I thin SPAM is fine

I do not however agree with
spatial flooding
AFK macroing
or spatial pollution

use auction channel
use a timer that is chat windowfriendly
keep is short and simple
{what andwhere at is plenty, if it cannot be said in 3 lines, under 50 words..hush up }
do not shout or yell, say keeps it for people near you
and keep yourself from lag zone, do not camp the starport,
go sit on bench near bazaar terminal, where people are looking to shop
be there to answer emails or tells to define what you are advertising
AND if you insist on being AFK, flag yourself as such,so the filter can ignore you.

in that case, I would suggest getting a friend to make a few LS crafting tool with info about your shop on it, then putting them on you vendor and/or the bazaar. there are enough methods of advertisement that spamming is simply not justified.

a DE can make a barker droid...i believe some level of merchant is required. i forget the exact level of merchant, however.

well its possible to make a macro that does both spatial and the auction channel simultaneously

two, the fact that there are barker droids suggests that the mere act of spamming is an accepted method of advertising since thats what the droids will do, so long as it does not fall faster than 30 seconds. i /addignore those with shorter spam intervals than this or for excessively long spam messages.

and lastly, although many will put you on ignore for doing it, in my experience, it actually works. sales are noticeably higher on those rare occassions when i do this, regardless of the day of the week. many others will say the same. untilan equally or moreeffective method is added to the game, this will likely continue.

"two, the fact that there are barker droids suggests that the mere act of spamming is an accepted method of advertising "

Accepted by whom? I don't accept it. Period.

By your logic, things that are in the game are "accepted." SOE also "accepts" that there should be no species/gender changes, and yet not everyone agrees with that. They "accept" that it's ok to have some typos. Um, kind of tacky, if you ask me. It's also "accepted" that for some reason, while moving up the survey tree, you get less xp for an amazing success than for a regular one. I'd call that broken.

Just because something is allowed or already in the game doesn't make it "acceptable." You've heard from how many people who have just told you that it's unacceptable to them. Why are you trying to argue? It's not your call to make for everyone else.

He was just arguing that some level of spamming is acceptable to the devs. They intentionally put spambots in the game so that high level merchants could spam some. The other stuff you mentioned are mostly unintended. The difference between spambots and afk spammers though, is that spambots are limited in what they can do (60 second repeat, limited message length), are a crafted item, and require merchant 4-0-0-0 to use. They also break every time the merchant uses Jump to Lightspeed to travel (this may be unintended too - we're not sure. They aren't willing to fix it though). Afk spammers are not only exceeding the spam that a high level merchant is allowed to do, but they don't even have to have any skills or items to do it. At least they can be /addignore'd...

Thus sayeth Dimear

i am saying it is accepted by SOE...if it were not, there would be mass bannings of people in front of starports. i don't see that happening. do you?

sofrom that, i conclude, thatit is accepted in that it does not break the rules. the only time you get a warning is for people who break the 30 second limit.

unacceptable to players is irrelevant to my point. in fact, i warned about the consequences of other players attitudes towards spamming. you don't find it acceptable? fabulous, you can feel that way if you want. i don't care. feel free to use /addignore. thats what its there for.

i make no effort to make your mind up for you. i am simply pointing out how the system currently functions. until there are other options, then there will be spammers. that is all.

That suggests that it is ok for droids but in no way does it suggest that it is ok for players.

But then again, I am a droid engineer so I suppose I am a little biased.

staying with the OP's questions...not the ethical debate of spam.

The only way to get more lots is to work out deals with other players either on your server or cross-server swaps. Have them place the structure and give you admin rights. The level at which you trust this system is up to you..

Merchant 4xxx is required to use the barker droid...which really sucks knowing that people invest skill points to get this ability, then the devs turn around and let everybody do this without using any skill points.
