Thread: Clarification about resource shifting...

I did a search and found several different opinions about this. I had been surveying for a type of iron that I had found, but now it doesn't even show up on my survey tool as a choice - what is the cause of this? does that mean the planet I'm on (Corellia) is out of it? or do they simply shift the resources every little while so that you can't make a list of which resources are best for which jobs (which would make sense, because I couldn't find a list on the web of minerals for SWG, which I thought was pretty unbelieveable).

Thanks!

yeah, all resources regulary shift, but im a little unsure about the patterns and wether they all **edit** at once, because ive seen a shift happen over a few days. If anyone can confirm wether the shift happens slowley or whether the whole planet shifts spontaneously??

As far as I can tell, the shifts happen more or less all at the same time (not more than a few minutes apart)

By the way, I thought the shifts happen at server-down or shortly after server-up... but last Saturday, Farstar (Europa) had a shift around 2pm (that's why I know they all shift at the same time). Incidentally, 2p was when the US servers were starting to come back up from maintenance, so perhaps the Euro servers are tied in to theUS schedules.

I think initially all resources shifted more or less in sync. Now I'm seeing more variation. I think there is a randomizer that controls when a resource shifts and as time passes it becomes more likely that individual resources shift at different times. I don't really have hard evidence but the other day I placed two mineral harvesters one mining Aluminum and the other Steel. After 3 days the Aluminum was gone but the Steel continued for at least another full day (maybe longer but I had all I wanted and pulled the harvester).

Resources deffinately shift on independant schedules. Makes it interesting to be a full-time surveyor

The only sure thing I've been able to discover about shifts is that any shift for that day occurs at the server reset at approximately 0400 Pacific. If you log in at 0500-0600 Pacific, you'll be able to see if your current resources have gone bye-bye and also check to see if anything good has popped.

Each resource typically lasts 7 to 10 days. So if you're on top of it and notice a resource come into existance you know you've got at least 7 days to mine it. A few resources tend to last the full 10 days...mainly energy and fiberplast. Also, no specific resource ever repeats. It seem like the names and stats are generated randomly based on the type of material it is.

Yes, from what I have seen, the above is correct.

I have harvesters spread out pretty evenly around corellia, and all of the resources have been shifting on different schedules.

I am willing to bet that they shift by class. First Chemicals all shift, then Minerals, then Wind etc. etc. and these have different timers.

Just my 2 credits.

The seven to ten day shift seems to be good. I notice that most shifts happen on the weekend on Corellia and usually on Saturday, but I haven't been logging it.

It is upsetting to have a really good resourse of that rare item then suddnely it goes away.

It's six to ten days for minerals I believe. Back aruond the time of Launch week Q3PO posted a message about the details of resource shifting. Certain minerals will be on more planets at a time than others, some will always appear somewhere in the galaxy while other may be missing from several if not all planets for a shift or more depending on rarity. I'm not sure if the message is still around but I'm sure a careful search of the forums will at least turn up a copy of it some where.

From what I can remember though the resources are intended to shift at irregular schedules. As someone who has probably done ten times the surveying of mroe other players I can say that they are certianly alot more irregular than at launch. You could almost set your watch by it. Minerals always shifted all on the same day and all at once. New minerals coming in appeared immediately after and all at once. Now, Minerals are shifting in and out on different days, different times of the day and different planets. Neutronium steel just showed up on Corellia...I had been mining it on Lok for three days already. =)

Surveying and mining is one of the few things that has maintained my interest in this game.

the 7-10 day is a little odd too. some times the same resorces will spawn on 3 difrent days, on 3 difrent planets. then disapre on all 3 of them at the same time. i notices resorce additions happen 1-4 new ones per day(not counting bones and junk)

Organics last longer. Here is an interesting thread (note the response by VolstedGridban on page 2).
