the fundamental problem is PvP -- there is nothing to achieve in a game built to narrate a Civil War

until they provide meaning and a sense of fun to why people play, SWG is a UO2 and "social experiment"

still amazes me Sony got LucasArts to pay for all the design tools and new ideas for EQ2 with SWG. Hopefully the licensing gets them back.

Some may say this is a rant but I feel it is necessary to point it out regardless of how obvious it is. When this game first came out some 2 years ago, I was so excited that I could barely contain myself at the thought of playing an Online Star Wars game. I just always wanted to don storm trooper armor and fight on the side of the empire.

While playing the game at this point, I was able to play in large-scale organized battles by using the player battlefields. Jedi were going to be the stuff of legend and to actually see one in the game was going to be a site that one would always remember. Space combat had not yet been implemented and traveling via pet or speeder was finally brought to the live servers. For the most part players were happy with the way the GCW was being ran. Yes, there were problems in the game but things seemed to be progressing on a good note.

Fast-forward 2 years to see how things have actually progressed. The Galactic Civil War is almost a forgotten relic, Jedi are about as common as gubbers and the glory of battle is the stuff of history.

Since almost nobody overtly participates in the GCW anymore. The only viable PVP solution is to hunt Jedi. So I did what any player does that enjoys PVP would do. I grinded out a bounty hunter and started hunting. I killed probably 20 Jedi over the last two months and was killed a handful of times. After a while I came to the realization that it was a fruitless effort. Since the GCW is pointless and hunting Jedi does not accomplish anything but to increase the size of my bank account, I decided it is time to move on and quit this pointless game.

Of all of the online games I have ever played, this by far is the worst. This was not always the case though. It seems as if the producers to this game have been running it the way they have simply to squeeze it for every penny. It is apparent that the game itself is meaningless to them and that the content placed within does not matter as long as the bucks are rolling in. Proof of this is evident in the fact that over 50% of the server populations are now Jedi. Jedi were supposed to be a rarity and to spot one was going to be a show in itself.

I am all for Jedi being in this game but the level we see them is just terrible. This is not a knock against the Jedi players as this isn’t there fault. They are simply playing something that is easily available to play and to try something that they will enjoy. However I would also like to point out that in the Star Wars universe at this time, there are very few Jedi. Most are dead and the ones that live hide from the Empire. Sony has invented their own unique Star Wars universe that is total out of sync with what was portrayed in the original books and movies. If you disagree with me on this then maybe you should read the books several more times or better yet. Watch the movies a few times. Notice that all of the storm troopers and rebels are carrying guns and not light sabers!

As a loyal Star Wars fan I would like to say that Sony has failed to deliver a game that accurately portrays the Star Wars universe in the way the George Lucas envisioned it. I know that by writing this, nothing will change. But if enough players realize that this is not Star Wars at all but rather Sony’s attempt to milk the Star Wars title for all it is worth. Perhaps then some good changes will go into affect. Maybe the GCW will be playable again. Perhaps Jedi will become rare. Or maybe this game will become more Star Wars like! I have my doubts that anything like this will ever happen. What I see is a bleak future for this game. Jedi populations will rise even higher and players that do not want to become a Jedi will start quitting the game until there are very few regular players left.

I would propose this to SOE. Create a single server that Jedi are not possible to play on. See what happens. I am guaranteeing that there would be an enormous exodus of players on other servers to this Non-Jedi server. I will also bet that this server would probably be one the most if not the most densely populated server. I know that SOE would never take up my offer as they have said before that they will never create specialized servers.

I can only hope that some day another company will take up a game similar to this and will try to stay true to the Star Wars stories. I fear that SOE will never change the way this game is being ran. I will check up from time to time to see how this game is proceeding but from the looks of it, I will most likely never play this game again. To all the players I fought with or against, this is goodbye. I hope that you enjoy this game more than I did. You may see me again if some drastic changes are made to the design and ideas that run this game. Until that day…. Farewell.

Note to SWG Producers: You have NOT been true to your word on more than one occasion. I hope that you get what you deserver and players realize that this game is a farce and start quitting on a massive scale. Maybe then a better company will take the reigns. Or perhaps you will have learned from your mistakes?

on Kett, I'd guess theres no more than 10-20% of people are jedi.

While I encounter more than I used too, I still find that most people I encounter are not jedi. Like if theres a group of 40 people outside theed starport, one or two might have a saber, not 20 of them.

If its not fun, stop playing. But don't try and paint the game worse than it is.

SOE also ruined Infantry, which made it no longer able to play in a zone as a noob. You see everyone else around you with 20100012 stats, and you have none, and to get far fast, you need to kill. Killing spiders and pirates don't cut it.

I quit SWG right before JTL, because my computer could not handle it. Seeing all the commercials now, and having a new computer, I thought it would be better and funner. Tell you the truth, this is the second worst game with most complaints I have seen. If they took a majority vote on what should be done, it would be way better, but as you said, it is ALL for the money. They do not realize that if they make the game better, funner, and such.. a lot of the vets would come back leaving them with more money. I run around the first day and saw a Jedi, and was like whoa. I congratted him, and through the next door, there were 5 more. Are all the jedi's meeting? No, SOE made a mistake by openning it for everyone. It would be neat to remove all JEDI's as of now, and have like, 5 voted into the place. 5 or 10, not over abundant, but not impossible to see. There should be votes, such as you all vote me in, and I am offered a place as a Jedi. I could accept/reject it, and if rejected there was another vote held. Then once things progress, rarely have a vote. When voted yes, you still have to do the badge idea, but you just cannot join one day, and say you want to do them.

You should be voted in, and when you accept, you do the things needed to be done, and accomplish to be a Jedi.

No, i can say i won 70% of the 200k bounties i took.

But there is a HUGE increase in skill between the padawans and knights.

I think their should be skills involved with the grind, but if they can AFK all the way there...

i just dont agree with that
