expect me to wait around while he finished up surveying 4, (apparently I'm right about that part being a long slow grind).
Does it bother anyone that our proffession can be obtained so easily. All you need to do is just buy enough resources.
No-one said Surveying is hard, just that when you only have 2 hours per day to play on SWG then this can take a long time to master.

I'm in about the same boat as you timewise, and believe me, this is not a hard grind.
It took me three months to grind up the combat XP pistoleer required (and that's just one skill brance). CH was about two months of tame/release. And neither of these can be macro'd.
I expect Artisan to take me about a week. Remember, you can craft while you survey, too. Two birds.

Keep in mind that a starter profession must be easy. You don't want to discourage a new player with no money, noextractors... and no clue.
Things could be worse.
