Straight to theQ:

Is it worth it to take the Surveying tree in FS Senses to increase your surveying abilities? Or is this is largely useless grind?

If you have surveying 4, you won't see any benefit from it until you get the 4th box of FS surveying and then you'll get a 6 x 6 grid and (I think) 380m range on your survey tool.
It all comes down to whether or not that's important to you.

Yeah and it's obvious the surveying interface was never meant to have that many numbers crammed onto it because they all start overlapping.

Yup, but it's oh so nice when tracking down that vein.

It's nice but not mandatory.
It just means I get to drive a little bit farther before I ping it again.

You sure about that? I have +27 (yes i know everything caps at +25) in BE clothing but I am still at the 5x5 320m grid. Though oddly enough it shows that my survey tools are capable enough to go past that. Just doesn't have the option in the set range menu.

i know its an old thread, but to add another question ... it increases the range of scanning, but has anyone noticed if it increases the amount you can pull from the ground?

Unless it changed pst CU this is not what it does.

You get more resouces per sample based on the same scale/rate as the bonus you got from the normal levels (every 10 pts being related to what % of the spawns rating you got in resouces). It worked out at the time to 1 more resouce (and therefor more xp) for every 2 boxes that I had invested. This meant I was pulling 10-12 resources on a 90%+ spawn on average.

I was never able to "unlock" or select a larger view range at all, on any device.

Are you going to be a jedi or are you going to be an Uber Artisan?

If you're going to be a Jedi it's useless. A fully templated Jedi gains nothing from this because you must at least be a novice Artisan to be able to survey or sample.

If you're wanting to be the guy that samples those new Kashyyyk resouces spawns that we can't lay extractors down for, then it's a great boon.

For a full Jedi it's one of the most useless trees there is... the only other one as useless is the persuasion tree since a Knight is SF (persuasion helps save you during contraband scans and being forced into an overt status) all the time and you don't purchase skills from npc's any more.

Even the healing tree seems that it was possibly intended to help with the Jedi Healing, originally.

Then you're doing something wrong because I have had this skill for quite a while and I definitely get a much larger area. There are so many numbers crammed onto the screen that they overlap.
However, I didn't get this added range until I got FS survey 4, tho.
