Thread: Vehicle Customization: Should it be for Master Artisans to perform or for anyone and everyone?

Hrmm. I'm no crafter but I'd say it's in the *entire* community's best interests to make it so anyone can. Frankly, on Eclipse, it can be very hard to track down a reliable source of vehicles (thank god for Danyo and Tatoshka, located in Purgatory, Lok), and coloring them is such a gimmick that I really don't think most people will put the effort into tracking down a Master Artisan just for some crayons. Sorry, that's a combat guys input...

this is really the key. if i have to find someone to do it for me, it'll never be done. i'll leave it the default. if i can buy a tool and play with it, i'll keep buying them as my customization fades.

I would love to see charges, duration, and the # of colors as experimentable items though.

I'm with the other MA's on this one. Have it so MA's craft the kit, but anyone can use it...just like weapon repair kits; though please don't put a critical fail so that the bike comes out pink or crumbles before your eyes.

Master TKA heading to Master CH as well (ignore the sig, that was 3 professions ago)... so maybe you dont care what i have to say.

Option #2. Ill but the hell out of the kits but i wont track down an artisan to have them do it for me... its paint, not brain surgery.

Like an above post said, you dropped the ball on droid coloring, dont do it twice.

#2.

We already have a "service" to provide to other players: we craft vehicles, we craft weapon powerups, we craft repair tools, we craft.. crafting tools! We craft mini harvesters.

This change would change the face of the Artisan profession. Every other item we craft is just that, an item. We craft it, we sell it, people are happy and come back to buy more if they need 'em. Our repeat business is through items having been used up, destroyed, eaten, inserted into a droid, weapon or building.

And I can't think of any reason why it couldn't be changed back if for some bizarre reason Artisan's wanted the ability back? You let Creature Handler's give aggressive creatures to Non-CHs to start with, then revoked that.
Please explain how this situation is a one way street if we choose the option the Devs don't want?
That seems to be the only reason for that claim, "Well, if you want it that way don't expect to come crying to us later if it ain't workin' out for yas!"
Of course you can change a game mechanic later if it's just not working out. The whole dang combat system is being rejigged and you're telling us you can only go one way on this? Come on!

#2 I make the paintbrush, you use it.

I wouldn't mind #1 though, but this might detract me from using my Master Artisian tag (which I like to wear

Make it so everyone can use. I think it would be too tedious to have to seek out a Master Artisan every time my vehicle color has faded.

While there is a possible concern for people to flood the market with kits, that is much more acceptable than being flooded with tells to color people's cars. Image designers have to sit with customers far too long due to the customer wanting to try out every single option. I sure don't want to be flooded with tells nor be tied up having to come up with a "cool" look that no one else has. (Can you tell I am also a Master Tailor? lol)

I agree with the above poster about the DE colorization issues. I bought mine off a vendor and mine have never had color. Its not worth me hassling some poor DE to color my droid since all reports are the colors don't last long. However, had there been droid colorization kits, I'd gladly spend the money.

If the market gets flooded in the beginning by those cranking them out in the factory, so be it. The market will settle down after a bit. People will move on to the next hot item to jump on and the true crafters will still be here making a decent little salary for their effort.

P.S. Can you make droid colorization tools, too? *devlish grin*

Let's just try this:

1). MA's &MDE's make their customization kits, but anyone can use them.

2). Colors never fade on droids or vehicles.

3). Customizations kits are a one-use item.

As a MA on Live, I do not want to keep dozens of kits in my backpack, have to stand by the starport "coloring" for donations, or do the whole ID thing back & forth with folks. I'd much rather make these in bulk and sell them on bazaar/vendors and let the rest of the world be as fickle as they'd like.

You may balk at the "never fade" option, but honestly who's making big bucks on customizing droids anyways?

I don't think that people will care enough about vehicle customization to search out a master artisan to repaint the vehicle every time that it starts to fade. I know that I wouldn't. Many of us don't care about vehicle looks that much. However, if it's a kit that anyone can use, more people are likely to take advantage of this feature.

#2 unless the paint lasts a month on vehicles. I play on test, but I can see one of two things happening the way it is set up right now on. Either every person who is an artisan is going to get telled to death on live, with the larger populations, every 2 to 4 days(and they likely will the first day the patch goes live no matter what), or after the paint wears off 2 days later, no one is going to use the kits again except the artisans themselves on their own vehicles.

Either the time the paint lasts needs to be lengthed greatly, or everyone needs to be able to use the kits.

On a slightly different note, if these are supposed to be a master artisan perk, then why is a droid storage module required for their construction? I can certainly understand giving the DEs a boost in business, I know they could use all the help they can get, but it just seems like a conflicting message :/

I have to agree with many here...Im a master Artisan and Id rather make a product someone can buy, not have a service to sell... i get enough tells a minute as a master weaponsmith...
