Thread: For AFK Macroers EULA Interpretation 101
I lied about the cliff notes.
Actually, I had cliff notes, and decided that while trying to be funny I was failing miserably at it, so I yanked em.
So, how many people have been warned or kicked out of the game for AFK macro-sampling? Or for "distributing" a macro? Where are the Official messages from the Devs or CSRs stating that your interpretation of the EULA is correct? Why, if macro sampling is so evil, does the /sample command exist in the first place?
Your argument serves no useful purpose.
That's how I feel. I understand Bushwa's arguement and the EULA does back his arguement up. However, whatever isstated in the EULA is irrelevant if SOE is just going to sit on their hands and not take any sort of action against people that are "violating" the EULA. This wouldn't be an issue if SOE was punishing people for afk macro sampling. I know they can't expect the CSRs to catch everybody, but if they made an example out of one or two people that would get the message across to the rest of us that SOE says it is wrong, and they are prepared to dish out warnings, or suspend people or whatever. That would get most people to stop I think. Since they aren't doing that however, my interpretation on the whole fiasco is SOE just doesn't care all that much. They feel that it is an annoyance that they are going to try to curb with a patch. If they were really concerned that this was a huge issue, I'm sure we'd see some official SOE posts barking about EULA violation, rolling heads, etc.

This arguement is riduculous... if it were a macro running around killing things and the like thats one thing... macros for sampling resources simply issue a sit command and a sample command after a specified pause.
Let me pose this question to bushwa... do you have a problem with me making a macro which has my character shout out an advertisement for my store every 3 mins outside of the fact that it may be annoying for spam purposes? According to bushwa, such unattended play is illegal. Boggles me that people have a problem with a person turning themself into a portable extractor. Why does anyone give a **edit** if a person choses to use their playtime to have their character sit and sample away? It's not an exploit. No one is profitting in exp or cash unfairly are they?

For the umpteenth time - they are not my rules. They are SOE's. You agreed to follow them, keep your wordor don't - just be aware of the consequences.
If you make your "advertising macro" and it loops (i.e. allows unnattended game play)- you have violated the EULA. If you leave your "bot" logged in 24/7 for a month (assuming you could) even doing nothing at all, then SOE might decide that you are putting an inappropriate burden on thier servers and warn you not to do it.
This isn't rocket science folks, nor is it a matter of opinion or a personal preference. It'ssimply the rules of the game you are playing.

When you need the 21K XP grind up to any real crafting profession, you're going to want 10 lots full of Harvesters picking up resources for you daily. As a Master Weaponsmith (hell, even as a Novice), if I relied on afk-macro sampling to get my resources, I wouldn't be able to pull up the resources needed to make all the weapons I have to sell. When you look at the piddly amount of resources you can pull up overnight, you don't want to keep your computer on, sucking up electricity for 10+ hours just to get them. I'd rather save a few bucks off my electricity bill. (Of course, a lot of the people here don't PAY bills...hence, why this debate continues)
Let the afk-macro sampling discussion die out. It only benefits the newbs that are still pre-Eng. 3.
However...I would like to say that Sony doesn't owe anyone a concession...if you don't like the game, stop **edit**ing playing it.
I love it when people have no other valid argument or just can't accept that people think different, that they resort to "Well you guys that continue arguing are just little kids who don’t pay the bills. [Insert additional whine here]".
You make me laugh. Thanks I needed that. Btw if its such a non-issue to you, why bother making a post about it? Oh I forgot, you're an.. err -wanna-be- "adult" who pays the bills. Whoop-de-do for you.
