Thread: Surveying XP

I searched for this answer in the help system and the boards, because frankly I am embarrased to ask. But, sigh, I can't find it.

How do I get survey xp?

I tried surveying. I have a survey tool, several of them now. I get pings and pretty circles, I get little maps and waypoints, but no xp. I did it inside and outside the city limits. I did it with my fingers crossed under the full moon. No xp.

I know it is somthing obvious but I just can't see it. Be gentle.

Once you get to the waypoint that the survey tool gives you, you need to hand sample the minerals or chemials, or what ever you were surveying for. Each time you actually collect some of the item, you get experience for it.

Keep making your way towards the highest concentration once you get to a spot of 70% or higher start Sampling and the xp will start to roll in.

You can get samples on lower concentrations, but you will get nothing very frequently which results in no experience.

If you can find any concentration of the rarer resources then getting the exp on that is worthwhile (even if its slower) because the crafters will pay well for those resources.

If you are digging out low grade stuff that nobody wants then you will get the exp but will have a ton of junk nobody wants.

I'm getting the last of Surveying 4 and doing on a 60% concentration of phrik that has a 917 overall quality. I could go and sit on that 95% concentration of steel, but its quality is low and nobody would buy that stuff.

If you dont care about making money then just go for the highest concentration of whatever you can find, the 'get sample' button is on the bottom left of the box, the survey bottom on the bottom right.

btw if you get a message saying resouce density too low yet your sat on a good deposit it probably means the resouce only appeared that day...another thing that does not make sence /sigh

What is the easiest way to get surveying experience. The most i can get at a time is 30 per dig.

Find a spot with resources at 80-90% minimum, find a surveying macro, and hit it. I too had to adjust myself with 30xp pr. dig, it takes a long time, but I dont think there's and easier way.

just found a macro for you:

/sample;
/pause 5;
/sit;
/pause 5;
/stand;
/pause 50;
/ui action toolbarSlot00;

The macro would go in action slot F1, and would go endlessly until you type /dump. Haven't tried it out yet, but it is claimed that it works.

It does work.

I just used it today. I would bump the 50 down to 25 or so though.

I hear you get more xp from sampling radioactives.

maybe.... but then you get tons of wounds as well... so your HAM bars will be black after 5 samples of radioactives... so using a miner for that is a very good idea...

oh and i don't get why you want to sit and then stand in your macro...

kneel
pause 1
sample
pause 3
sit
pause 50
repeat command

that is much easier... you don't have to sit then stand... you can of course just stand instead of sit... but i think someone said that sit command does so that the pop-up box with "special rich rescource" doesn't come....

Hey, I'm a new artisan!

Anyway, I made Survey IV in two separate nights (appx 12hrs) while I slept with the following macro. I made an alias to do it. You use a word processor (wordpad) and make your macro. Then ingame, you load it and run it. Mine went like this:

/kneel

/pause 5

/sample

/pause 400

/sit

/pause 200

Repeat.
