Thread: Proposed change to harvesters for 8/20 takes all the challenge and risk out of mining.

I like this change. I see your point about the mini-game, but running around to find a new spot after a shift is the main game. I don't really mind either way since I check my harvestors daily. It's nice to know that if we accidently added 7k of power instead of 700, that it won't be wasted if there's a shift the next day.

I just hope this change doen't go one step further to allow for remote deposits of power and maintenance. I love the idea of being able to remotely view the status of my harvestors, but we should still have to run out to each harvestor to maintain it.

I have to agree somewhat with Exed here. While on one side I like the idea of not wasting credits and power when I move something however I also feel it does make it too easy now. I'd have rather seen a compermise in the middle where a random percentange of power and credits rolled over. This still places a little risk but gives some reward as well.

I for one have left my harvesters in place since i first placed them. I get good concentrations some time, bad on others. That's the way life goes, you take the good with the bad. Heck I finally got a house up and placed it next to my harvs. I for one won't move my harvs even though it will be virtually free. It will be a huge clusterf*ck getting high concentrations of resources now because everyone will move to that one spot. I've been able to make money off of what I pull up, and I run missions for fun.

I grind some, but I don't make it the only thing I do in this game. It wouldn't be any fun then. I keep a few thousand resources around for when I want to grind, and sell the rest. Even at 3 credits each I often log back in to see about 10k credits more in the bank then when I logged out.

I for one won't move. I guess I'm just to sedintary.

This is the best fix since launch just about in my opinion. The cost to redeed is still there, so you still lose the 3000cr for a medium every time you want to move it.

Losing the complete drain on a battery in a device because you want to move it is stupid and unrealistic, but I suppose they could come up with some justification. But losing money that you prepaid on a maintenance contract? Unheard of! Whoever is running that scam would immediately be put out of business by a competitor who offered rollover of the contract cost.

And not being able to withdraw the money and wind you accidentally overpaid is not a "challenge" it's a "bug" or maybe "crappy design". At least we've got a middle ground here where you can't take it back out, but at least it's not completely lost.

Just so you know I played with this today,,, Ill use the med harvesters,,I moved it It said you needed 3k to redeed it, I placed 3100 credits into it. I redeeded it and placed it down a gain,, when I went to the status part it only had 100 credits, and all the power seemed to be there.

So with this you still get boned with the initial cost to redeed it

CerionSky
Thanks for the constructive criticizm Waho....I'll put your comment "that's stupid" right up there with Gaadzooks!! And you needn't remind me how to mine. I was teaching people how to mine before you were building your type 18 firework. I rarely use small harvesters anymore. Mediums and Heavy.

The system before involved speculation in a very innovative way. It involved risk and challenge. I haven't heard one way or the other whether the system before was intended or not. That fact is irrelevent. The result was a challenging mini-game that many people enjoyed.

The people who despise the resource system are a select group of crafters--mainly the ones who do not want to be dependant on anyone (probably against schematic revocation too, but that's another topic).

I realize my voice is just a small one. No one listened to miners in beta, why should they listen now? But I love the profession, and I'm gonna put up the best fight I can.

Whoa, ya know what: I think yer right! You took a verrrrrrry unrealistic game event (resource shifts) and made it a gamble (and yeah, Wahoo, it was a gamble). Really cool.
As for miners: I think you should have a profession to yerselfs, with more lots available than any of us others (including crafters) but only as you climb the skill tree!

Wahoo - ya did kinda come off close to assinine by sayin somethin like "majority>you". WTH? stop spammin the /gloat attack! Cerion found somethin Cerion enjoyed (god forbid!) making an unrealistic thing cool and now you wanna throw that in her face! (or his, hard to tell on fish!) Jeez...what were you like the last time yer fun got nerfed? Peachy plum cheezed, I'd bet.

That being said:
But not allowing us to get maintainence creds back is pretty silly, they're used as they're used. If they aren't used yet, we should be allowed to get em back. Hell, I'd rather see droids used for maintainence anyway.

The original mini-game (or problem) is based on the fact that resources shift, tho. It just doesn't make sense to me! Mines are not depleted this quickly, New miners should have to scout far, far away (sorry) to find a new unmined patch and set down harvs. Avoid indigenous creatures, negotiate with hostile natives...that sorta thing.
I say get rid of resource shifts period!

heh.
That should get me flamed.

So, what the devs are working to remove is the "drudge" of running around to check your harvesters. Your really gonna hate the changes they are talking about to allow remote payment of power/credits/check status of harvesters

I was really looking fwd to having a vehicle to cruize out to my harvesters with. Now I have far less interest in vehicles.

The money/power for redeeding I think is fair, I really don't like the remote management of harversters. But, I'm willing to accept that the vast majority of players do want those and not whine about it.

Yeah know what...Alot of that whining was from artisans!
I'm an artisan!
Do I have to lean/depend on anyone but my customers? No.

EASY DOES NOT EQUAL FUN

If the dev's give in to ALL this wheye-eye-eyening SWG will be one screen:

Click 'yes' to become jedi and save galaxy.
Click 'cancel' to go back to launchpad.

remote management is wrong, but so is maintainence fees. Have miners go out there with structural repair kits, is what I sez. Brave the wild, fix yer harvs, come home with 100k units of steel in yer jacket pocket.
That seems right to me.
(except for that last bit, but that's another story)

Oh, and, Jas, that was really cool seeing a correspondent reply with a personal opinion!

I can't say I've seen that too often. Alright, J!

The "challenge and risk" to mining are the hordes of deranged squalls, Corbal bandits, Garyn's Vigos, and other 'red dots' with hus aggro ranges that seem to think Merriak Mining Harvesters are *the* place to party. That is more than risk enough for me, thank you -- I got fragged three times last night trying to get to my ditanium steel.

And since I do the harvester run daily, I'm not sure how this change affects me, except to benefit me when I put power and money in and then FORGET TO TURN IT ON BECAUSE I'M A MORON.

Why can't droids do this sort of thing for me? Seriously. Isn't that the sort of thing droids DO? A power droid (Gonk! Gonk!) could carry power to each of my harvesters. Some sort of cargo droid could carry my ore back to me.

Hehe, I was so proud the other night to find a decent vein of Titanium Aluminum, dropped a personal harvester (couldn't place the medium) and powered/credited it up...came back the next day all happy and disovered...I forgot to turn it on!!!! ARRGHHH!!!!

This was a no brainer if you ask me. It makes harvesters actualy usable by casual players who can't guarantee that they can log on every single day. Next chance I get i'm gunna go put down a buncha harvesters with my secondary character who is a weaponsmith. I only play that character every few days, so I couldn't use harvesters untill now
