Thread: So I made Glowie and...
Thanks for sharing your experience, Chaosium.

That works fine once you get to the village. And had I done this pre-CU then I could have a much lower combat level and complete the quests. But, post-CU, the village is gated by a level 75 / level 77 double spawn ambush that pops into existence very close and without warning.I can't see how anyone with a double-crafting template can get over that hurdle without logging on inside their house, and waiting for a level 80 double-elite-combat player to come and bodyguard you every moment you are out and about in the world until the ambush happens.
To me, that seems excessive.
I am guilded, and I do have guildies that have the punch to get through this. The problem is that I have to be pinned to their coattails every moment I am out of my house / NPC City because if the ambush spawns, they *will* one-shot incap me. Even if I do the solo group thing in artifically increase my combat level, my damage output is nothing compared to theirs. I won't be one-shotted, true. But it won't take much more than three or four.
My point was that, while the FS side of things was always pretty gated, it is moreso now by an order of magnitude. Before you could buff so you could survive the warren or whatever and let your friends do the fighting. With the ambush difficulty being set so high, anyone who is not a double-elite combat template is going to have a very hard time getting past this. Plus the cycle repeats every few days. Not a fun time, and I think it needs to be looked at.
Getting to the village should be tough. It should involve combat (and tough combat). The camp can be tough without gating the village so terrbily for the crafter. Because the with the Sith Shadow camp spawn, you pick the timeand know the place and can prepare/ bring reinforcements. You cannot with the ambush.
I feel your pain, but take heart. I just finished FS with Master Artisan, Master DE, Master Rifle. Mostly Pre-CU yes. But you can do six columns without fighting.
Adv. BLL chasis to grind out crafting in no time. If not them then ADFs.
Senses Tree - Merchant - slow but will get you there. Or if you dont mind tweaking the template, pick up Novice Weaponsmith, and smuggler and slice CDEF stuff in mass. This is how I finished Luck.
You can also do combat. Just have to do it in groups. If you aren't guilded I suggest you join one.
May the Force be with you.
I have a friend who is going through this EXACT same situation now. First and foremost, I can assure you that the Old Man will indeed come back. He came back that same day for my friend. Of course my friend spent that day shuttling back and forth trying to trigger him, and it worked.
Anyway, I protected him once, and same thing. He lost the crystal, got the disk, couldnt read it.
But it will work out. Give it some time, and try to get some bodyguards. I have to say I didnt think he was serious when he called for help the first time. I also remembered my first Sith Shadow encounter after the old man, and how I basically breathed on them and they fell over. LOL...they almost kicked the hell out of me when I was on protection duty. Wasnt expecting it.
One suggestion I might give you is to travel in armor, and keep parwan nutricake hotkeyed. That way if they jump you, you will have time to burstrun and call for help. Might buy you some time for reinforcements to show up.
