Thread: Harvesting questions

I'm somewhat knew to this game so i apologize for the simple minded questions but i was curious about harvesting:

1) what does the percentage in the survey window pertain to? the quality of the material or the quantity?

2) I've been told that resources can have different qualities to them at different times. Is that where that unique name comes into play or can you have two varying levels of quality for carbiosic steel?

3) what defines how fast a harvester pulls material from teh ground? ive got a few set up and some pull at 1.77 and one pulls at 2.33 or something similiar. is it the quality of the harvester (if so, can you get an extraction rate above 3?) or is it the quality of the survey screen?

This is a very fun game so far btw. Thanks for any info you can provide me to help make sense of the system.

1) The amount in the survey window is the amount of that resource in the ground, it has nothing to do with the quality. The higher the number the more of the resource there is, so sampling will have a better success rate.

2) The resources qualities are defined by the unique, weird name of the resource. The type is important only for specific schematics. Generally, the higher up the trees you go the more specific the schematics the schematics will get. I.E. A novice artisan schematic will ask for metal in a certain slot, whereas something higher (such as a harvestor)will only accept steel in aslot.

3) The speed of a harvestor is defined by two things. The base extraction rate of the harvestor, and the number in the survey window. If you have a harvestor with a BE of 3, and a survey of 81% you will extract resources at 81% of your BE or 2.43. On harvestor quality, for personal extractors I believe the highest possible BE is 4, but there are higher level harvestors that can get higher BE's (the ones I have now are 10-11)but they take: more power, more maintenence, and have a bigger base so they can be more difficult to place on hills.

Hope that answers all your questions.

I have just started, and took the advice of some folk and staring starting harvesting (after days of delivery missions). I am getting good results but i have no real idea howto get a good price. Do i just offer the mineral for 1 credit a piece in lots of 1k? What if no one buys, will i have lost all my money?

I guess i was too hasty in trying it out, but the quality of the amorphous gemsis 250. I just found out that is bad. Will they sell? or should i pack up, do sum more delivery missions for maintenance money and move the harvesters?

anyhelp on any of these topics is really appreciated.

Low quality resources are bought up by people grinding through a crafting profession, so as long as you price accordingly, someone will probably buy it. Besides, not all items depend on OQ (it's completely independent of the other stats, despite its name), if it has high Shock Resistence, for example, it could be a good ingredient to a pistol barrel (a weaponsmith component). Tailors use amorphous gems in several of their jewelry creations, and since they don't get experimentation, quality doesn't really matter for that.

Ah, but how do you price accordingly? The resource market is very server specific, one thing to try is to check the bazaar for similar resources for sale there, and price around what those are going for. Or check the planetary map, on the right side is a category for "vendors", with "resources" as a sub-category of that. Check some of those shops, and maybe contact the merchants to see if they would buy the resources from you. Just so you know, I don't think I've seen any resources go for less than 2cpu (credits per unit), except radioactive sold by dedicated power brokers.

I an new to scouting and I was hoping to get some help on what to look for in hide/meat/bone/milk/eggs.

So far I have been looking on the trade forum to see what people are looking for and I go and hunt that. I also have been looking at SWGCraft.com to see what the current spawns are on my server. (Bloodfin) What I do not know is, what proffesions buy what and what are the stats that matter to them.

If anyone has a link to this information or is willing to post to help me out it would be much appreciated. I would like to go and gather resources on my own as I explore the Galaxy.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Quite easy question.

Ignore all the numbers. Screw doctors and the like, they are rich buttheads who are cheapskates. Only harvest avian or herbivore if you want to, or it sells for 100cpu.

Tatooine wool will sell to any tailor.

Naboo scaley will also sell to any tailor.

Endorian wool will sell to architects.

So much for the specialty items.

In general, find a BE grinding, sell them meat in bulk.

Tailors will also buy any hides in bulk.

Prices vary, check with other Scouts/Rangers on your server.

and watch the trade forums for your server. Some clown is offering 160cpu for Naboo avian on mine. Not even all that good.

And I have 17k of talusian herbivore, prime for Stims, just sitting and waiting for a shift to go south.

Yes, you can make tons of money, and never look at any numbers. Always always always harvest.

Try this:

Pretty good list of critter bits needed by a few professions and what's important to look at.

Also, master BEs need meat with high OQ, PE, FL ... add them up and if it's over 2200 or so, good enough (probably). If it's Dath Carnivore, you can harvest unreal amounts, so it may be a bit more flexible. Most other BE requirements are just every now and then, though recently I needed high-OQ bone and scaley hide, and eggs. It's always nice for a BE to have 400 eggs on hand, enough for a crate of myoflex if needed.

...has mastered the Pilot profession

Hello, I go to swgcraft.com to find out what's available on each planet based on the stats provided. Example: Endor carnivore meat atm is pretty good. But how do I know which critters are carnivores on Endor? I have looked on swgreatures.com but I think that is only good if you know the critters your asking about. Plus it doesn't give the type of meat they are. At least I didn't see it. Can someone dumb it down for me and tell me how to look up that info on swgcreatures. That is my biggest problem. Findiing which critters give what type of meat, bone, hide and on which planet they can be found on..

Thank you,

Diane

Also, realise that both searches may be dated. I checkedSWG once and it was out of date by two weeks. The info services are only as good as the people who update them.

After a while you will know what drops what and the oddities. Pickets have no bones. Birds on Endor drop herb meat. Only one creature on Talus drops wool hide. Torturs and tortons are cousins, but totally different on hides.

And to know what is selling, check your galaxy trade forum. Just cuz Tatooine avian is selling well doesn't mean you want to gather it tho.
