Thread: Vehicles should have been a luxury item.
Just like mounts, vehicles should be expensive and rare, that is why they are so much in resource cost. yes, i can make a profit at 1c/u. but what about the expense of buying a new harvester, traveling to place my harvester on other cities and planets, my travel time, death insurance when i go to my harvesters, the maintiance on my havesters, home, factory, and vendor, any resources i buy off of others, the amount i payed to get me up to MA when no one was around, the tools i had to build and buy fromarchitects, and my own vehicle maintence. What about those expenses, are they forfeit? did they just magicly appear in my bank? I worked my @ss of to get that stuff. I sweated and slaved to earn money to support myself. i lose money and energy every time i have to move my harvester when there is a resource shift. Why is it that these things are not considered? why am i called a whiner when i myself, belive my time is valuable. I have to make some sort of income. No one desirves a vehicle just because they play the game. I sweated and toiled to earn money to buy better equipment and armor and guns to support myself so that when the day came, i could make something i was proud of that would sell for a very good price. hell, with the logic all the players saying that i should sell for only 2c/u, then a ford should sell for the bloody same. for get the commision the salesmen gets, forget the factory worker that assamble the car, forget the miner who mined the metal to my car. no, they should be just fine and dandy for just making the bloody thing in the first place. Hell, why shouldn't i get a McDonalds hambuger for 10 cents. i am positive they will still make a profit right. it shouldn't cost that much to make. i should get every thing in life for cost just because i am alive. that is what swg player taught me. i deserve the right to get anything i want for what i want becuase i want it. forget you for trying to make a living and feel that your time and effort and investments mean jack squat.
i pray the devs will see the failure of artisans. we undersold ourselves for so long because all we could make didn't sell and we had way to much supply for the demand, that now when we have something everyone had dream about every night, we undersell our own worth again. we had a chance and we blew it. i honestly think that when they bring out a vehicle engineer, or whatever they call it, that they make it so you have to be up a second tier before you can craft one vehicle and the first and novice tier is just parts to make it. then maybe, the quick to get and sell out folks will be so dishearted that they quit, or all will realized that there efforts and time and investments is also something worth paying for.
i truely wanted vehicles to be something special, but all they are is cheap tinker toys to me. I was truely saddend by how we all feel cheated when someone ask for what they feel there own efforts are worth. if you don't like it, don't buy it, and never ever spam and grief. it does no good for no one and hurts us all.

P.S. I know your going to troll this one.
You're right. Cars and burgers can be sold for a hell of a lot less and the companies will still make a profit out of them. Same goes for a lot of things.
You know why they are sold for so much? Greed.Sorry for not wanting to be a greedy con-artist. I know how much it costs to run enough harvesters for long enough to make a vehicle. You can do it for less than 10K/vehicle. Are you trying to tell me that you're oh-so-valuable time and effort is worth the already extravagant prices vehicles are at? (yes, i know you think they are cheap as chips but in my opinion the going rate of 20-30K is FAR too expensive). Tack on an extra thousand credits if you want justification for running around, not ten thousand.
do you even play an artisan?? sometimes you can spend hours, im not talking 2-3 im talking 8-10 finding new spots to move your stuff to, looking for that great resorce you need. Some things take 5-10 or more parts to make. they all take time, money, You have any idea how expensive it is to run a few factorys?? Or hitting all the planets on a survey mission every few days.?? We spend tons on travel, waiting for ships, checking out the resorces.. and thats has nothing to do with the time it takes to make custom stuff, and stocking vendors just so combat classes can complain about the price of stuff. An experianced fighter can make tons of money in an hour.. One hour.. grab a mission go kill stuff.. really tough crap ive know people that macro fight.
I have a artisan, armorer, merchant,, and it is lots of work
i also have a fighter char on another server, i dont know anyone there and in just a few hours i had 50k a few wepons, some armor, meds, and a droid took me no time at all. All most makes me sick how easy it is to make money in the game running missions
Compare time for time a combat prof make tons more than any artisan out there.
The biggest issue in the game right now is the base cost of resources. Players who collect resources feel that their time and effort on average is worth about 3 credits per resource. There is nothing wrong with this. Many players feel this is too expensive, so they gather their own resources. Someone with giant harvesters and other perks is at a huge benefit to those that run smaller operations. The Wal Marts of SWG if you will. It's nothing for them to collect hundreds of thousands of resources to produce anything they want. They can afford to sell at 1cr/resource because of the huge volume they can do will more than make up for it. This of course will run out of business the small time crafter who doesn't have a giant harvester operation.
Basically if you don't gather your own resources you can't compete as an artisan because your entire profit will be given to the miner.

You read what i said but you still don't fully get it. I am not being greedy, i don't care for a large house, i don't care for 10million credits in the bank. I want to feel that i actually accomplished something in the game. I don't want to feel i have to pick up a combat profession just so i can make a few trinkits. All your arguments keep coming down to greed. Why? what is truely the definition of greed? charging 10 cred over expense cost???? I want to charge enough where i feel like i am having fun. not used and broke running missions so i can get the one item of furniture to put in my small house which i think is perfect for me. All i ask is to let me have fun with a price that lets me have fun. i don't want to feel like i have to work to have fun.
i am not being greedy, infact, i sold to my local residents vehicles at cost because they have been kind to me, so i returned the favor. i am actually still in major debt if i could taken a loan for all of it. Greed was that 12 year old whats his face that played the first two months and quite cause no one like him. Give me an argument that doesn't have the word or reference to greed and i might actually listen to ya.

I am not being greedy. why am i being accused of greed when i want to feel like i am having fun instead of a boring grind of being used. please give me an argument that has anything other than greed as to show why i should only charge at cost. i craft because i like providing a service, but in need a profit so that it feels rewarding and i can get even better equipment so i can even craft more. i hate doing missions for money, i want to do missions for fun and tame new critters. i pick pistoleer not to fun my expenses crafting but because i thought it would be fun and i like pistols. I pick ch to grind pistols so i could actually feel that i could hold my own a little and found i think it is fun too. i don't want to give up crafting becuase i use the other professions to make money. i want it to be fun and profitable.
i did give vehicles at cost to my city mates, so i am not a greedy bastored (mispelled on purpose) like the punk that played two months and quite cause no one liked him over pricing and bragging about how much he has.
i have a small house, i love it. i don't want a bigger one, i don't want a million credits, i just want to feel i get a decent price for my days work. i want to get what i honestly feel that my abilities, time, investments, and care is worth. that is all.

i sell them at five credits per resource and am doing fine. 20,30,and 40k is a fair price i think. i sold 2.5 million credits worth on opening day and am still selling into the 100k credits daily since. i am not part of a big corporation, but a small guild who sell to each other at cost so i have been able to build a nice fleet of large harvestors, and have millions of resources that i have mined myself. i would suggest maybe trying to find a small group of older players who are a little more mature and are into helping each other out.
as far as the guy who wants to tell us what we should be pricing our vehicles at, you need to maybe check out the armorsmiths and weaponsmiths who really ramp up there costs on there items. chest pieces for 65k and up on a good composite armor? 50k on a good gun? granted not all mark up that high but they have a sick history overall of overcharging and i guarantee you thats more than five credits per unit.
I have beed selling vehicles for 15k, 20k & 25k. and this seem to be a fair price.
I also give them to all of my P.A. All i need to do is cover my costs. I have also given a landspeeder to a dancer as a tip.
If you can not cover your costs whats the point in making them? you might as just drop Artisan and go and kill stuff like ever one else does. But i do injoy making stuff!
just my point of view
