Thread: Combat Upgrade Testing and Artisans
As you are no doubt aware, the Combat Upgrade beta starts any time now. Your Artisan team will be there, with bells on.
Happily, you, yes you, are invited to join us! Come to the server when it is ready and help us test out all the changes to weapons, armor, food, power ups (yes, they got a revamp!), etc.
Here is a paragraph from Okram2K about the TC CU experience:
However there will be some important things to keep in mind, TC will not be like anything you might come to expect. There will be frogs, however they will not be the usual pick any skill, get weapons and buffs, and go at it type of frogs. They will be very strictly controlled by devs to make sure testing what needs to be tested is done. Further the current plan is that as each testing phase is completed, the test center will be reset multiple times to create a new clean start for each testing phase. This will inhibit our ability to "hoard" a large sum of resources in a testing house.
Our main goal as Artisans is to:
- Make and distribute all CU Artisan goods: Weapons, Food, Armor, and Power Ups
- Make ourselves available for survey work. Resources are going to be needed ASAP and of the best quality. No swgcraft this time! So get out there and help the test with some waypoints!
- Vehicles. Not strictly CU related, but it's a service we should provide
- Subcomponents: Our friends who need Artisan-made items should find a ready supply of them.
We are also expected to coordinate with the devs and help provide focused testing on systems which needed. If they need to test Melee, pick up a sword, etc.
My in-game name will be either "Guru" or "Guruweaver" depending on if I can get in soon enough to claim "Guru"
Update
Chaosium_451, of your Artisan team, lead a group of Artisans to pull together a collection of the available resources and their stats on the CU server TC5.
Please find it here
See you there!
Guru

I see nothing in your intro there about testing life as an artisan under the new combat system.
Can someone get on (i can't right) run though and report back on the armor cert situation, noob/uncerted weps sitation and the geneneral ability to travel in the wild to do things like place harvs and manage factories without dying?
Also, how is surveying and sampling under the new special pools? Anyone going to try leveling the survey line and see if theres any impact at all?
My testing so far:
I'm Guru in game.
I was only able to get online for about 30min this morning before work. I didn't do any actual combat, I focused on Artisan things.
Observations:
- We have gotten a revamp of powerups. There are five ranged and five melee now. The bonuses of the powerups are no longer random. Each powerup has a bonus and a penaly of a fixed type. There are two experimentation lines, one for bonus and one for penalty. I've not yet been able to break them down by type, I expect that we'll see that soon. Oh, the grenade kit is still there as well.
- Bone armor is no longer in the Artisan schematic list. This makes me unhappy. I'll be making unhappy sounds about this.
- Despite what I was told, we got no new weapon schematics.
- The new HAM system and surveying/sampling: I sampled continuously (no /sit, /sample macro) for 30 min and never ran out of action or mind. In fact, they recharged completely between sample cycles.
I'm at work now, but I'll try to get on again tonight (ha!).
Take care,
Guru

Guru,
2) When bringing the tool up, many items do not show what you need until you select it and hit next when the tool wants resources.
This issue has been posted as a known issue by the Devs (listed on the known issues list from the login screen). I've also noticed that there are times when you will not see the stats of the resource you have selected in bottom left pane ofthe Item Assembly window.
Guru, is there any chance these blanked out text issues are releated to the issue where you can't see a person's name and tags beyond the first line (i.e. if someone goes AFK, you only see AFK above them when you target them, and the top 1 or 2 pixels of their name line).

They moved bone armor to an actual useful armor type, so it only makes sense that we, the AS, would get to craft it. It made sense at first for this to be an artisan assembled item, but the game is almost 2 years old and really doesn't need to be made that way anymore.
How many artisans actually made bone armor to sell?
You are propably true that it will be for the good of the bone armor to be made by AS, but it still takes a complete set of items away from another profession!
Artisan itself is supposed to be the jack of all trades but not good in anything and as far as i see the only pre AS item has been now removed...
And Yes, there were Artisan that made bone armor, these that wanted to be a a AS and just started or the onces that just didnt have the SP left for a complete crafting profession.
