Thread: Podracing...where is it?
Having the races held literally "underground" would reduce stress on the system and lower rendering requirements. Perhaps one open area where the grandstands are would be nice and then I read above about track cameras. I'd really like to see this happen.
Where parts for these vehicles are concerned I think it would be a good idea if smugglers were able to get their hands on illegal equipment used to supe up existing parts.
All of this goes well with the modular vehicle notes Ive been reading about. Id love to see it!
Excellent idea, lets keep it up top!
underground can work.
but if the courses were on a separate world map that you would load into it would accomplish the same right?
and /bump!
Yeah like Kessel and Malastare. Do we even have those 3-eyed guys? I dont even know lol! I like the thought of introducing the new races, maybe even yoda's race eventually? I forgot what they're called.
What is vehicle control IV and what does it do? Never heard of it.
The three eyed race is called the Gran, no we don't have them yet. You can chose em when making vendors though.
Yoda's race will never be released, or so says George Lucas.......
Vehicular Control is a leg of the Enhanced Senses ( I think its in senses, might be in reflexes ) of Force Sensitive......
good point about Anakin being the only human to ever be able to podrace.
that's an interesting idea about having to get vehicular control 4 to be able to podrace... it make sense, but it would lock many players out of the ability to race, unless like you said, they made a playable species which could race...
perhaps they could choose a couple of the exsisting species as well. Twi'leks are naturally semi-force sensative according to some sources, maybe at least 2 of the exsisting species and add two more? i'd like to see Gran made as a playable species, Dug would be hard to do since their physiology (is that the right word?) is completely different from most humanoid species.
i actually don't think it's a bad idea to have it so not just anyone could race, that would allow it to become something special, and you would see more spectators showing up to the races (especially if they included betting) then Podracer would become a newunofficial "profession" ![]()

Anakin was the only human to ever podrace, I suspect by the time they met him he was already force sensitive and probably had some blocks if not all in vehicle control.
So that is probably the main reason it hasn't been visited.

As far as mostspecies not being able to podrace, I was under the impression that had more to do with reflexes and the ability to control the vehicle adeptly at such high speeds. Obviously, size was a concern, much like horse jockeys. The smaller the racer, the faster the pod can go.
However, since podracing was outlawed by the Empire, it makes sense that, like most technology of the era (EP4-6) pods would be suffering from a lack of ingenious design and may even be hampered by the backslide in tech felt around the galaxy. As a result, pods would be slower to some extent and less agile. This allows most, if not all, species to engage in podracing and while still fast, curbs stress on the system that such insanely high speed renderings wouldcreate.
What does everyone think?
and guess what?
part of the newbie missions is to go speak with the mayor of Mos Eisley.
he tells you about the history of Mos Eisley, and part of what he tells you is that since Podracing was outlawed, Mos Espa's success as a city began to decline, allowing Mos Eisley to grow more successful in its place.
so i doubt we'll ever see podracing.
seems like only Jedi have the power to take a wrecking ball to continuity.
i just don't understand why Swoop racing is lawful, while Podracing isn't. it's basically the same idea, except that Podracing would be more fun and dynamic and interesting.

Humans engage in swoop racing while almost always it was aliens that engaged in podracing. In the Empire's attempts to break the will of all alien species they outlawed podracing.
Just a guess, I dont have anything to back it up.
I'm not saying that i was doing either of these things, but it just goes to show that SOE is more like the empire with oppression and not helping people with what they want than anything else...

Actually isn't swoop racing prohibited too? I could have sworn it was.
