Thread: Focused Discussion for the week 10/12/03 Bazaar
1) Bazaar terminals should be for depositing and retieving only. I should have access to browsing and bidding at all times through my datapad
2) Premium auctions are a joke. I ignore that column entirely. In fact, it annoys me because it's another column I have to reduce to see the information I'm really interested in
3) Better sorting by multiple fields and across multiple pages. For instance, when I look at the 'Generic Item' catagory galaxy wide, looking for locked containers, for instance, I should be able to search THE ENTIRE CATAGORY alphabetically, so then I can look at only the locked containers. As it is, I can only sort that page, so I still have to look at every page, then sort that page, to see the items I'm interested in.
4) Don't let me bid again when I'm the high bidder; and confirm for me when I'm the high bidder. I just bid against myself on an auction AGAIN, and up'ed my own high bid, dang it!
5) Advanced searching. If I'm only interested in seeing clothing attachments for carbine aiming with bonuses of +3 or above (as an example) I'd like to be able to filter my search by those parameters.
6) Do NOT remove or raise the 3K cap! Doing so would let anyone become a full-fledged merchant without spending the points or incurring the expenses. But, do not let people post auctions for 3K that can never be bid on. There needs to be a warning when posting all auctions (as opposed to intstant sales) that the auction will cap at 3K. I know that, because I use the bazaar every day, but many people aren't bazaar-oholics like me and aren't aware.
7) Shipping! I know that there are server/database issues why they didn't want to do this, but it just makes too much sense. How useful would eBay be if I had to buy a plane ticket to Montana every time I bought a beeny baby or some such. the transfer doesn't have to be instantaneous - let it happen overnight during the reset. And charge me a reasonable shipping charge as a money sink.
8) Allow me to give permission to somebody else to retrieve my item for me. Then we would have 'player missions' for newer, poorer players to earn cash. (Shipping is still a better idea, but...)
9) place items immediately into my inventory when they're located in the same region (or don't let me close out of bazaar with unretrieved items without a warning message). Yeah...I've had to travel half way back across the galaxy too.
10) I'd like to be able to sort recource containers by cost/unit.
11) Aubru's idea above "I'd love to be able to pay for "market research". For some sizable number of credits, I could find what sold best in the last day, what inquiries are being made on a given category, what the last 15 items sold on that terminal were, etc. Perhaps this could be a feature of the "merchant" skill."
12) The equivalent of eBay's notify service...when a new auction is posted that meets my pre-set parameters, I get an e-mail. I think Aubru requested something similar to this also.
13) 'Want Ads' for player missions, services offered, etc.
14) Deeper, more specific branches
In addition, allowing characters to have settings for what columns to display in what sizes and orders would be nice--as long as these settings are saved. This makes resizing of the most important columns less of an issue, and allows for more interesting columns (like price per unit) to be added for people who want that info. Myself, I generally buy and sell resources, and I'm interested in resource type, price, quantity, price per unit, and where to pick it up. That's about it. Item type (inorganic mineral, for example) is rather irritating, since I already know that part. Days left also doesn't impress me much--I rarely buy things that are on auction.
Finally, a better way to deal with sorting would be... nice. Having each page sorted independently isn't really very helpful, regardless of what I'm trying to do. If I'm sorting by name, I'm trying to find all resources of a given type (which means that I really want a more selective filter). If I'm sorting by price, well, seeing prices arranged on each page independently is pretty useless.
I'm okay with having to travel to pick items up--it makes the economy a bit interesting. If I could pay a transport fee to get it delivered, though, I'd probably do that. Even if it would take as many "shuttle flights" to get to me or even more. I rarely buy from worlds that I'm not on, because it's too painful to hit every location. With better transportation and filtering options, I'd do that much more often.
ASHRID wrote:I dont like the new condensed font layout, you cant see the full item name - it would be more bearable if you could resize the columns
You can resize the columns. The resize control is hidden but is between the column titles.
I wish it would remember the settings though.
Also is anyone else annoyed that the item you purchased doesn't just show up in your inventory? I don't know how many times I've been halfway home when I realize that I never retrieved the items.
Searching would be really nice..... and searching by a PRODUCT name not the creator assigned name.
-Columndisplay width. Im sick of resizing premium only large enough for the *, bid smaller for the 3000 cap, enlongating the name column.
- categories... fix the categories... there is obviously already a very object oriented category system implemented... applying it to the bazaar would be easy enough.
This is all I can post, because other than looking for skill enhancing attachments, i dont use the bazaar for much, itdoes not havemuchutility for me.
Not sure how this will go down but.....
Prevent the sale of 'junk' (i.e. anything the junk dealer will buy) on the bazaar - no one in their right mind will buy it, please save us the agro of having to wade through it all (and it will save on database space.
Instead if anyone tries to list 'junk' on the bazaar have the system tell them they need to sell this at a junk dealer.
A possible solution: since they are Junk Dealers maybe they could be used to buy/sell Junk items only. That would get the itemsoff the Bazaar and possibly get people to actually visit the Dealers.
The bazaar should include items on player vendors, for purchase. The client would still need to walk to the store to retrive, but they should be able to buy from Planet/galaxy level on any bazaar.
* Premium auction should be premium. Why am I paying 5x the normal listing amount? They need to stick to the top and/or be the only colorized auctions.
* Sorting need to be fixed. Lots of clothing under Misc. instead of correct heading.
* Additional listings per skill box under Merchant (or a new Skill Tree: Vendor). Not everyone wants to open a shop. I know I don't *have* to, but I will have to to sell high cost items. I would have no problems paying extra listing costs for any slots over 25.
What do I like? The fact that they are social centers. You can almost always find someone at one. Good for on-the-spot business.
Increase the maximum price on the bazaar. It sucks that when I become a Weaponsmith I will only be able to sell high-priced items by hawking unless I go up the Business line.
I can't afford to go up the business line, I need my skill points for other things.

Unfortunately, in SWG, crafter != merchant.
Youshould use a reseller; sell your items at wholesale to a personwho hasa vendor, let them sell them off for a profit. Guarantees you'll havea buyer, even at a slight discount, and saves you the trouble of hawking your items. That's the only way to do it if you're not willing to spend the points to have your own vendor.
Bug-fixes, simple changes:
- The next/previous paging mechanism does not work was one would expect. I don't know what logic is being used to select which items show up on each page, but it makes no sense at all the way it is now. Here is what I mean: suppose the bazaar had 20 items starting with A, 20 starting with B, 20 starting with C and so on and that it displays 20 items per page. Now if I choose sort by name, what i expect to see is all of the 'A's on page one, 'B's on page 2 and so on. What we actually get now is some of each on every page - makes no sense whatsoever. You have to step through every single page to make sure you have seen all of a given item.
- Simple fix: remember my column size/sort order settings.I hate having to resize/resort columns every time I use the bazaar.
- List factory crates in same section as the item they contain.
- Get rid of premium until you have resources to implement something useful - the way works right now is insultingly stupid.
- Auto-retrieve items purchased at the site listed - god I hate running away from the terminal only to get 1000m away before I realize I forgot to retrieve the items.
- Dump the "Auction" option or get rid of the 3k cap on auctions.
New functionality:
- Breakup/collapse some of the categories. Some items, such as smuggler tools, tend to get lost because they aren't classified like everything else. The whole item class system needs to be looked at acrosss the board.
- Add ability to select specific planets and cities, not just entire galaxy/this planet.
- Add a keyword search function.
- Show item stats in the list or implement some sort of quick preview window so we don't have to double on every single item.
- search function for Bazaar sounds useful.
- allow one-time fee for an ad lasting, say, 5-7 days; categorized ad listings of same
- delivery option for small %.. a small portion of which can go to seller!
- better/more detailed categories.. some of the names make little sense to me.
- allow personal vendors to display at least the planetary bazaar listings! [but don't include actual bazaar access, perhaps make it for admins only]Many times I am loading vendor items and having no idea what the going price is. Being able to at least check local prices would be a huge help.
- Make Premium Sales actually useful.. I still have no idea why anyone would bother using them.
