Thread: Focused Discussion for the week 10/12/03 Bazaar
Perhaps players could craft special regional or planetary bazars. You can buy stuff no matter who put it on sale as long as you are willing to wait and pay a little more for some NPC delivery.
Right now on Intrepid we have the "Underground Parcel Service" which is setup to fill exactly this need.
Increase the 25 max cap based on merchant skill or some other skill.
Ability to filter on a specific city <- although that would be fixed if selecting entire planet and sorting by location actually sorted all pages instead of just one page.
If a city/region has less than n items display an all button so you don't have to look at every category to see that there are 15 items on the local bazaar.

Kwee's bazaar wish list:
- Paper scrollgraphic for use as an advertisement.
- Special advertising section in bazaar, requiring Business IV or Advertising in Novice Merchant.
- Fix premium sales so that they show up on the first page. The star doesn't serve any purpose in my mind.
- Put skirts in their own categories.
- Abolish miscellaneous as a categoryfor clothing altogether, categorize all items.
- Allow tailors to bundle clothing into an outfit for sale, with each item still counting against the 25.
Great discussion idea, thank you ![]()
Lots of good ideas from folks on this issue. I agree fully with the ideas about searching, Premium sales *, Misc catagory bottleneck, factory crates in thesame catagoriesand the insane unpredictability of Next Page / Previous Page.
While I like the idea of avoiding skipping retireving locally purchased items very much, there is obviously a problem with them implementing that. If you could automatically retrieve local items from the bizarre, then by extension you could automatically retrieve local items from vendors. It would resolve so many other issues that there must be some reason it is not already programed that way.
If an item search is not possible, what about just making the columns on/off sort instead of momentary sort? This way you could click on "Item" and see the items alphabetized, then click "Price" and see the items alphabetized and sorted by cost....
I like the bizarre. I made my first merchant fortune selling Lok wheat on the bizarre in late July. With my shop being so far out in the wilds of Talus the Aa'kuan's have to ask directions, I quickly became a bizarre-centered merchant. Travel to the major 3 planets on round trips became a daily occurance, and the bizarre became the major source of information about pricing and popularity of all manner of items. Someone pointed out the "time remaining" column was not of much use to them. That is a huge clue to popularity & pricing to me, and probably other merchants as well. Even with more profitable mall vendors now, we still use the bizarre to suppliment our income and keep an idea of the spot market for resources. On a good weekend my wife and I can make an additional 300K playing the bizarre market.
What I don't like about the bizarre is that most of my artisan items are either so inexpensive or commonplacethey cannot be sold profitabley there, so confusing that cratesof potentially profitable itmes can't be found by many normal buyers,or so expensive I would lose money staying under the 3K cap.
All of the below was posted in a thread on the SWG Discussion just moving it here.

I have a few complaints about the way this is. First, being Locked containers that have been failed and people placing them in Bazaar, what should be done is upon a Failure it should be given a new name to let people know that this container is worthless or it could be destroyed either way keep them out of the Bazaar, I'm sure many slicers know why I'm saying this as the locked containers are really hard to come by, when you find one in the bazaar you pick it up for 3k and its useless and you have to destroy it, this is not fair to anyone.
Second, the cap on the bazaar should be lifted, as there are alot of people that have stuff in their inventorys, that they refuse to get rid of for 3k mainly because you paid 10k+ for it, for people that didn't go the merchant rought of the game this is a real pain... and should not be forced to run around shouting that they have a item for sale, the bazaar is for everyone and should of never had a price cap placed on it
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I just hate to have to give up some of my killing skills so that I can sell my stuff that I bought from others at a price of 10k +. Ok answer this, If they don't up the bazaar prices guess what is going to happen... People like me that have all these items that we bought for 10k+ will be selling them in the bazaar for 3k just to get the stuff out of our inventory. Seems to me that would be a worry for merchants too, when people upgrade, they will just throw them up in the Bazaar for 3k, and people will stop going on that long run to their out of the way shop. Thats just me though, if they keep the cap at 3k I think in the long run it will hurt the merchants.
Oh, well it was just a thought ... Although I see in the very near future people will be getting super deals in the bazaar, I also see Merchants being very upset that their wears are not selling.
All these have been mentioned. But these are the big ones for me.
1. Search Feature.
2. Shipping to location of purchase. Charge for it and make it take like24hours(swg time).
3. No color for non premium auctions.
4. Remember column sizes.
5. More detailed categories.
6. When a purchase is done locally allow item to go directly to inventory. If its shipped it should have to be retrieved.
Premium auctions deliver the goods to the purchaser.
That would be a good reason to pay for a premium auction (as a convience to the buyer). Soon all buyers would look across the whole galaxy for premium auctions first, THEN resort to the regular ones.
ps. I /vote for increasing max bid amount, but understand why they do not want to (to force player interaction instead of dealing with the bazaar terminal all the time). With high enough max'es on the bazaar nobody would ever visit vendors which would invalidate a LOT of skill features.
I hate the mods for Business 1 & 2. I think the idea of charging people to come into my shop is daft and I'm very unimpressed with premium auctions
How about: Business 1 = +5 more selling slots on the Bazaar
and
Business 2 = +1000 greater max sale price (so 4K credits)
It would improve the Bazaar and the Business line
Maybe Merchants could getadjustments to their skills along the same line - they get one that reduces the 20 cred placement fee which seems a bit of a waste of a skill box for a big-wheeler
It does mean no more Merchant exp from people goin into someone's house and paying a credit but let's be honest
- almost no one sets an entry fee
- the main use of entry fees is as an exploit to power-level Merchant exp
You should be able to sort by Item Type. People can name their stuff whatever they want, but there should be an unchangeable Item Type that lists it as (Ribbed Shirt) or whatever so that I don't have to wade through people's wacky trademarks.
The columns should be resizeable, i can't read the full titles of the items anyway, so if people put their trademark at the beginning of the item name I can't see it.
Why not allow Master Artisans or some other class to actually make Bazaar terminals? That way, you could put one in your shop or house and not have to hump it into town from your factory to list something. This is something you'll need when Player Cities come in.
They are resizeable, it's just awkward to click the right place to do it. I like the idea of sorting by true item type. Remember a few patches ago when if someone renamed the item, you couldn't tell what it was except by the picture? At least now it says "Variation of: CDEF Carbine" or whatever the true item type is.

I'm a little wary of the idea of raising the selling price across the board
We want to improve the game experience for committed crafters not CH/BHs who take Survey 1 and use their 25 slots to sell resources, no?
I would suggest that Business 1 & Business 2 be re-vamped into Bazaar related skills
Business 1 could be 5 extra slots and Business 2 could be +1000 cred limit
If this causes data problems then I would suggest decreasing the base amount that non-artisans have.
(I also think that further progress on these two should be added into the Merchant class)
I think that Access Fees and Premium Sales can just go completely. They are useless (except access fees as a thing to exploit for Merchant exp if you're being truly cheesy)
More categories would be great.
A quantities column is essential. It is really tedious to see Herbivore Meat (Trundwhowegwukuide) 17 truncated down to Herbivore Meat (T
and have no idea at first glance whether it is worth 3000 creds or not
Categories that aren't used should go: Armour power ups, buildings, data, etc
We shouldn't get spam e-mails when we buy something. I really like being notified when I sell something but if I buy 20 lots of power it's not necessary to send me 20 e-mails. If someone buys it and forgets to claim it they can check Available Items at any bazaar
I think that the Bazaar should be developed a bit more as a genuine outlet. I think that the original idea was that Merchants would deal with everything above 3K. Well the merchants would do fine if the Bazaar got a bit busier, in fact I think that they would do better in a livelier economy. The real economic issue is that many people don't spend their money
Premium really should be premium, I pay 100 credits for a sale that should be top of the list with other premiums, and its not. You can change the page and it doesn't change, the premium sales are not there. IF there are more than 5 pages of items, and 33% are premium, then the first 2 pages should be premium sales regardless of how they got sorted. In fact, the list should automatically sort by premium before it does anything else, so the user can't change that. We paid for it, we ought to get it. Otherwise, turf it and move on.
Also, about colorization. Only merchants should be able to do this. It should be IMPOSSIBLE for non merchants to make their generic ads more eye catching, unless you want to start charging them for it, and charging A LOT. Colors are VERY eye catching when the entire screen is blue, or yellow, or whatever your GUI is.
Should be able to place a vendor list in a city, in the bazaar as an optional key to press, for alternative places to buy things.
Make it possible to bring up a list that shows the avg price of an item on the bazaar, as well as highest and lowest, overall. For that category. It would make it easier to market to ppl if they could actually see that your stuff really is the cheapest out there.
Raise the amount I can charge. Merchants really should have the advantage in this realm. Should be able to charge what they want, and have it stay there longer. Keeping it to one week is really just a way of forcing ppl to log on every week minimum. What if I have a LIFE that requires me to actually go elsewhere for weeks at a time? Its bad enough that harvesters and such get nuked for resource changes and maintenance costs, but the bazaar sale should be a stagnant item that sticks until it sells. Even if it takes forever, or at least until I cancel it or delete the character.
