Thread: Vehicle Customization: Should it be for Master Artisans to perform or for anyone and everyone?

Hey everyone

"In our next major publish (6), we will allow Master Artisans to craft a Vehicle Customization Tool. Any player will be able to use this tool to custom hue the body and the trim of their vehicles. Simply target your vehicle (or one you have been given permission by the owner to customize) and use the tool. Each individual color customization takes a "charge" off the tool."

In the Friday Feature, it was posted that all players would have access to use the custom tool to change the colors on the body and trim of vehicles.

The design was tweaked so that Master Artisans are the only ones who can change vehicle colors. The intent is to make Master Artisans more important by having a service to provide to players. Currently, the vehicle customization instructions look like this:

fficeffice" />

Vehicle Customization Instructions:

Master Artisans can customize vehicles; they can craft vehicles and customization kits. Players should find Master Artisans and make the request. Once a player has selected a Master Artisan who will perform the customizations, players must give consent to an artisan to begin and should unconsent when the customization is complete.

l Type /consent

can now customize your vehicle colors, assuming they have that ability, tools necessary, etc.

l Type /unconsent

can no longercustomize your vehicle colors.

Some players have stated that they would prefer that all players can change the colors of their vehicle. In that instance, Master Artisans would simply make the consumable, craftable item called the "Vehicle Customization Tool" and sell it on Vendors and Bazaars.

If we do that, then there is the risk that a handful of enterprising Master Artisans can set up a factory dealand make enough for the whole market. That makes it so that few artisans benefit from the change.

We can make it one way or the other, but there is a catch. This is a one way switch. If we make it so that anyone can customize a vehicle and then artisans decide they prefer it under their control afterwards, there is no going back.

There are two basic answers here:

1. We can make it so that only Master Artisans can customize vehicles and try it out. If it works well, we keep it, if it doesnt work well, we can change it back and make it so anyone can customize a vehicle.

2. We can make it so that Master Artisans can craft the "Vehicle Customization" tool and sell it on Vendors and Bazaars so that anyone can customize a vehicle. If Master Artisans prefer it that only they can trick out and paint a vehicle, its too late. What is done is done and there is no going back.

What do the artisans have to say on this matter?

Is it what's behind door #1 or door #2?

Which do you want?

Make it something that is a tool anyone can use and then only last say...1 week. After 168 hours it's gone and you have to reapply. Each tool could have say 4 uses so once a month you buy one and there ya go. Animals kill vehicles frequently so people are always buying new ones..plus next patch we can have 3 in our datapad now so there will definitely be a market. The monopoly concern is stupid. SO what if someone makes a vendor with nothing but 600 vehicle coloring tools. Someone can always just buy one somewhere lese b/c they probably haven't heard that person has this mega vendor of all things vehicle coloring. It IS a cool ability for artisans, but it will also be a major headache. you think it's bad enough for Docs
/Musicians/Dancers always getting asked for buffs heh

I'm a Master Artisan myself and I'd like to craft paint tools. But I don't want to be bothered by hundreds of people wanting me to paint their vehicle. I craft the painting tool, I sell the painting tool, they use it.

I just recently droped Master Artisan so I could be a bit biased but i would think most artisans would like it to be any player usable because although we need a reason for being that can be accomplished by making and selling them so we dont have to also use the game play time to do the busy work of getting it looking jsut right.

Again as i recently droped master i could be a biased so thats just my 2 c

i'd rather make the paint that everyone can use instead of being everyone's artist.

Just dropped MA to move onto something else but the last thing I'd want is people pestering me to paint their bikes all the time. Let the MAs make a tool and set a time limit on how long the paint lasts so people have the need to buy new tools from time to time.

As a customer (following this topic because its important to me);

#2 - I want to be able to buy a 10 charge (say) tool and use it as and when I see fit. Traveling on Tatooine? Paint the vehicle sandy colors. Traveling on Lok? Go for reds maybe. Going on an Imperial mission? Get that speederbike in official white. Give me the chance to paint it myself and I'll get through 3 or 4 tools a week. Make it an MA ability only and I'll do it maybe once a month.

Master Artisan here, Ill take the second option. You guys dropped the ball with the Droid Customization kits.

As a Master Image Designer, I know all about consent and customers wanting coloring done. Thats image designing tho, thats a part of the profession. Artisans manufacture things... let me make the kits and let players do it themselves.

I have 5 R2 droids and they were customized for me by the DE that made them... the color is gone and im not getting them fixed again. it doesnt last, it takes a long time and i dont know what colors are available... its a pain.

Dont make the same mistake twice.

Personally I've lost 4 Speederbikes in the last week to MOBs. Which would mean 4 paint kits. So I don't think the repeat business thing would be a problem.

I like the idea of an expendable tool that allows people to customize their own vehicles. It would be nice though if you could still give concent to a player in order for them to customize the vehicle for you. I intend to give free paint jobs to by customer either way, but I'd much rather use an application of an expendable device, than have to just give them the tool (which I will do). But then again selling the tools along side of the vehicles themselevs will make excellent repeat business.
