The only sure thing I've been able to discover about shifts is that any shift for that day occurs at the server reset at approximately 0400 Pacific. If you log in at 0500-0600 Pacific, you'll be able to see if your current resources have gone bye-bye and also check to see if anything good has popped.

I don't agree. I've witnessed shifts in the middle of the afternoon; quite common on Corellia/Chilastra to see shifts Sunday afternoons (US Pacific Time).

Speaking of shifts, is it possible that they could add resource reduction as the shift comes on? For instance, in a 73% concentration, could it start degrading as the shift became imminent? I normally check my harvestors twice a session (once when I get on, once when I get off) so that I stay uptodate on resource availability and their status.
Possibly, when the resource got inside a 12 hour countdown, the resource could drop percentage availability.

Actually I don't track organics...only minerals, chemical, gas, wind and solar. I find mins, chems and gases last 7-10 days(I may have seen them disappear in 3-5 days once or twice, but that may have been sometime during the first month after launch). If I catch a good resource when it appears I'll set up a harv for 6 days. I've shut down a harv to see the mineral or whatever disappear the next morning more times than I bothered counting . Wind, solar and fiberplast typically seem to last the full 10 days with a couple exceptions here and there.

Q3PO has said they would try to find a way for us to "predict" resource shifts. I'm not sure what that means but % degradation over time of the shift seems the best way to go. It just makes sense anyway that you would be able to watch a spot dry up as it was mined..even better if the amount harvested from that spot made the mineral in that spot dry up faster.

Q3PO's statement about this was several months ago and we haven't heard anything about it since so I'm not holding my breath for any changes to the system as it exists now.

My theory is that the shifts always occur about two hours after I set my harvestors and walk away!

No it happens on the days that I cannot log in because of RL responsiblities

I've got several harvesters on Corellia (FarStar-server) and during this week one of them has been turned off almost every day because of resource-shifting, the other three harvesters has only been turned off once.

Is this meant to be? The output of that harvester is pretty low, because of all that shifting. Some days it hasn't got more than 1k units, though it's a BER6 (iirc) and the % has always been above 65-70 where it's placed.

And just to add to the general confusion... if a resource is being heavily mined, it might not last for the entire 7 days on a given planet.

I've seen resources fade after only 4 days on Corellia, but last the whole 8 on others.

Yeah, the time frame are more or less 6-10 (even 5)days per resource but some kind of resources tent to last longer than others. For example it's very rare to change the resource of a Power facility, about once each 9-10 days, but I've just seen some minerals lasting only 5 days from their initial spawn.

You can access a good list of resources and it's specs at www.swgcenter.com

The list is quite long for some resources.
