OK, I get the Survey and Sample idea, no problem.

But what other ways are there to gain Survey XP?

Is the Sample method the only way? I have a Sample macro and I'm doing that, but if that is the only way to get XP then it's a pretty lame arm of the Artisan tree.

It's the only way. But I'm curious as to why you think it's lame.

Why lame? Well it's just so boring. You go survey, which doesn't actually give you any XP, then it's just sit there and sample for 6 hours...

At least you're doing something with Engineering, Domestic and Business. You can change the outcome with experimentation and the like.

This is just Macro Hell to get the points, to get the badge... I like making things and experimentation, but the surveying is just a slog to get XP.

I suppose if you approach it like that it is. When I was working that tree I ran survey missions to make it more exciting.

Do they give improved XP then?

I did the macro thing for survey too. Boring! Then I discovered the survey missions. Find a bunch of 70%+ sites more than 1024m from a mission terminal, then go get missions for those sites. Each time you run out to those sites, sample them. I made a macro to dismount, survey, sample, and mount. These missions go quickly so you can collect a lot of xp, credits and resources in short period of time.

Plus, if the samples turn out to be good, plop down a harvester. It's a profitable way to do your harvester checks too.

No, Your absolutly right, the surveying skill tree is probably one of the most boring grinding and longwinded skills to obtain in the game. Yes, its nothing like grinding 33k for Novice Architect, or grinding 450k for TK Expert ( which actually is easier), but yes, its just plain boring. With the fact that everyone is trying to Master Something in the game as fast as they can, it makes us frustrated to have to sit and do one thing for hours at a time. But when that grinding experience simply means, sitting and doing, it doesnt get any worse. Grinding 175, than 250... than 350 for Combat Xp is a lot different. You actually get to do something, and if you find the right thing.. it goes really really fast.

You would think the experience for surveying would increase for the higher concentration you find, but all in all, its just something you have to do to get Surveying IV or Master Artisan. Best thing to do, is just sit the macro, and go to a friends house... do it in the morning before Class... Before you go to work.. Go out and get some fresh air and take a break from the game, just dont touch your PC for you know... 5 hours+ checking it occasionally, or not at all. You'll be happy you didnt sit there and listen to Kuushshhhh... you failed to sample the resource alsfiowngliwn (10 time in a row )

LOL, yep, that's the plan tonight and combined with camping outside Coronet I can get some Survival in to.

I'm only doing this for the badge, though I do enjoy making stuff and might hold onto Artisan for a few weeks or so.

To add onto the origional question.

While running the sample macro I often get a message stating that theres more over this way or that and i have to click the box away. While its up it seems the sampeling stops, is there a way to get rid of that?

No way to get rid of those boxes unless you actually click them. They are supposed to deter AFK macro samplers.

Didn't have this problem. Rand the macro and got loads of boxes, but they just piled on top of eacj opther and my sampling carried on.

When I came back I had to clear 30 or 40 of the things, but I got the grind done. I really do hate to grind like that. I have only had two occations where I have had to micro grind, Surveying and Survival. Fortunately I was able to combine the two.

At heart I'm a Carbineer, but I want to get the badges as well as follow by Carbineer track so I'm working through the the other careers at the same time as going through Carbineer,
