Thread: Free items are killing us!
They need to up the amount of items you can put in the bazaar I think that would fix most of the problems. Also add more to the "spreadsheet" so players can sort goods on quality.
Right now I am making a killing maybe its because you guys are on flooded servers. I specifically went to one of the new servers and started my artisan there, marksman/brawler is on a heavy one. 2-days of novice artisan 14,000 creds
The last 3 days of my presence in the galaxies have been breaking myback digging for metals, chemicals and other ores to autofinance my crafting operation, when finally got a good amount of raw materials to start crafting and then make several pistols, carbines and rifles. Then I realize that in my bank account only have 90 credits and I'm not being able to sell all my modified weapons because some "phylantrope" just wants to give them away.
THIS IS NOT &u)*^%$*ing fair, I have been working very hard and still very poor and see lot of other residents of corellia with thousands of credits inside their pockets but haggling for some modified weapons, I started selling my goods for around 100 crds, they make around 35-60 damage, I consider the price low but the offer is almost nonexistent.
I sold only one, the rest they where arguing about the low damage &(*&(T*%* of my weapons so I simply stopped selling them because they say they can get several of those items for free.
With pain in my heart I will destroy everything but will not give anything free, to make ONE weapon take almost 15 minutes of diging and then assembling them, no I will not participate in this.
But you see, it won't level out. Those who have ground their way to the top "win" so to speak. They'll be the ones with the huge customer bases, and they'll take the server. No one can compete with a big name, especially when they have such an experience advantage. I wish that grinding wasn't a viable method of gaining XP. =/
As for free items, all of my lower level CDEF stuff was free, because frankly, it was pretty bad. Also, two artisans nearby also gave away their gear. *shrug*
Now, I'm starting to charge. However, the playerbase is used to free. This will be a big change...
I guess I don't care if ppl give away the low level items, but what kills me is when they give away training.
Consider that you make your living selling things. Supply & Demand 101. If there's more supply than demand, prices drop. If there's more demand, the price goes up. More ppl making the same stuff= lower prices.
Why in the world would you welcome other crafters into whatever niche you're trying to fill?!?
"Hi. Let me give you novice architect so that when I go to sell someone a small house, you can undercut me and put me out of business."
I'm hoping ppl come to their senses when they hit the elite professions and clam up & start selling everything.

Because:
- We need apprenticeship XP to make Master in any profession
- People are friendly, and if we demanded pay they'd go to someone else anyway... preventing us from getting the apprenticeship XP we need.
Personally, I know exactly what you are talking about... I've been working to make weapons, armor, & clothing, selling clothes for 50c a piece, weapon price anywhere from 50-350c, depending on what i've made, just to break even. don't even get me started on the maintainence cost for my harvesters. that, and i've noticed that almost no artisans get business advanced beyond 2. any other artisan skill i needed training on, i was able to get within a short amount of time by offering to teach languages in exchange, except that one.
And for any that would raise the argument that if everything was bought through the bazaar that artisans would be raking in everyone's hard earned cash, i've got news for you. in 24 hours, just ONE mineral harvester can suck down over 2000 credits in maintaince cost. it takes anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour to gather the minerals to build another one. but the same minerals that we use to build those harvesters can easily make another 10 weapons, with powerups built in. then you also have the cost of buying minerals & such through the bazaar, (and yes, i've done just that before), or from other new players looking to make some cash selling bones & hide.
and we all know training costs money, if we can't find someone to teach.
the only other gripe i have is that we can only put 25 items up for auction ata time.
I have business 2, which says i can have a vendor, but so far, it looks like i actually need a structure in order to place a vendor. which so far, it looks like we artisans can't have unless we go architect.

Balorn, I kinda see what you're saying, but I think the apprentice system is flawed anyway. It encourages giving away training, which is helping to stifle the economy. Master anything should be based on mastery of that skill, ie, either making x number or x% of each item (clothing, food, weapon, armor, etc), NOT by grinding on powerups. How can someone be a master of making clothing if they've never made a stitch of clothing?!?
Besides, I'm only getting the Engineering & Survey trees and I've already hit my apprentice points. I've also never given training for free. Starting out, I was charging 100 CR/lvl.
Now, I'm getting 200 CR for Eng & Surv 1-3 and 2000 CR for Eng & Surv 4. When ppl want Nov. Arch. I'm going to charge them about 75% of the NPC price. I want to DISCOURAGE competition for my stuff - a good way to do that is to slow down others progress towards where I am.
Supply & demand 101. More suppliers = lower prices. Why would they buy my house for 10k if some guy I gave free training to comes in at 5k?
I have wondered about this myself. I read that we get extr xp for someone actually using our created items, therefore I find it hard to destroy them. Yes I do try to give freebies to my husband and friends, hoping in return when they get extra components that they will return the favor. Also by them allowing me to create any items I have the ability to create for skill ups. I have only been playing for 3 days now, and I have almost 10k credits in the bank /shrug. I have been buying bones/hides from the bazaar as cheap as I can, making bone armor and putting it up for instant sale. There is rarely any armor posted on Tarquinas in the bazaar so I can average 5-6 k in a short time as profit.
