Thread: Best Macro for Surveying!!!

So what about the people that actually are on for 18 hours straight? A guy I know on the server has said he went for 33 hours straight before disconnecting and would have probably stayed on longer if it wasn't for some instability problems. Do they see this as too much use? As is SOE is already charging more per month for this game than most online games do and there are many times which you cannot play due to upgrades or the server being down. Until most of the bugs get worked out, I really don't see a huge problem macroing while you are not normally playing.

The problem is that hand sampling is going to be nerfed into non-existance. I've already accepted it's going to happen, I just don't want to hear all of the whining and crying when it does happen. You were warned by Holo. You were warned by me.

The EULA just means if they feel the need to cancel someones account, they are basically justified in doing it.

This is basically correct. MMO Game EULA's are designed to give them the right to cancel your account for pretty much any reason they can make up. If you do anything they don't like, they can cancel and ban you. The key of course is that they won't do this willy nilly because if the players see arbitrary bannings they will be less likely to keep playing for fear of losing all the "work" they put into their character.

Luckily there are very few things you can do that will get you banned without a second chance.

Perhaps a solution to Macro Surveying isn't that far away. I was thinking it may be possible to require the surveyor to eat/drink something occasionaly in order to keep surveying. Maybe something along those lines will help eliviate people from abusing macro surveying and encourage the construction of harvesters. I originally posted this not knowing it was against the user agreement.

Would you mind telling me what is the number in the macro means? I mean 390 seconds or what?

Thanks.

The number after pause is how many seconds the macro pauses until moving on to the next line in the macro.

Hey Bushwa do youwork for SOE's legal department? It seems you have so much advice as to how to interpret the EULA. There is always going to be debate on a topic, and a little grey area, when they are combined in the same paragraph. (Just look at the US Constitition and the Second Amendment big grey of confusion there.) Since the paragraph is about reverse engineering and using third party software, then the macroing would also be related to the use of third party software. Since there hasn't been any indication by any OFFICIAL SOE representative that AFK MACRO Sampling is a bannable offense, especially considering all the activity and discussion on this topic, then currently it is safe as long as you are only using the ingame system. Give SOE time, eventually they will get the hint and remove the ability to disable the auto AFK and then implement a system which disconnects a character which is AFK for a certain period of time. Once they do that, then the AFK macro sampling beyond the in game limits will be by use of an exploit or by third party software or external device and then become a bannable offense.

As for the bandwidth/cost arguement, well I pay the same rate as everone else and there is absolutely nothing in the EULA which limits the amount of hours I can "play" per month. This is an UNLIMITED usage by a monthly fee based system. As AOL, GEnie, Prodigy, Compuserve and the pay by the hour games have found out, the current user-base will not pay by the hour, but they will be online for extended periods of time. They pay by the hour ideas fell flat.

Nope, I'm not anybodys lawyer - I'm a programmer/DBA type. My original point was to make sure everyone understood the risk they are taking running these "never ending loop" macros - and that is the risk of losing your account.

As you can tell by the wording in the EULA, it doesn't matter how "you" or "I" interpret anything at all - the "interpretation" of the rules is completely up to SOE to decide if you are in violation (as it always has been for all these types of services).

EULAs are not really intended to educate the user about the proper way to use the software if they were, they wouldn't be written in a tiny font and in unintellible legalese - they would be written in simple easy to understand English.

EULAs are expressly written to cover SOE's backside if anyone ever contests thier decision to cancel thier account.

/stand;

/sample;

/pause 390;

/sit;

/pause 210;

/ui action toolbarSlot8

Does this still work? This is exactly how I put it in, and I have it in F thus slot8, and it will go through 1 cycle an dnot repeat. Is the (ui action toolbarSlot8) typed correctly? no other spaces, colons, caps? Thanks! This game makes you do minotinus time consuming stuff! If only we had a script that would craft say muzzles all night for you in practise mode il your resources were gone, then this gmae would e fun, you could wake up excited to see how much xp you got, and play to get the resources.

By slot8, you do mean it's under F9, right? The index starts at 0.

Yeah that'd be so fun, you'd have 2 million novice tailors running around and the market would be full of crappy muzzles. I sure hope they instigate Macro Crafting! </sarcasm>
