Thread: The danger of AFK macroing.
Celera,
You are a troll and a liar.
You admit that the only point you are making is that I am irritating, so what if I am. I am polite enough not to give my opinion of you in a public forum.
If you cannot dispute my argument with facts - shut up.
I challenge you to defend your "she's made the same reference in other threads" by showing a link to one of these references by me. I'll save you some time, not once have I made that argument. But it appears that you are not dissuaded from your mindset by anything as concrete as facts.
This issue is important because EVERY artisan will be hurt by another sampling nerf. I started a new thread, because I am not arguing that you will be banned, that this is an exploit or against the EULA- only that this behavior is inviting a huge NERF, and we either need to change the behavior or prepare for the nerf.
If you want to call my disgust with the prospect of an across the board nerf ofsampling a Crusade, fine. At least I attempt to back up what I say with facts, not lies.

Some SIMPLE fixes have been proposed innumerable times to the AFK Macro problem, but they remain ignored in favour of kludgey fixes that harm no one except the casual gamer, who is now MORE compelled to AFK Macro just to keep up
In summary, to break AFK Macro:
Survey Events that require confirmations to continue surveying. Equipment failures. Unexpected 'subterranean gas explosions'. Things that knock you into positions that could break sample macros that rely on /stand commands to perpetuate.
So. Very. Easy.
Yet instead they kludge. They extend the time on sampling, shattering things for casual players while macroers simply shrug and keep macroing because THEY ARE ALREADY AFK. 30 seconds makes no more difference than 8 for them.
For me, with limited time in the day to play, I now Macro Sample using the in game sample macros. Never did before, but now with 30 second delays, I have to in order to get the quantities of materials I need to make simple things that people need from time to time while my 8 Harvesters pound away at whatever resources I need for mass production.
For example. Before, when I wanted to make a batch of Droid Batteries, I'd sample while waiting for a shuttle or while crafting bigger items. I'd get enough resources to cover me until I could make a round of my harvesters.
Now? It takes an hour of sampling as opposed to the 10-15 minutes it took me before (10 minutes usually covered in my waits for the shuttle). What possible incentive do I, a person with limited time to play online, have NOT to macro AFK? None. I can only get to my harvesters once every two days (and have no problem with this aspect), but if I want to cover needed goods in those two days (Powerups, Droid Batteries, Food), I have to Macro sample whereas before I would simply sample in the few minutes of downtime I'd experience in the course of regular play.
Reduce time back to 8 seconds.
Introdcue Macro Breaking Surveying events.
AFK Surveying problem solved.

I just do not understand some of you. I am not on a personal mission to harass AFK macroers, I am trying to explain why I believe that it's abuse will negatively impact ALL future artisans.
Go ahead, macro away, butnot one of you had bettergripe when hand sampling is killed.
As for me, I'm fine. I'm past the point where I need to hand sample anything, I can make the heavy harvesters, and I have cash to burn in them. It amazes me that the same folks who want this discussion to end so the board can be free to 'help' people with their questions have absolutely no problem with abusing something that will make life for new artisans very painful in the future. But that's OK, it's not going to negatively impact you either, because you'll be past that point before the nerf too.
