Thread: artisans whine about not making money? Want harv certs? Try selling something....

Have to say I find it utterly crazy to even THINK about something as plainly stupid as certing harvs. I'll give you 4 reasons why it is so stupid straight off :-
Doc
Medic
Combat Medic
Bio Engineer
All those, especially the 3 elite proffessions, have heavy SP expenditure and it is nigh on impossible to contemplate taking Artisan as well. Yes my BE has to use an artisan to find the spots ( which if it wasn't my second account I'd have to PAY for ) where I can plant my harvs. I also can't use survey droids (rightly) myself, get rid of artisan in one of those proffesions and the crafting side get's plenty hard enough without some stupid certing.
I did some math for you on these professions and their ability to take on Novice Artisan with Surveying IV:
Master Medic/Master Doctor required 140 SP leaving 110 SP to be spent. With the addition of Novice Artisan and Surveying IV, this left me with 81 SP to spend. So, what would I want to be? I figured Novice Brawler, Unarmed IV, Teras Kasi Novice, Master Balance Conditioning, Master Power Techniques, Master Precision Striking. I neglected the Meditation branch because, frankly, with Master Doctor, it's a waste of SP. I can cure my own diseases/poisons/states, plus I can buff my self, so no need for Powerboost. All this and I still have 4 SP to glare at. Not bad.... You can plant harvesters AND defend yourself at the same time. Not to mention earn money running destroy missions plus buffing for profit. Heck, you could even sell back abranch in TKAand pick up Novice Scout to be totally self-sufficient.
Master Combat Medic required 169 SP leaving only 81 SP. Daunting. Tack on the addional 29 SP to get Novice Artisan and Surveying IV, now I'm left with just 52 SP. Ok, now let's look at the requirements for Combat Medic: Master Medic and Novice Marksman with Ranged Support IV. I've already spent 15 SP on Novice Marksman, might as well pick a profession off of that. Let's go with that's currently powerful:Rifleman. Ok, so up to Rifles Specialist. Now I have just 38 SP left. Novice Rifleman 32 SP. That's still enough to be 4/0/0/4. Master Sniping Accuracy and Master Rifle Special Abilities. All the speed and accuracy you could want unless you were Master Rifleman. Oh, and like the previous breakdown, I still have 4 SP left to glare at. ![]()
Master Bio-Engineer required the least SP,just 121, leaving me with a whopping 129 SP to spend. Ok, so Novice Artisan and Surveying IV again, right? With 29 SP cost that leaves me with... hang on, let me get my calculator... *beep* *beep* *boop* *smacks forhead* Duh, 100. Well, this makes life simple. Want to make money on destroy missions? Want to be practically ANYTHING you want? How about Master TKA? Still have 8 SP left, how about Master Rifleman? Same thing. Master Fencer? You bet! You could chose any Elite combat profession and be it. Now you can use all the harvesters. Now you can do any destroy mission you want.
Thanks for using the word "THINK". You've inspired me to point how much you haven't been.
The arguement is thatMedium and Heavy harvestersshould at least require an effort and expenditure of SP.

BE NEEDS maxxed out max scent, in fact preferably master scout but we can do with 4/0/4/0, in order to operate effectivly - ever tried going up close and personal with a Rancor without it ,). Having decent pistoleer or melee defence skills is handy to give us a chance of suriviving as is taking up some of the medic skills. Granted BE on face value has the lightest SP requirement of them but trust me when you actually look under the hood you can eat those with ease just having a viable character. Master pistoleer, MBE, 4/0/4/0 scout gives 23 points left. Points BEST used in medic or dropping some pistoleer to get master scout for improved survivability with mask scent. Granted we can squeeze in artisan but to get the most out of BE the best we can do is novice to at least allow us to survey.
Doc - taking your example let's go 0/4/4/4 TKA, Master Doc. Then we need novice scout to allow us to harvest etc. that leaves 18 points. Probably best used in scout (mask scent or improved harvesting) or maybe novice artisan.
In all cases artisans can make money from their survey line by being able to find decent resource patches quicker than a novice artisan (or non artisan) especially with the new survey droids. Now having said that I wouldn't be averse to the survey line harvest boosts giving a 'slicing' ability to harvesters. So whilst everyone can use all harvesters, artisans can use them slightly more effectivly.
BTW Folks...
I sold over 1.3 million credits worth of Artisan goods this last weekend. I'd say Master Artisan is doing pretty good personally.
