Because devs figured out that training someone in Range Support1 15 times was not what they envisioned initially.
By the time you are 4444 SW, 200K is a few more minutes grinding a few chassis. I think most are glad to be doing that than trying to arrange to train someone.

Yeah, maybe for people who already have the means to burn 800K resources they'd rather build chassis than get a few apprentice points. Though admittedly, by the time I got to that point I was inured to the resource demands of the profession anyway.
Still, it's not such a boon as you suggest.

Well, since a player cannot train another player in SW skills or Pilot skills, a SW/Pilot would have a tough time getting App points without doing something like ranged support 1 over and over. On my other characters I am normally maxxed on App points because I train everyone that asks. It adds up pretty quick and I never had trouble getting the old amount before they changed it. I have Mastered most all of the professions.

The devs have done a few things differently with both SW and pilot, and I always thought it was because they wanted to try some new things. My question is, "Are the devs going to push some of these changes into other professions?

It is only true for Pilot. I trained a few Novice Shipwright by now and the App XP is the same like in any other Elite Profession. Still I do not need them, but it is nice to get them.

Not being a grinder and helping people out from time to time, I never had trouble with apprenticeship XP. It it just there.
Resources on the other hand are harder to come by...
So what is easier is a question of play style. It is not that one is easier then the other.
Anyhow, I agree that apprenticeship XP is not working the way it was supposed to. This is one of the things that looks great on the drawing board (getting people to interact, a master crafter having an apprentice, building a society), but fails utterly in practice.
Maybe this should have been obvious from the begining, but those things are always easy to judge afterwards.
So with shipwright they are trying something else. What I find remarkable, is, that there actually seem to be SW apprentice out there. While the apprenticeship XP did not work, it seems, the lack of factories did that trick.
