I'm actually quite suprised at how much I'm enjoying the artisan tree. I started the game about 4 or 5 days after release and my first choice was a brawler. After having trouble logging in to my galaxy the following day I tried a less populated server and decided on an artisan. He's got some Marksman/Scout thrown in so he's not "pure", but I realize once I reach higher levels I can always dump them. After trying my hand at crafting a few items I took a look at the bazaar. What a mess! I quickly realized 2 things: 1) People's pricing for items are WAY overpriced on there 2) The game is still new so eventually 3000 for an unimproved CDEF weapon will be a thing of the past. I did a few missions for cash, crafted myself some apparel and traveled around a bit( Theed looks awesome). After site seeing, I settled into a rythm of crafting while I survey. Found some other artisans to chat with when surveying one day and exchanged tips and hints. Figured out crafting stations and made a few items for the bazaar which sold quickly( my tip, if you want cash, use instant instead of auction-people want it NOW). Without grinding on the same item for exp, it's now a week later and I'm already Master Artisan!( Man I love vacations). I would have been dismayed as I've played lots of games where once people reach the higher levels they become bored and leave in droves but seeing the EXP requirements for higher tiers, I don't think this will be a problem. Attaining Master Artisan might have been quick for me but mastering Tailor will take me a while, and that's fine with me. I'm now tackling harvester maintenance, have some great repeat business and am longing for the days when I won't have to travel the galaxy selling my wares but have a store that people will actually want to come to ^_^. As for competition, I still keep in touch with that group of artisans I happened to run into while surveying one day. One has become a full blown scout that is happy to have a customer for all his hide. One finally found crafting to boring and has become a fulltime brawler. Another also found it boring and is now going up the Entertainer tree while she still kicks butt in the field. The last is my only competition, as he to wants to become a Tailor eventually, but that's fine with me. Already I'm seeing people leaving the artisan tree in droves for whatever reason. All that matters is I'm enjoying it for now. Now if only I could figure out how to be a Jedi ^_^. ---A Wanderhome Artisan's Tale

this is how i do it:
pick up some scout skills, marksmen skills (i use a pistol) and medic skills.
(dont worry about using all your skill points, you can always give up the skills and put them in other places later.)

do destroy missions with animals. kill, harvest, rinse and repeate.
(you will get lots of bone and hide for crafting)

now that you have some cash invest in a wind harvester. do some missions and pay some mantiance.

got wind? good. buy another extracter (i sugjest chem for fiberplast) do some missions and pay some mantiance.

make sure you have a few days payed up. then go colloect your stuff. save some for crafting, but put most of it up on the bazzar.

as you can afford it, add more haversters. and soon you will no longer have to do missions for cash (just for bone and hide)

took me about a week and a half (at least 1 hour a day) to get things set up to this point.
