Well, it worked out in the end. I was zipping my on my speeder one day in Kachyro (or however it is spelled) and happened to notice some spatial spam with my name in it. Since I was zipping my on a swoop, they didn't attack. I was able to call in reinforcmenets and take them down. The camp spawn was the same - level 75/75/77, but with the help of a Jedi Knight it was not terribly difficult.

A QA has confirmed for me that this is a bug - the ambush is supposed to be scaled to your level. No idea when they might fix it.

Edit: BTW, while I was waiting for some help, the sith shadows aggro'd and killed about four or five characters as they happened to wander by.
