My wife’s toon is new to the crafting and mining biz. Is it suppose to be this much of a headache, I log in find out a new resource just spawned, sample it, oh this is good for making swoops, sevey for 2 hours, find a 84% spot, drop 1 heavy and 3 medium harvesters, 72 hours later it despawns. Then I go check on a 2 other harvesters I dropped the night before for a second resource I need, find out that the resource for that one shifted 2 hours after I dropped the harvesters. I am about ready to drop all of my harvesters next to my house and just harvest what ever pops up there

I'm pretty sure that the 7 days is right... I have been in the resource/mining/artisan business a long time, and they always stay a minimum of 7 days now.. I think at one point it was 5 days. But obviously there are exceptions to every rule.

There was a 5 day shift on Dantooine on my server for Class 4 liquid petro (mole as a matter of fact). I spotted it as it spawned since i was leveling artisan at the time and i was there 5 days later when it disappeared and watched it disappear.

Shifts are a good thing not a bad thing. Its part of the randomness of things and makes our lives as artisans a little more interesting because we have to keep up with it

This sometimes happens, but shifts last a minimum of 7 days. If you want to avoid the quick shift, you need better resource information. www.swgcraft.com might be useful for your galaxy. There may be other websites tracking resources for your galaxy. Worst case, get the info yourself. If you are in the flora business, for example, you can check flora on all 10 planets in about 45 minutes a day. If you are just doing minerals, it would be faster.

Shipwright resources seem to have a very long shift time, and if you aren't on top of it, well, it blows. Try putting down a harvestor on a resource that hasn't shifted in 2 weeks, it pretty much can't be done, or you have to travel about 5 Km from any shuttleport to find a place without harvestors all over it. This has made me understand why shifts are so important, longer shifts equal less chance to place a harvestor.

Resource shifts are essentially, they don't suck.

I dont follow this logic at all.. Longer means tons more will be availible from any resource dealer.. and if youar a little guy, even a few personals which can always be placed on a high % cause you can squeeze um in you can pull up 100k in that time with a friggin BER4 personal..

You dont wanna mine dont do it.. just find a good resource broker that will sell you what you need.

and ROFL WHy are you waiting 2 weeks to get on a resource you need?? and 5k from a startport to find a good spot.. god you have a vehilce it takes 5 mins. You are obvioulsy NOT a miner.. and there is nothing wrong with that.. Mining does need changes but not what you are proposing

I remember when resources had to be shifted manually by the devs on Lowca. They would last 30 days or more before the devs realized they weren't shifting and people complained.

At any rate, there is definitely not a 7 day minimum. Some rare resources spawn for3-5 days. Shipwright resources spawn for about 2 weeks. I've seen meat shifts that have lasted 5 days. The average is definitely 7 days, but sometimes there are shorter shifts than that.

Good times, good times.

/nostalgic

Anyway, yeah, different resource types shift at different times. I don't know, but I'm getting the feeling that there is some 'wiggle room' in the shift schedule, even among the same types of resources.

I don't sweat it, personally. Get what's in the ground and move on.

The duration of resources is measured internally in shifts with each shift being slightly longer than a day.

- Non-JTL Inorganics last 7 to 10 shifts.

- JTL resources last 14 to 21 shifts.

- Flora last 7 to 21 shifts.

- I don't have enough data on Creature resources, but they can last up to 21 shifts. So far I've assumed that all Organics are the same.

After Publish 10 the shift was changed from happening within a timespan of a few minutes to span most of the day. So technically a resource may last a little bit shorter than 7 days now if it entered late in the shift and disappears correspondingly early.

The only time I've seen minable resources last shorter than 7 shifts was when Tempest went live. Some of the resources started to shift out already on day 4 on the first planets. Tempest wasn't one of galaxies where the shift got 'jammed' in the first months. Those galaxies had some weird shifts during the days the developers tried to fix it though.

The secret to mining is to keep up to date with the shifts. Knowing when something spawned makes planning much easier. One important thing to keep in mind is that sites which keep track of resources don't necessarily show the spawn time. Only when it was first discovered by someone. Serious miners do their own surveying every day.
