So that's why my harvesters keep breaking down. I'm so glad this whole "pay maintenance in advance" is well documented in the manual. Now I only have to find that paragraph.

Oh yeah the Manual, even the strategy guide does not mention very detail-ed how to do these.

Dont put _too much_ maint (and power if not a generator) into an installation though!

If the resource shifts (i.e. moves) which it will every 5-8 days and you want to move (re-deed) the installation you will lose any excess maint/power you have put into it. Although you will need to be 'in the black' on maint payments by a certain amount to be able to re-deed.

Re-deeding is 3k for generators (which is too expensive, you may as well destroy it and buy a new one) and 1.5k IIRC for harvesters (which is acceptable)

What I often do is check what other high yield resources are on that same spot and usually end up harvesting them (especially if they are of the same catagory) instead of moving it.

Who cares about the manual? First thing I did when I placed a harvester was look at all of the radial dial options. It was pretty clear to me from the status option that I needed to put money into it up front (the maintenance timer had 0 days remaining).

Not exactly sure you mean

Here, help me out

Condition: 68% - (3180 CR to repair)

Maint Pool:0

Maint Rate: 30

And from Operate:

Spec Rate: 5KG/H

??

First, it's going to take the 3000+ credits to get it operational again (I'd rather just start with a new harvester if that's the case) then you need to add EXTRA to keep the maintenace up. It will not run if it needs ANY repairs. It stops harvesting right away.

My suggestion would be to set up your wind generator 1 day and put maintenance. Then on the next day, empty the hopper and build a flora harvester (or any of them) and insert both maintenance AND power.

Then, select the resource and turn your harvester on.

1 day later you'll have a decent amount of materials.

You might want to watch your maintenance on wind generators especially closely. Someone started a thread a day or so ago talking about 'losing' maintenance credits. I watched mine and saw the same thing. Put in enough for 2 days and 2 hours of maintenance (over and above the 100%) - checked it a day later and only had about an hour left...

Me me me! It was my thread. Please, everyone, pay attention to your harvester maintenance pool--if it seems like things are disappering, it's not your imagination. Make a note of exactly what happened, when and where and /bug it. We really need to get this fixed, harvesters are expensive enough already!

Heh - yes, it was Bucky's thread. And thanks for bringing it back from the 2nd page... Hopefully if enough of us start tracking our maintenance, they'll be able to track this bug down quickly.

I just placed a personal mineral harvester and put in 1500 cr maintenance and it looks like 1 day 9 hrs. Can I assume that is real time and not the shortened day in the game? Is that the time until it drops below 100% or the time it will take to drop to 0%?

I also put in the 500 units of solar power and it reads 0:9... Can I assume that is 9 hrs of power?

I watched the thing for about 5 minutes and got only 2 units on a 70-ish% peak. Is that normal? I understand personal harvesters are slower -- just unattended -- but I really have no idea what to expect.

For my wind harvestors I always put in as much as I possibly can. On my latest on I have put 8000cr in it because I also have 4 other extractors and they always need power. If you get a wind extractor that wants over 1,000cr to repair it is generally cheaper to just get a new one.
