I think the main thing you don't realise is that MA is the easiest and quickest profession to master.I had a new character on Farstar that I intended to take BH but since I heard vehicles were gonna take MA I spent just under 2 days sampling to get to survey 4 and just over 2 hours grinding out the other 3 trees.I had no money on the char so I knew I'd never be able to afford 30K let alone the ungodly prices some were spouting for day 1 vehicles.Try grinding CH in 2 days and see how quickly you realise that it's not gonna get you near mount on the tree. Also considering the fact that you have to grow the pet for 3 or 4 days before it's big enough for mount I don't see where you should even try to compare vehicles to mounts.

You can't really expect anyone to pay 100K for a vehicle when they can master the profession themselves for a whole lot less money than you expect to make on 1 sale. Most professions that require 1 tree in artisan as a prerequisite already have survey 4 so they can gather resources for their craft and it only takes a couple hours to grind out the other trees. THAT is the reason your plan to sell vehicles at ungodly prices was swept under the rug. Most of the MA you see running around selling vehicles this week will be back to grinding their REAL professions next week.I personally sold vehicles for 20,30,and 40K respectively and made money on the deal which will allow me to grind upArmorsmith and make some real money. Then I may go back to my plans of trying out BH.

I just can't see the reasoning behind trying to compare MA ( a basic profession) to MCH (an elite profession).Any noob with a few PERSONAL harvs can have enough resources to make quite a few vehicles in a day or 2,so it's not exactly like a CH who has spent a month or more getting to the mount command and has also spent about a week with pets growing in their datapad.

After I ran out of the resources I had harvested waiting for vehicles I even went to the bazaar and bought resources, and still made money selling at the prices I was charging.Unless you can figure a way to squeeze a bird into those enmoidian bird cages which really would be rare you better not plan on getting rich quick as a MA.Pick up an elite profession that is designed to make a lot of money such as WS,AS,or arch and go that route or stick to MA alone and prepare to work for your money.Just don't blame others that were smart enough to grind out the profession in a few hours for the fact that you didn't get rich quick.Blame yourself for expecting to get rich quick on a profession that is this pathetically easy to master.

I posted this in another thread:

BTW, I found a guy selling vehicles for a little over 1 CPU, I didnt come on the boards to complain, I made a deal with him and now he is supplying me with exclusive rights to every speeder he makes and im relling them at 300% markup and sold every one and made even more money. Dont hate the player, hate the game and find a way to deal with it.

The only Retarded Artisans are the ones who pay more than 2cpu for a resource.

Whether its 1SR or 1000SR, the cost to extract it is the same and for me that cost is .28cpu (With all costs figured in, including my time).

If you jokers would stop paying so much for resources, you'd see the price come down to a reasonable level. The only time a resource should go for more than 2cpu is if its a limited quantity of a rare "named" resource (by named, I mean that a schematic calls for that resource specifically like Axidite Iron or Vertex crystaline gemstones), and there is a bidding war on the limited supply.

I mined all of my resources. All of them. More than 500k in steel, a third of that in copper, just for this. This isn't counting the millions of units I had on hand for my armorsmithing and droid engineering....

I refuse to pay the outrageous prices people ask for resources because I KNOW HOW MUCH IT REALLY COSTS TO HARVEST THEM!

You did it to yourselves by buying the overpriced resources. Because you did that, you have to charge 5 times what I do just to turn a small profit. I sell my vehicles at 5cpu and will always sell for that price, and I am making a tremendous profit.

And because I'm not gouging my customers, they will remember me, and come back to me for the other items I can supply them with. That means I have more time to do other things than run missions to pay for my harvesters a few weeks or months down the road, because my repeat business pays for my maintenance on my shops and harvesters.

I agree with saintchuck....get off your butts and harvest your own resources. When people find they can't sell resources for outrageous prices, then maybe the prices will come down....

You know, this topic is pretty much an insulting flame-fest with very little constructive conversation. It should probably be locked.

So this is how it went:
I made my first 7 vehicles (watching my resources go to nothing...)
These were free to my buddies, who BTW already donated to the cause.
Then I ride my swoop to the harvesters that I have mining the crap out of
Corellia.... and now I have even more resources for the prized and coveted
1mill vehicle sell....
I ride to the nearest starport, Woa Doggies... **edit** **edit**, Not a single person
in site yet there are thousands of vehicles, all running and smoking making
my computer lag.... ok well I continue on, store my swoop and get my droid.
R4 has a crafting station so I yell to make vehicles on site, I find you...
My first reply was a How much? - I respond starting at 50k (thinking wow..
I can underbid and make a great sale....) WRONG. The reply was, oh I can find
one cheaper... GOOD BYE...
Well I finally found some one who would buy one for 20k, I guess that is not bad
since the city was littered with abandoned vehicles...

DEVS PLEASE READ, Make vehicles auto destruct if they are left out side for too long....
or maybe just have them auto store like the droids and pets....

I can tell by his eloquence in writing that Mod0 holds a masters in economics so I won't try to go head to head with him on financial matters any more.

However I will point out that there are still many things a creative artisian can do. Just two ideas instantly come to mind....

  1. You can team up with a DE to make high quality crafting stations

  2. You can survey for hire (and with vehicles out its easier than ever)

I myself Survey for hire. I don't advertise, all my clients come by word-of-mouth. I charge 50k to locate a good %, flat spot for one kind of resource (i.e. any kind of mineral, or any kind of gas). My fee for a specific resource varies from 75k to 100k (i.e. a certain kind of ore only). My customers are happy to have found a surveyor who does good work and dosen't rip them off. I actually get more jobs than I want to do so I could and probally should raise my price. Many of my customers go ahead and tip me an extra 10 to 20k, I guess they don't want me to retire. I know surveying for hire isn't the fastest way to make cash, but it does take no investment other than time...and after all, it is a non elite profession. The point is, it isn't chump change either. If I advertised my services and worked for multiple customers at a time I could pull down about half a million a day. Why? Because its a service thats in demand, and very few are providing it. There is lots and lots of work in demand folks. That dosen't mean the work that you want to do is going to be what pays.
I can tellthan
